@HermioneWeasley - I gave my eldest 'actual medicine' when he was teething and it didn't make a blind bit of difference! Health visitors suggested giving him Medised! Like others have said when a baby is teething so badly you will try anything... I tried the teething powders and it actually gave him some relief. So I understand the urge to try anything!

GlmPmum · 16/02/2021 20:25

Baltic Amber. My DS now almost two has had an anklet on since 6 weeks old. I've no idea how they work but they do. Weve never I genuinely mean it, had no problems with teething, no screaming the house down in insufferable pain etc, the only niggle we've ever had is dribbling and that's it.

Not woo at all just thought it was worth a pop and its worked!

No wonder mlm works if this is the intelligence level of some who have kids. Scary.

mayonegg · 16/02/2021 20:28

Real amber is insanely expensive - the vast majority of these will be some kind or resin made to look like amber beads. You can tell if it's real amber if it glows blue under UV light. Most of the amber beads on the market don't - as I found out when I bought some 'baltic amber ' beads for myself to make something.

@LookingForSalt

Believe it, happens all the time, lots of happy, beautiful children. Not all of us are as paranoid as you.

Makes me shudder that people like you are so judgmental. But there we have it.

I'm paranoid for not wanting a child to sleep with a choking hazard? Fine call me paranoid. Confused
Tianatiers · 16/02/2021 20:29

@Eckhart

A question for those saying they don't work, how do you know? If they didn't work on your kids, that doesn't mean they don't work on anybody's, does it? Or have you something else that you're basing your opinion on?

I don't have an opinion either way, but I'm curious as to how people sound so sure.

They didn't work for my DD2, I tried everything as she suffered so much with teething pain, but the only thing that worked was calpol. Wearing the necklace made absolutely no difference. My DD1 didn't suffer half as much, I didn't try a teething necklace on her because there was no need, teething granules, gel and calpol did the trick, and I didn't like the necklaces, thought they were pointless and dangerous (which shows how desperate I must had been with my DD2 to succumb to buying one) but if DD1 had worn one I might have thought it was working, whereas actually it was just that she didn't suffer as badly with teething pain. I'd be interested to know whether anyone has actually put one on a child who is really suffering with teething pain and found that the pain just went.
KatharinaRosalie · 16/02/2021 20:29

how do you know it 'worked' if your child never had any troubles with teething in the first place? Maybe they just didn't have any trouble?

Same4Walls · 16/02/2021 20:30

Indeed. I appreciate that some people believe anything and try anything when faced with a teething baby but surely when presented with the facts they must see that their is no substance to them working other than anecdotal evidence.
youvegottenminuteslynn · 16/02/2021 20:31

@LookingForSalt

AaronPurr they don't choke. Wore them to bed and everything, same at nursery
Surely letting a baby sleep in a necklace is a particularly risky risk when it comes to suffocation?

That's great, I would have loved one of those babies. Absolutely zero to do with the amber anklet though.

You do know that not all babies suffer with teething? My dd didn’t suffer with hers at all- no amber anklet in sight. You can’t take the fact that yours didn’t suffer as a sign that the anklet worked.

DappledThings · 16/02/2021 20:32

Same here, no amber involved. Some children are just lucky and don't have issues with teething. If I'd put an amber necklace on either of mine early on I could have believed the magic amber made them sail through getting teeth.

UndertheCedartree · 16/02/2021 20:33

@birdglasspen - that's interesting and makes sense. But I have to say with my first particularly he was such a calm baby and a good sleeper that it was a real shock when at 4 months he literally became inconsolable for a week....had no idea what was going on. His first tooth appeared and he went back to his usual calm self! This repeated with every tooth until a year old. It is a bit of a mystery! Calpol didn't help but strangely the teething powders were the only thing that seemed to give some relief.

oakleaffy · 16/02/2021 20:33

An 18 month old child In California was strangled to death by one of these amber necklaces while sleeping. His mother was gifted it from an internet site that was sued.
The child looked so sweet.. his mother is naturally heartbroken.
No necklaces, bracelets or other risky thing is a good idea for a young child.

If someone insists on using one, have several “
Fuses” built in so the necklace gives way and snaps under slight pressure .

No child should die for woo woo.

GlmPmum · 16/02/2021 20:33

Whether it was the bracelet or not don't care, weve had no problems and he's a happy lad. No harm done to him or me.

UndertheCedartree · 16/02/2021 20:35

@DappledThings - I think that is the strange thing - some babies have no problems at all but some really suffer.

Okokokbear · 16/02/2021 20:37

I've never seen this before. I've seen mum's wearing the rubbery ones but not these.

Same here.. DS and brothers had no probs at all with teething.. apart from flushed cheeks and drooling.. but they smiled on through. It could be the magic pyjamas they wore?

Well hopefully he's old enough that he's survived the strangulation risk that has killed other babies. Clearly lucky
GlmPmum · 16/02/2021 20:42

It was the magic spell I put upon him as flew in on my broom! Who cares really what other people do or don't do with there own children? Each to there own, what xy and z do doesn't effect my life.

underneaththeash · 16/02/2021 20:42

Chakaras are of importance when it comes to teething. LO need to comfort of both containment and enchantment to fill their lives, before they can completely overcome the discomfort of teething.

Amber - as a colour; also enhances the feeling of well-being.
Spiritually and mentally.

underneaththeash · 16/02/2021 20:43

Calpol helps too Smile

You seriously don't give a shit if people are doing (unnecessary) things which may seriously harm or kill their child?Confused
