Getting so fed up of neighbours. Anyone else?

NC'd, in case my neighbours happen to spot me on here (unlikely, but you never know!)

I am getting increasingly sick of my neighbours. Probably because I'm (like most of us) home pretty much all the time at the moment.

They have a couple of children who are normally pretty well behaved as far as I'm aware. But they are so so noisy and have a dog too that barks consistently.

They have had visitors over pretty much all the way through each lockdown - before I am accused of being a curtain-twitcher our estate is very built up and it is easy to notice new cars and people about.

But today I am working from home and they are having a children's party on their back garden. Can hear lots of screaming children, there are banners and balloons out. To be fair I cannot hear adults, just a lot of children screaming and shrieking. I do not want to report them as I'm not that kind of neighbour. But I'm just so sick of people like this, bending and breaking rules etc.

I understand their kids are bored but come on - a party!? I'm dumbfounded.

Sorry I don't have an AIBU. Just needed to vent and hope I'm not the only person in the world suffering with intolerable neighbours.

I prefer Home and Away.

Francescaisstressed · 16/02/2021 15:07

Throughout lockdown my neighbours have had lous hot tub parties, people over etc.
I'm not one for calling the police etc, and my partner still does there bins for them when they are out.
What annoys me is how inconsiderate they are. In the summer last year when I was working from home they blasted loud music in the garden and house, there kids had freinds over and I'm dreading this years summer already.
I know I'm probably being unreasonable, but at least I've managed to save a bit during lockdown as now planning to buy a detached house!

DinosaurDiana · 16/02/2021 15:11

Unfortunately detached doesn’t stop the noise from gardens.

@Francescaisstressed I have a feeling my neighbours will end up getting a hot tub too. More noise from their garden, hurrah!

Inconsiderate neighbours are the worst.

Yeap - had enough of them and their noise!

We are semi detached and the noise has gotten so much worse in the last six months and I swear they are nocturnal as it's fairly quiet during the mornings and then constant shouting, banging and running around all evening and night! I am assuming as he is furloughed and she isn't working at the moment that they just sleep in all morning - including their toddler who is therefore up and running around screaming at 11pm.....

They also have visitors constantly - multiple different households.... I can't be bothered to report - it's their choice but it has just made me realise that they are twats.

I have exactly the same issue - in fact I have spent the last two days on rightmove finding out rural properties in the middle of nowhere we can move to. The problem is I am already in a rural property in the middle of nowhere.. I live in a detached house with a 1/2 acre garden. My neighbour is a long way away - hardly a new estate with houses back to back with each other. He and his children are soooo loud though. We have spent £££'s creating our dream home we thought we were going to live in until then end of our time but they moved in 4 years ago and we have rarely been outside since. My husband was walking the dog the other day and could hear them from three fields away. It is constant kids screaming at the top of their lungs (we can hear them over our TV and we have triple glazing at the back - and they are a long way away to give you an idea of the level of noise). We had a huge row about it last year, I just lost it after him banging out tunes all of bank holiday monday and the kids and a variety of other kids screaming on the huge bouncy castle he rigged up.. He has quitened down but the kids haven't. i don't think it will ever stop, I think they are entitled and arrogant and think they think they are in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours. Whilst it is galling to sell our dream house I do think it is the only choice. I could get the council involved as I have audio recordings of it but I do think I can be arsed with loads of animosity..

YANBU to find it infuriating. Because with this pandemic, other people's actions really do affect others health. It's not a case of 'do what you want'. We all need to be sensible otherwise this is never going to end with mutations etc.

I would want to report them. Whether or not I did I'm not sure. I wouldn't want to create drama for myself.

Do either of them work outside the home?

Meowthress · 16/02/2021 15:37

Ours have just bought an inflatable sex pond.

The kids are in it screeching all day, then in the evenings the adults are in it getting pissed and playing shitey 90s Ibiza music.

I'm going to go out there at dawn and slash the fucking thing.

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 16/02/2021 15:41

@Meowthress go out there at dawn and play your own choice of shitty music instead. 😁

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 16/02/2021 15:44

Tidal actually has an annoying 90s hits playlist

Ileflottante · 16/02/2021 15:50

How can you have a feeling they’re going to buy a hot tub?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 16/02/2021 15:58

Mine are usually pretty quiet, but the during the last week they've being doing some DIY. Or trying to chew through the wall. Could be either.

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/02/2021 16:00

Ours have had building work done for 7 months, non stop drilling all bloody day... driving me mad... I’m sure come summer when they are older and relaxing in their garden my kids will annoy the hell out of them!!

Anothermother3 · 16/02/2021 16:01

I think the day time noise is one thing but the party is just one step too far given what’s happening. I have noisy kids. I do try and moderate the noise but I’m under no illusion that my lovely neighbour is lying when she says she likes hearing them.

BrumBoo · 16/02/2021 16:11

My direct neighbours are 99% golden. Except the constant smell of weed that comes from their house, and (more annoyingly) to make up for their general silence, once in a blue moon will have the most epic ruckus. I think it's happened 3 times in 9 months, but my goodness I came so close to calling the police on one occasion. Last time wasn't an actual argument, but they had such a loud chat on their landing at 3am, they might as well have been bitching about 'what a cow Rachel is' next to my bed.

We have young kids and my half-deaf husband is using Zoom from home, so I suspect we're probably the bigger pain on balance. Plus our neighbours before we moved were the 'Channel 5 Neighbours from Hell' type, so actually counting ourselves pretty bloody lucky.

Cherrysoup · 16/02/2021 16:18

Working today (yes, teachers do work during half term, shocker, I've been on a Teams meeting and then did all the spreadsheets for the results of an assessment for all year groups) but needed headphones to hear the Teams due to 2nd day of unannounced work, hammering, drilling, sanding. Fair enough, they don’t have to tell me, but nor should I have to ask the workmen to unblock the drive. Now the parents are screaming at the kids. So fun. I think everyone is fed up.

@Maude789 impressive. Maybe you can go full Carrie telekinesis on them?

RWK29 · 16/02/2021 17:28

Semi detached and ours neighbours have 2 teenage daughters who have taken to smoking weed out their velux window...which is right next to the window in my baby’s nursery 😡 needless to say there has been plenty of confrontation. I don’t care what people do in their own houses but if it’s filling my house with the smell then I have a real issue 😡

Mum is also a hairdresser and has continued to work from home throughout 😡😡

Frozenintime · 16/02/2021 17:32

Our next door neighbour rents out the house and hasn't maintained the roof. It has cost us £1000 so far to send a solicitor's letter and will be incredibly disruptive to repair the penetrating damp caused by the neglect . And taking the owner to court to claim back the remedial costs. I am dreading having plaster knocked off and having to find somewhere to put all our stuff.
I never want to live next to a rented house again.

I’d report a full blown party TBH!

Our neighbours are fine but every single house on the street (except us) have bought a dog and the barking is ridiculous!

neighboursareawful · 16/02/2021 17:54

Quick NC so I can join in. Always need a vent about my neighbours

My neighbours were rude and antisocial and quite frankly creepy even before lockdown... lockdown has equated to hell, and I broke.

The from early morning to late at night screaming, screeching, weird gutteral sounds and that's just the kids. The constant stream of visitors who turn up the noise volume even more. The screaming is not normal, it's like they are killing each other..."Damien, Damien, don't bang your head repeatedly against the fence, put the hammer down and don't hit your brother with it, Damien the anti christ sweetie..the neighbours don't like to hear you playing" - hey letting a toddler use a real hammer on a shared fence for play is truly delightful.

The sitting at the bottom of their garden to give themselves the best view of my garden patio...,that I'm happily sitting on with noise cancelling headphones ..... trying to get my attention with their withering but increasing cries of "oh our neighbours are such nosy people"....the absolute freaky behaviour of them staring down from their window onto my garden - literally half hanging out of the window and staring... Anyone that visited us pre lockdown called them our creepy neighbours. They did this all the time before lockdown, ramping up the weird staring routines to try and get me to leave my garden - and of course this continued all through lockdown.

So so much more...and yep after 5 years last summer - I broke, I lost It and turned from trying to ignore, and just keep the peace to full on competing with them. I now slam doors, play loud music at their kids bedtimes or blast out what ever the hell I want with base. Why should I have to live my life with noise cancelling headphones on so they can do whatever they want. I've reclaimed my garden - you gits. I will BBQ, I will sit at my patio with a lovely glass of wine.

Bizarrely enough when I lost it, and I mean lost it last summer - they have been a bit better, but every time they up the anti i strike back - noise with noise.

Crap when they move I'm going to have to remember how to be human again. Everyone has their breaking point, but I honestly believe now if I had nipped it firmly in the bud from the get go, it would never have got as bad.

Heatherjayne1972 · 16/02/2021 17:57

Anyone else wondering what a ‘sex pond ‘ is ...

Sorry about your neighbours tho op. Noisy neighbours are the worst
