I have to go into hospital tomorrow for emergency surgery (to have my gallbladder removed) and it means leaving my 11 week old baby. I had to be away from him for about 7 hours today for tests etc and it was hell. I am dreading it with every fibre Sad

Handhold from me. Been there when my son was 5 months but once the gallbladder is gone your life will be so much better.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 15/02/2021 22:44

Flowers you'll get through it. Good luck.

Want2beme · 15/02/2021 22:50

How long are you expected to stay in hospital for? Keep thinking of when it's all over and you'll be back home with your little oneSmileBrew

Happycat1212 · 15/02/2021 22:51

That’s so difficult, really feel for you Flowers

AnnLouiseB · 15/02/2021 22:53

Hopefully just one night if all goes smoothly. They know I have a BF baby and have said they will do what they can to facilitate me getting back to him. I know it will be worth it in the end to be rid of this terrible pain.

Hope it goes well and you are home quickly

TVDFan · 15/02/2021 23:00

I had my gallbladder out in December.
It's the best thing that's happened to me!
It'll be worth it! Good luck Flowers

TiggeryBear · 15/02/2021 23:00

I was away for 2 nights when my DD was 4 months old having my gallbladder removed. (1 the night before, I was admitted as an emergency as my partner found me passed out from the pain after he finished work. & the 2nd night was because I reacted REALLY badly to the anaesthetic) as soon as I was home I realised just how ill I must have been before having the surgery.
Being away from DD was awful, I'm not going to lie, but the relief I felt after the surgery was so incredible it was definitely worth it.

fizzyp0p · 15/02/2021 23:01

I was out same day with mine. Good luck home all goes well Smile

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 15/02/2021 23:04

Caring for an 11-week old baby while suffering with gallbladder pain must have been truly hideous, you poor thing. It'll be so much better when it's done. Your baby won't remember anything about it.

2020iscancelled · 15/02/2021 23:07

The only consolation I can offer is that baby will be fine without you, I’m sure she will be snuggly catnapping most of the time you’re gone and will be getting plenty of cuddles and love.

You’ll feel so much better once it’s done and will have baby snuggles to look forward to Flowers

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 15/02/2021 23:10

Good luck OP. I'm sure all will be ok Without meaning to derail, can I ask....what are the main symptoms of gallbladder problems, and when does it get to the point where hospitals decide to remove?

AnnLouiseB · 15/02/2021 23:15

Thank you so much everyone, and so nice to hear reassuring stories!

OP posts:
AnnLouiseB · 15/02/2021 23:20

@Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername symptoms for me are sudden onset of incredibly severe pain lasting 45 minutes to 3 hours, accompanied by sweats and chills, and sometimes vomiting. The pain would then very abruptly subside, leaving me feeling fine.

I was due to have an appointment with the surgical team in March to discuss removal, but got an emergency referral today because of the severity of the attack. Blood tests showed compromised liver function. But my understanding is that gallstones are always treated surgically now because it’s a simple surgery and nothing else really works.

I was home within the day because I had a young child at home and everything was ok. You could be the same. My quality of life has drastically improved after the update, so you’ll definitely feel the benefits after. Good luck OP, I’m sure you’ll be fine and back to your precious baby. Congrats btw, I couldn’t imagine dealing with that pain with a newborn, you’ll be ok.

Pinkchocolate · 15/02/2021 23:31

After the surgery not update.

tensmum1964 · 15/02/2021 23:37

Hand hold here. Your baby will be fine. Hopefully you will be back home in no time. I had my gall bladder removed several years ago. It literally changed my life over night. The constant flare ups of excrutiating pain that I used to get are no more. Good luck for tomorrow.

AnnLouiseB · 15/02/2021 23:40

Thank you @tensmum1964. That’s what I’m hoping for me too. The pain is so awful and the attacks are so frequent now. I really think it will change my life to have it removed.

Hi OP. I took my friend to the hospital on the day of her operation and went to see her after surgery (evening visiting). OMG, she looked fantastic, so healthy. She was over the moon that she'd got rid of her gall bladder and said she felt like a new woman! Good luck for tomorrow x

Babyroobs · 15/02/2021 23:43

Hope it all goes well op, just try to focus on how much better you will feel.

AnnLouiseB · 16/02/2021 05:12

Thank you, that’s really encouraging ❤️

Hope it goes smoothly. Please remind the team that you are breastfeeding - especially the anaesthetist - the overwhelming majority of the drugs we use are safe in breastfeeding and so any milk you produce can be used to feed your baby! In fact we had recent guidelines published about this anaesthetists.org/Home/Resources-publications/Guidelines/Anaesthesia-and-sedation-in-breastfeeding-women-2020
