To not know what to do with myself?

Poptart4 · 15/02/2021 19:35

I spend my mornings cleaning, home schooling, playing with the kids, going for walks/food shop. I'm quite happy with this routine. I spend my evenings watching tv. Im getting abit bored with this but what else can you do during lockdown.

Its the afternoons between 4pm and 7pm. I'm absolutely bored out of my mind during these hours. I just dont know what to do with myself and I'm starting to wish my life away.

Any ideas or suggestions? Or are you struggling to get through the day like I am?

I know what you mean. I feel like I should be being more productive, but it’s hard to know what to do. I have a toddler to look after and every day feels like ground hog day!

Dotinthecity · 15/02/2021 19:50

I feel the same. All this effort we’re putting into preserving life, yet we can’t live it. I lay with a towel over my eyes this afternoon for an hour.

Spied · 15/02/2021 19:52

Why not save the walk for the afternoon?
It sounds like you're squashing lots in to the morning.

Tumblebugsjump · 15/02/2021 20:06

Absolutely! That period of times drags, although cooking dinner most nights takes an hour or so...

Opia90 · 15/02/2021 20:08

Yeh I was gonna say that, spread things out a bit x

nowbringmethathorizon · 15/02/2021 20:09

My 4-7 is the busiest part of the day! Prepping and making dinner, eating and making sure kids eat properly then tidying up afterwards then bath times then bed times! But my kids are fairly young so maybe that's why.

It probably sounds like alot but that's between 8am -4pm so its spread out. I haven't been walking in the late afternoons because it was getting dark and cold early but as the evenings are starting to get brighter saving the walk till then is probably a good idea.

Read a book
Learn to play guitar
Pick up a pen and paper and jot down what’s in your head! You might have a talent for writing
Get a set of weights and use them, you might end up enjoying it (or the benefits it brings)
Try free yoga/Pilates lessons on YouTube
Relax! You sound busy!

Laiste · 15/02/2021 20:27

I've always disliked the 4 till 6/7 ish bit of the day. It's a push through to get the DCs fed and the washing up done and the tidying up done and the DCs to bed and then finally sit your arse down and chill!

Download Duolingo and start learning another language. Take up knitting/crocheting. Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. Play video games.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/02/2021 20:33

Duolingo or similar

PandoraP · 15/02/2021 20:37

It’s the graveyard shift when you have young children. I have no idea what to do with myself in the evenings anymore. Nothing on tv except endless Mr Brown’s BoysSad

I have never been a gamer in my life but playing ps4 is keeping me sane atm. It's such good escapism. I used to find cooking a real chore but I've started really taking pride in what I make. Not saying it's amazing as such, but I'll really make it nice and try different things even if it's just different veg or experimenting with a sauce. It's proven that completing tasks releases a feel good hormone in the brain. I think this lockdown is so shit because over the summer we could all be outside, and being stuck at home wasn't so bad when we could sunbathe and have barbecues all the time. The lighter evenings will hopefully help. I still can't recommend getting a hobby enough though. DH has been a gamer for some years so even that mutual interest gives us something interesting to talk about over meals lol.

I feel the same OP. I'm lucky tht I have work to go to but I cant wait for the gyms, theatres, cinemas, pubs, restaurants and shops to open.

I have taken to baking, have Marie Kondo'd the house, am reading a book a fortnight and knitting baby clothes as I have a few pregnant friends.

grassisjeweled · 15/02/2021 20:39

What are the kids up to at that time?

rosegoldwatcher · 15/02/2021 20:41

Learn a karaoke version of this...

Chimeraforce · 15/02/2021 20:42

I've started knitting as a complete novice. I don't find it easy but I'm happy to see my scarf growing. I've learned knit, purl, cast on and off. I'm experimenting with creating my own stitches.
Learned the basics from you tube. RJ knits started me off. Kills the Boredom.

Get a flashing light up disco ball and dance around. Burns off energy and you can drink booze at the same time because it’s a disco and that’s totally allowed. My young DC love a lockdown disco at the end of the day.

GranaryBread47 · 15/02/2021 20:59

I'm the same. Kids are done with homeschooling and snacks and everything they need me for by 3 and I have until 6 to entertain myself while they play. I've started baking for fun again which is nice. I do small batches of everything so I can bake every other day with no waste or overload of baked goods. I find myself scrolling through TikTok (never thought I'd say that) while half-watching gilmore girls. I closed down my small business last September and I miss it so much. I'd spend this time doing orders or doing admin bits and I always wished I had more free time but now I hate it.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 15/02/2021 21:02

Cross stitch.might even try knitting

ScrapThatThen · 15/02/2021 21:23

I've been playing the Wii, sewing and dancing to radio stations from all around the world (Jamaica and Chile are my faves).

WoodpileHouse · 15/02/2021 21:24

Take up crochet. I have learnt by watching YouTube videos.

Bringallthebiscuits · 15/02/2021 21:31

Oh wow I wish I had this problem, it’s hard to imagine having time to myself in the day! I’d happily put my feet up and read, or do art, or bake. There must be things you enjoy doing? Or are all your hobbies outside the house normally?

Anonanon12 · 15/02/2021 21:32

Buy a new book, sit outside in the sun (when it starts to look a bit brighter) with a cup of coffee..... Baking maybe
