To ask for your tips for sleeping in the living room

Posting here for traffic... Baby sleeps through the night when he sleeps on his own in the box room. EOW and every Friday his big brother sleeps in that room so our 15mo comes back to our room. He wakes up at 2-3 and there's no way to get him to go back sleep. Any tips for how to sleep in the living room as that seems the obvious answer?

@birdantfrog

Can you draw a rough floor plan of the downstairs for us? If you can split the sitting room and make a snug/4th bedroom with a sofa bed or a day bed and a tv then that is the best answer I think. Big squidgy sofas and tv and your teenagers will love it!
Yes this has all been discussed on a previous thread. And all options were dismissed by the DH. There are two reception rooms if I remember rightly.

We have a dining room and a living room. The dining room is open as main door is there and the stairs are on that side too. Living room is self contained and has internal and external windows, so the best candidate for splitting into two.

Surely your dining room becomes the living room also, and the living room becomes the 4th bedroom.

I haven't lived in a house which has both a living room and a dining room for .... nope... It's too far back in time to calculate.

Either it's been kitchens you eat in, or a combined living room/dining room.

We have a galley kitchen so obviously we can't eat there and no, the dining room is not big enough for a dining table to sit six and a sofa. In fact we're thinking of moving the fridge and freezer (they're currently under the counter) to the dining room (where my desk is) so we can have a normal size fridge that can hold our weekly shop and for us to have a dishwasher.

Turn living room into your bedroom and study. Get rid of sofa. Put TV in dining room. If need be get comfier dining chairs and footstools and floor cushions. Remove the part of the kitchen counter under which fridge/freezer sit. Remove any cupboard above them. Put in full size fridge freezer and dishwasher.

Why on earth did you buy a house without a space for everyone in the family to sleep? It's ridiculous.

Split the lounge with a foldaway decent bed plus cupboard for DSS and sliding doors. When he's there, small lounge. When he goes, big lounge and his bits go away in the cupboard.

Fressia123 · 16/02/2021 14:29

Because we couldn't afford anything better and rents were unaffordable too at the time. It is what it is anyways.

You can get room dividers to temporarily divide the living room into two. See if it works before getting the work done. Also might help convince your husband its a good option.
