Is it just the places I am looking at or have prices gone sky-high? Week at a Parkdean holiday park in Devon last summer £2,080, this year £3,180!!

It’s to be expected. They need to recover the lost revenue from being closed plus higher demand means prices will be higher anyway. A lot of this years holidays will of been locked in at last years prices due to being moved so even less holidays to book to make up revenue.

Supply and demand
Try getting anything half decent in the school holidays in eg Cornwall
Even in normal times UK holidays are quite expensive relatively speaking

ConeHat · 14/02/2021 19:07

I booked Haven back in January while they they had discounts. It looks like the same holiday is £1000 more now. I took a gamble and booked up all my holidays early. Even if they get cancelled in fully covered. I want to do some weekends away so I think I'm going to book them asap as well now.

swg1 · 14/02/2021 19:08

Jesus. I've got a week booked in a three bedroom cottage in Somerset for £1380 and I thought that was spendy! Maybe look at cottages instead? I know it means losing the pool and activities though.

Or look elsewhere. We stayed at a lovely little caravan site in Cumbria last year. Right on the beach -- summer holiday price this year £650.

SomewhereUpMyArse · 14/02/2021 19:09

Yeah Buy British

hm246 · 14/02/2021 19:10

I work in a hotel near a very popular family tourist attraction. My GM has budgeted for the busiest quarter ever over the summer. Prices will be sky rocketing.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/02/2021 19:16

Ooh I live in Cornwall. Anyone want to borrow my spare room (for a hefty fee?)

Only joking.

Sohoso · 14/02/2021 19:19

I’ve never been on a holiday in the UK as an adult as I’ve literally never been able to afford it. I’ve had plenty of trips abroad though. We’ve actually moved out of London to a beach destination to see out the pandemic, basically to save paying for holidays again!

Angel2702 · 14/02/2021 19:20

We booked ours as soon as we got back last year. We saw how crazy prices went up last year and people trying to book last min were paying silly money.

DustyMaiden · 14/02/2021 19:21

I am going to a lovely hotel in Cornwall with excellent staff. DDs house.

AlohaMolly · 14/02/2021 19:23

I work for a holiday home company - we haven’t inflated our prices at all. We are, however, full for school holidays already.

Same. It's a rip off. I'm saving my money so we can have a fuck off brilliant holiday abroad next year instead. I couldn't afford to holiday in the UK previously and I certainly can't afford it now. I'm sure the UK providers won't miss us but I hope the guys where we're going will be pleased to see us when we finally get there.

The UK is way too expensive for what you get. For just over 2.5k the four of can get a 5 All inclusive in Greece or Spain, with tons of pools, sun, sea, sand and beautiful food and flights. In the UK you'd be lucky to get a filthy self-catering chalet at a 2 holiday park for the same money.

We have booked a couple of cottages on a Cornish beach through friends. Would be double the price otherwise

Bluewavescrashing · 14/02/2021 19:46

Omg I bloody love hotels. I've told my children I won't ever go into a home, just a hotel with a spa attached.

carlycornwall · 14/02/2021 19:47

Totally agree. I am gobsmacked at what people pay to stay in Cornwall, lovely though it is. Loads of people I know here let their homes out on Airbnb for a fortnight to fund their own holidays abroad.

We jumped on the bandwagon, let our spare room out for 3 months last year and it's paid for four holidays abroad. Whether we will be able to take them is another matter but we're definitely doing it again this year.

Bluewavescrashing · 14/02/2021 19:48

It's all very well saying for that rice you could have 2 weeks all inclusive in the med, but this yyeartgat won't be an option. Hence the UK price hike

MadinMarch · 14/02/2021 19:50

@dividedwefall
Yes, but we may not be allowed to travel abroad this year, so the price comparison is meaningless and hence why so many people are booking holidays in this country.

SomewhereUpMyArse · 14/02/2021 19:54

@swg1 I don't like hotels either. But on the continent for £650 I can get a beach front line two bedroom apartment with cable, WiFi, Aircon, balcony, fully modern kitchen and bathroom and still have change for flights and breakfasts to spend a week in a nice sunny place with no pissed up arseholes, no rain, no shitting in chemical toilets and no £100 train tickets for days out. I'm really not about to spend the same to spend the week in worse living conditions than I do at home for the sake of calling that experience a holiday.

TalskiddyTreacleMiner · 14/02/2021 19:54

Snap. Our's have remained the same too. We're going to have to put them up next year though. We're also totally booked up and we could sell the summer holidays 5 times over at the moment. Demand is crazy!
Mindymomo · 14/02/2021 19:55

We went to a cottage in the Isle of Wight last year, same week this year is another £1,000 and it’s quite full. We book a cottage in Suffolk in December for later this year, glad we did. I won’t be paying silly prices just to go away, if pub and restaurants are open that will be my days out.

swg1 · 14/02/2021 19:56

Spent too long travelling in them for work! They're nice if you have peace and quiet to peruse a massive buffet breakfast after sleeping alone in your massive bed and before you visit a spa.

Less so if you were kept awake all night by two small children who keep winding each other up, the buffet is cancelled because of covid and you are now picking up disapproving looks while said small children boing around like maniacs.
