Unexplained waking with a jump at 2.08am every morning

Hello all,

I'd like to start by saying that I don't think I believe in ghosts or the supernatural, however I am beginning to feel uncomfortable/eery since buying my first home 3 months ago and am hoping for some advice or even just some reassurance!

I moved into my house 1 month ago after spending the first two months renovating/sprucing it up and since moving in have only slept there 80% of the time as I continue to be split across my home and my BFs home.

I am a light sleeper and often briefly wake 2 or 3 times a night.
Since moving into my house, however, I have woken with a jump at the exact same time every morning. I wake with a start and a gasp and immediately check my phone on my bedside table - 2.08am every time.
I have checked my phone to make sure no alarms/notifications are sounding at this time which they are not. When I wake I often listen and look out the windows. Each time the street is deadly quiet and I cannot see anything which would explain my sudden waking.
To add to the peculiarity of this, when I stay at my BFs home I do not wake at this time.

AIBU to feel eery and a little freaked out by this?

I bet I'll wake up at 2.08 wondering if OP woke up at 2.08....

I use a sleep app called Sleep Cycle that records any noises during the night - usually it’s just me snoring but it picks up anything and also shows where you’ve slept deeply or lightly. Maybe worth a try?

ConkerBonkers · 12/02/2021 23:21

Could you possibly benefit from just blessing and sageing the house? After this you could hopefully relax a bit more about the potential woo side of things, which seems to be where you might be at right now, and then try to find a physical world explanation that explains things to your own satisfaction.

LowJinks · 12/02/2021 23:21

I think your natural body clock can be very accurate at keeping time. If I set my alarm for the same time every day I wake up just before the hands click together. So: wake up, look at clock, wait 1 second, click, alarm. Maybe the same thing is happening to you at a really inconvenient time. I'm a bit woo but I think this is a more likely explanation.

@JovialNickname

You're clearly in a horror film but don't know it yet.
If we never hear back can we assume she's been eaten by a werewolf?
Ozgirl75 · 12/02/2021 23:40

Don’t record yourself sleeping! Good god have you never seen Paranormal Experience?

I know, that's my worry haha! I actually downloaded an app last week to set a timer on a sound recorder on my phone. Tested it and it definitely worked...but then when I set it to record over night from 2-2.10am it never started recording. And to answer an earlier question, no it's just me at the house as my BF is adamant there's a monster in the attic so won't sleep there (ridiculous I know). I'll definitely download SleepCycle app! Thanks again everyone!!

I have to agree. Just move into you your BF house and sell yours.

Jesus and the baby donkey!! It stopped working just at that time? I'm going to have to leave this thread because I'm going to spook myself and not sleep!

Dd1 at age 3 would always wake crying and having night terrors at the same time each night. Turned out it was a fault in wiring where a previous electric meter had been disconnected, but there was still a current running and it was causing something metal to vibrate loudly on the wall outside the flat next to her bedroom. It was properly disconnected and she stopped waking.

Mumsnut · 13/02/2021 00:59

I was going g to say foxes too. They are creatures of habit

Ratsindahouse · 13/02/2021 06:02

Any chance you could be pregnant? Unlikely I guess as you said it doesn’t happen at your boyfriends house. Both pregnancies I started waking up at 4.13 am exactly from about 6 weeks. In fact, it was what alerted me to my 2nd pregnancy (many years apart) as I had never experienced that since the first time! The exact timing of it was really strange!

Lifeinaonesie · 13/02/2021 06:07

Well its obviously the attic monster

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 13/02/2021 06:32

Your BF won't sleep in your house? 🤔

Oysterbabe · 13/02/2021 06:34

Have you recently bought a second hand wardrobe?

LouLou789 · 13/02/2021 06:42

If it’s a regular noise, you will get used to it. I lived over a small railway station years ago and woke (heart pounding) during rail strike days at the exact time the first train should have come through.
If you want to break the pattern, try setting your alarm for 1.45, then settle back down to sleep.

Graciebobcat · 13/02/2021 06:46

There might have been a noise one night and then your body got into a pattern of waking. You could try taking Nytol or similar before bed - sometimes breaks up a pattern of annoying wakefulness.

Somuddled · 13/02/2021 07:13

So, did you wake up last night?

I think it's 3.15 if I'm not mistaken. When I was a girl (many moons ago!) I used to sometimes wake up at 3.15, scared the bejesus out of me, but then I did have an over active imagination. Let us now how you got on last night OP.
PotholeParadies · 13/02/2021 07:33

Ali Sparks has a book about this.

Elena can’t sleep. Nor can Matt. Tima, too, is staring at the ceiling night after night after night.

And all three of them wake up at exactly the same time. 1.34am. Why?
