To get an inflatable sex pond?

Yay or nay? I’m revamping my very small back garden and the kids really want one (they’re asking for a hot tub, not a sex pond, but I know that’s what they’re commonly referred to on here Grin). It would have to be an inflatable rather than proper one as there’s no access to the back other than through the house, and also I’m not rich. I have a much larger front garden so it wouldn’t be leaving us without outdoor space.

The idea kind of appeals to me too but I thought I’d put this idea over to the room of very honest mumsnetters who will tell me if it’s a bad idea.

Do you have one? Do you actually use it?

Are running costs crazy?

Are they noisy and likely to piss my neighbour’s off?

They are a deep paddling pool with chemicals.. don't kid yourself that they are a hot tub. My folks have a neighbour on one side with an inflatable, and the other side has a proper hard shell hot tub. All the noise comes from the inflatable one.
Hard shell ones have moulded seats and jets. Inflatable ones have a ring of holes round the edge for the bubbles to come out of. Yet both have similar running costs.

Saniteyes · 12/02/2021 00:54

Yes they're tiny, but if they're all packed together in a bag they would be visible.

Think of it as dust, you don't see all the dust in a room, but when you hoover it up it fills the bag and you can then see the dust.

AtLastEarwax · 12/02/2021 00:55

That's like a feather:brick weight comparison

Nevertheless a hot tub is amazing. Never regretted ours at all

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/02/2021 00:56

Cum again a sex pond

Saniteyes · 12/02/2021 01:04

I suppose a bag full of brick would look just as full as a bag full of skin cells, wouldn't weigh the same mind.

SaveMySkin · 12/02/2021 01:25

Love mine. The noise doesn't bother me but I make sure not to turn the air jets on after about 8pm so as not to annoy any neighbours. Needs daily maintenance but it's 2 mins to check levels and top up chlorine.

Not sure on total costs. did notice electricity bill go up but not by silly amounts.

Only downside is it did give me thrush from frequent use

ThatchersCold · 12/02/2021 01:26

I can’t bring myself to be too grossed out by my own DCs skin cells bobbing about in it. It would only be me and them who use it. Far less grim than public swimming pools with the piss/pubes/genital secretions/poo crumbs etc etc of complete strangers.

After an evening of scouring the internet and finding pretty much everything out of stock, or super expensive, or crap reviews finally I discovered this:

direct.asda.com/george/toys-character/pools-sand-pits-water-toys/lay-z-spa-bahamas-airjet-hot-tub/050270716,default,pd.html

£365 inc delivery, I bought one even though my garden won’t be ready for a few weeks as if it’s anything like last year it’ll be impossible to find one when spring comes.

There was this great thread that I read earlier that might be of help to you.

I take it you never use public swimming pools, or hotel pools then

Actually no, I don't.

You must realise though that a large number of people do, so a hot tub for family or a bit of chlorine would not be a problem.

Go for it OP. Our estate has strict rules, we aren't allowed furniture, fences or washing lines so a hot tub would be a big no. I'm jealous!

@Penistoe

inflatable sex pond

I have never heard this before. Excellent.

They are also described as a big bowl of chlamydia soup!!

"They are also described as a big bowl of chlamydia soup!!"

By who? Weird.

Haffiana · 12/02/2021 13:41

Yep, chlamydia swamp...

Sugarandteaandmum · 12/02/2021 13:57

I can't understand why the chlorine etc "cleans" the water. At the bacterial level yes i can see bleach deactivates viruses etc. But how about actual bits of dirt, poo crumbs, blobs of custard off a child's hair? My DH says it does, but I can't believe it.

We have one & get it out about 3x year for a couple of weeks. Any more than that it gets expensive to run, we get bored of going in it after a week or so, and we start wanting to do other stuff with the garden like BBQs. And after a fortnight I start feeling icky and like it can't possibly be clean. So we deflate it and put it in the loft (which is like hauling a corpse up the stairs, by the way, an inflatable hot tub is for the physically strong!)

But I'd say it's worth it even for that time, especially this year. It rings the changes and amuses the children.

20newnames · 12/02/2021 14:10

Good for you OP, enjoy it!

Must admit I am tempted by that one! It's inexpensive enough not to be a problem if the novelty wears off after a while.
StarCourt · 12/02/2021 14:44

Oh now I'm so tempted too. I can't get in or out of the bath but a hot tub would be fine

beckycharlie · 12/02/2021 14:48

I brought a lay-z-spa from asda yesterday for £350 after I'd been searching for weeks for 1 as my mom is 60 next month and it's for her birthday present as she's always wanted 1, I've read lots of reviews and layzspa seemed to be the best and wave spa but they have a long preorder.

turtletattle · 12/02/2021 18:09

If you think too much about anything it can ruin the experience - how 'clean' is the sea? I'd get one if I could.

TheKeatingFive · 12/02/2021 18:24

Don’t listen to the killjoys on here, OP. Imagine being so obsessed with hygiene, how fucking dull.

Get the sex pond. I certainly would if I could.

StarCourt · 12/02/2021 18:50

@CounsellorTroi thanks for the link I've just bought one !
