To be slightly cheered by everything about the vaccine process

Everything from the science that got us here in the first place,
the booking system-straightforward and I didn’t have to prove I wasn’t a robot 5 times (unlike when booking a test!),
the fact that they are galloping through the categories
and especially the volunteers at the hubs. Cheery, efficient, reassuring.
Brilliant. Well done everyone involved.

That was cheering to read too - thanks!

What a great post! Completely agree. The vaccine programme has really lifted my spirits.

Sparklesocks · 10/02/2021 14:33

Yes it’s been very well organised from what I’ve seen bar a few hiccups.

My father is getting his vaccine on Friday which I’m delighted about, he caught covid over Christmas and was so poorly. Didn’t need hospitalisation but it was very scary as he was so ill. It’s a weight off my mind knowing he’s going to be more protected.

GintyMcGinty · 10/02/2021 14:36

It's a shambles where I am. (Scotland, Fife)

They are way behind.
They've massively overbooked and are now sending out cancellations
People have been standing in queues for 3-4 hours.
Then turned away cause they've run out.

So jealous of England just now.

noblegiraffe · 10/02/2021 14:37

The early evidence is that it’s working too, deaths in hospital in over 80s (the first group to be jabbed) are slowly dropping.

elastamum · 10/02/2021 14:39

Completely agree. I am volunteering at a very large vaccination hub with my DP. I welcome and marshall people round the site and support the vaccination teams. It is one of the most positive and heartening things I have ever done. Although the days are long I cannot think of a better way to spend my time off work.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/02/2021 14:39

YANBU.

I was looking at Covid rates for my local area and rates in over 60s are dropping much faster than the younger age range. It's good.

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 10/02/2021 14:39

Yup, proof that the British spirit still exists. Well done to the scientists, NHS, and all the volunteers and workers making it a success!

gwenneh · 10/02/2021 14:56

I'm in the US. "Shitshow" doesn't even begin to cover it. The UK is going to blast past us with the percentage of population vaccinated in weeks, and I am DELIGHTED for you -- I can't help but be happy every time I see one of my friends back home has had theirs.

In my state, there are 90 vaccine sites. There are 70 separate websites you can check for appointments at these sites. There is a main "state system" which is connected to maybe a dozen at best, and which isn't working very well emails not being sent, etc. And this system is definitely for the computer-savvy only. There is a phone number for people who don't have computer access; hold times are hours long, people get disconnected, and there are no appointments at the end all it is, at the moment, is someone entering your information into the "state system" which, as I said, doesn't work and isn't connected to most of the sites.

There are 4 million eligible to receive the vaccine right now, and circa 200k doses getting to us each week, to be used for first and second doses. Appointments are rare, and go as fast as they appear. Waitlists are thousands of people long.

There are six "megasites". They ran out of doses, as did the local hospitals, despite the state allegedly getting nearly double the initial predicted supplies. DH had to have his appointment rescheduled. When he did get one, he did end up queuing for three hours, but he got it.

So I am absolutely thrilled that this rollout isn't an omnishambles everywhere. You're very fortunate!

Davros · 10/02/2021 15:05

I was in and out in 15 minutes when I had mine which I thought was excellent. DH had his today and took 10 minutes! I was waiting in the car, planning on some quality MN time, and there he was, bashing on the window. That is NW London btw

StarcourtMall · 10/02/2021 15:08

It must be so frustrating to be in a country that doesn’t seem to be handling the roll out well. I live in a part of England that seems a bit slower than others, but both my parents and both my in-laws have had theirs today, so that’s great!
I worry about how they are going to prioritise the next groups after the over 50s, as I thought it would be about risk of serious illness (age being the biggest factor), rather than risk of exposure (teachers etc), but maybe that’s just me being selfish as I’m late 40s! I also work in a public facing role that is still open and interact with up to 600 people a day, but because I am not a teacher, supermarket worker or police officer, I wouldn’t have a priority occupation I don’t think.
But yes, overall we should be very relieved about how well the vaccinations are going.

VickyEadieofThigh · 10/02/2021 15:10

We HAD to have something that this shower of a govt did right, it was the law of averages. That this is the one thing they've allowed the NHS to handle is significant.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 10/02/2021 15:12

It's a bit of a worry that some people put all their hopes in a vaccine and think of it as a magical solution. Reality is going to be painful.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 10/02/2021 15:13

My parents had theirs on Saturday morning and were in and out within minutes. They were full of praise for the whole process (although my mother’s view may have been skewed by the nurse saying she looked more like 59 than 69 Grin)

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 10/02/2021 15:21

This is very timely as I got a call yesterday afternoon offering me a Covid jab today. I am mid sixties and wasn't expecting to get the vaccination for a few weeks yet (in Kent) so was very pleased to be offered the chance for my first jab. I have been feeling a bit down the last month, missing human contact and this has really lifted my spirits.

I'm back home after having my jab and it very well organised and cheerful. I'm so grateful and feeling a bit more optimistic today.

There's always one.

No one thinks that it's a magic solution. But there's no denying that it will improve things.

what do you mean, there's always one? Posters are allowed to express an opinion.

The gushing over the "vaccine" is irritating. I am allowed to roll my eyes as the pandemic is bringing over-reaction over anything and everything.

Of course people are allowed to have opinions. But some people seem to enjoy trying to bring others down. Just because you're a negative Nancy doesn't mean the rest of us have to be.

I am sorry you find it so hard to accept that not everybody agrees with you and you have such a bad attitude already. Lord knows how well you react when proven wrong.

ShakeTheDisease · 10/02/2021 15:35

I'll gush away, thanks all the same. Delighted there's something the government haven't managed to fuck up yet! (Not for want of opportunities.) Had my first dose last week and couldn't believe how smoothly it all went. Hope you get improvements soon @gwenneh and @GintyMcGinty - the more of us who are safe, the safer we all are collectively.

Bad attitude? I'm not the one that has come onto a positive thread and tried to be patronising and negative.
