To this this is gloriously mean spirited?

This is lighthearted and weird.

Dd (9) is at school. It's been snowy here.

A lot of the children made snowmen on the school field over breaks/lunch.

DD's temp teacher took the class outside after last break and told them all to find the snow man they had built and destroy it/get rid because and I quote 'you should only create art if you are prepared to destroy it' Hmm

I'm not sure what she meant by that (the teacher seems a bit pretentious to me and difficult for 8/9yr olds to understand) but anyway DD took the snowman down her and her friends made so whatever.

But does anyone else find it quite mean making kids destroy their snowmen? It was only DD's class and they'll be gone by the end of the week.

Still can't work out if it was some weird statement on art 😂😂

It's a snowman. The weather will destroy it in a few days. It's not like they carved it in granite, is it?

GammyLeg · 09/02/2021 18:51

@TableFlowerss there’s nothing wrong with the phrase “mean spirited”. That’s your (weird) problem that doesn’t need to be aired on this funny thread.

OP that is bonkers but very funny. So many days blend into one at school, your DD will remember this one forever!

Arobase · 09/02/2021 18:51

I'd love to know where she got that from. I wonder whether Michelangelo agreed he should only spend four years painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling if he was prepared to throw a bucket of whitewash over it?

HideTanner · 09/02/2021 18:53

I enjoyed having teachers who had a taste for the dramatics.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 09/02/2021 18:53

That's really wanky. And a missed opportunity to observe the melting of the snowmen, science, poetry, art, all sorts.
It's just a bit weird aswell to order them to do it. To allow it - fine. To instruct them to do it - odd.

Reinventinganna · 09/02/2021 18:54

She’s a snowman killer

@Whatisthisfuckery

I think the hairdresser should do that to her next time she gets her hair done. As she’s about to leave the salon looking great the hairdresser should say, ‘I have created wonderful art with your hair, and now I must destroy it.’

What a miserable sod your DD’s teacher is.

She was mean spirited when I was at school too. Been there a looong time

Then definitely question this. I've always wanted to go back to my old school now I'm older and wiser and point out to the games teacher that her job is to teach all the kids, not just the ones she thinks will enhance her glory on the hockey pitch; and that her job is also not to play stupid power games by bullying the ones who won't enhance her reputation.

HotChoc10 · 09/02/2021 18:57

Am I the only one who thinks destroying a snowman sounds more fun than building one?!

When do we meet ?
JackieWeaver4PM · 09/02/2021 19:00

Either she's been in lockdown too long or she's a closet anarchist hell bent on perpetuating the destruction of civilised society via the medium of snowman desecration.

No good will come of this, regardless.

Good thing he didn’t, what would tourists scream at?
hansgrueber · 09/02/2021 19:07

@stampsurprise

“Every act of creation begins with an act of destruction” Pablo Picasso. Picasso's words were meant in the context of artistic creativity, he believed that for one to be truly creative they must destroy their old knowledge and build on a new plane.
Bet he didn't mean a snowman though!
SunshineCake · 09/02/2021 19:09

Teacher sounds embarrassing. Idiot.

I'd have gone out and made as many snowmen as I could.

hansgrueber · 09/02/2021 19:12

@4pence

'Gloriously mean spirited' -Its a snowman! ....arguable more fun bashing on completion then building!

Did you never build sandcastles and jump on them afterwards ?

The moment of creation had passed!

Yes, by all means enjoy choosing to jump on a sandcastle one's built, but this is some pretentious twaddle from another person using their position on a power trip.
PickAChew · 09/02/2021 19:12

I suspect they were still rather lively after their lunchtime fun so the teacher wanted them to work off some wriggles.

GreyHare · 09/02/2021 19:14

@HotChoc10

No, I loved the ceremonial decapitation of the snow man after it was built and stamping it all flat again. I would have loved to have been told to go destroy all the snowmen by a teacher.
PickAChew · 09/02/2021 19:15

Actually, sounds like a taskmaster thing. Build a snowman... Destroy the snowman in the most creative way possible. Bonus point for getting rid of all the snow.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2021 19:21

Sounds bizarre. Can't wait for the Daily Mail to pick this up-or This Morning!

stampsurprise · 09/02/2021 19:23

Poor snowmen! All they ever wanted to do was make people happy...what had they ever done to her?!😢

stampsurprise · 09/02/2021 19:26

The moment they realised their fate...

Yes! Let us fall screaming into the void together.

Do you think mumsnet will delete the thread if we post too many personal insults? You're all cunts.

For art!

year5teacher · 09/02/2021 19:36

I’m imagining an old yeller style moment with a child having to destroy the snowman. Oh my god. I’m obsessed with the idea of unleashing a class of year 4 kids out to “destroy their art”. Absolutely mental, why would she think that was a good idea 😂

stampsurprise · 09/02/2021 19:38

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly 😂😂😂😂😂
