This is lighthearted and weird.

Dd (9) is at school. It's been snowy here.

A lot of the children made snowmen on the school field over breaks/lunch.

DD's temp teacher took the class outside after last break and told them all to find the snow man they had built and destroy it/get rid because and I quote 'you should only create art if you are prepared to destroy it' Hmm

I'm not sure what she meant by that (the teacher seems a bit pretentious to me and difficult for 8/9yr olds to understand) but anyway DD took the snowman down her and her friends made so whatever.

But does anyone else find it quite mean making kids destroy their snowmen? It was only DD's class and they'll be gone by the end of the week.

Still can't work out if it was some weird statement on art 😂😂

One of the teachers at my primary school in the late 60s/early 70s infamously told her class that Father Christmas didn't exist...

StealthPolarBear · 09/02/2021 17:18

Giving her the benefit of the doubt they might have enjoyed it?. But from what you've said she doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/02/2021 17:18

Yeah! She reckons she has been clever. But that really isn't what Picasso meant.

But it does leave the door open for your DD... lots of irreverent advice from people like the Dalai Lama she could visit upon said teacher, with an artistically presented quote 😁

indieauthor · 09/02/2021 17:19

@2021booklover

That story has daily mail sad face written all over it Grin
LOL - agree! Smile
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/02/2021 17:19

Did she get them to kung-fu kick the heads off the snowmen as part of a current affairs lesson? 😂

ThePlantsitter · 09/02/2021 17:21

I bet she filmed it and is planning to call the film 'cold carnage' & put it in a gallery

MintyMabel · 09/02/2021 17:21

What a load of bollocks.

Tell her next time she does a worksheet for her teacher, to rip it up before she sees it. “Only destroying what I created, Miss”

On a serious note, I’d want to ask her what the hell she was thinking.

Submariner · 09/02/2021 17:22

Was the last day of embroidery club just you lot fucking everything up with scissors?

If so I'm actually starting to like her a bit.

Whatup · 09/02/2021 17:23

Yeah because every artist ever has been prepared to destroy their work. What is she on about ?

HollowTalk · 09/02/2021 17:26

How does she account for the number of works of art in the world, eh?

Haffiana · 09/02/2021 17:27

It is GLORIOUSLY pretentious... Grin

In later years your DD will be dining out on this.

Tal45 · 09/02/2021 17:27

Why don't you tell your DD that you don't agree with the teacher when she pulls this weird shit. Tell her to ask the teacher why. Why should you only make art if you're prepared to destroy it. Better still ask your DD why to get her thinking and questioning the teachers standpoint for herself. x

Chutneywashisname · 09/02/2021 17:30

This is FANTISTICALLY pretentious. What an absolute twit she has shown herself to be.

52andblue · 09/02/2021 17:33

Oh dear.
A teacher who thinks they have a 'higher message' to pass to 9 y\olds.
Idiotic.

tinylittleyou · 09/02/2021 17:35

But they will melt anyway so what point is she proving? Very weird!

CallmeAngelina · 09/02/2021 17:38

WTF?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/02/2021 17:38

Was it like this? Grin

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 09/02/2021 17:45

Like a weird cake smash.

TheMoth · 09/02/2021 17:47

She should have made them leave the snowmen to wilt, sadly, as the snow around them vanished over the next few days. It could have been a metaphor for.... something or other. Hope in an increasingly hostile world? Human existence ? The last iceberg?

YoniAndGuy · 09/02/2021 17:51

I'm cringing for her!

Yep she's totally imagining lots of parents telling their friends what an amazing and unusual teacher little Percy has - such a fascinating person, with a unique perspective on everything Grin

shiningstar2 · 09/02/2021 17:53

What???? Get the 9 year old children to destroy their snowmen???? Some mind have found this quite upsetting. They had a bit of rare fun all together in these strange days. Imo the snowmen should have been left alone. We used to love to see whose snowmen lasted the longest. Get kids to destroy their creation because you should always be willing to destroy what you created??? Picasso's view as an adult is only one view. I am working on a little piece of embroidery, unskillfully, at the moment and I am not destroying it however it turns out. Why should kids be told/made to do this. If they wanted to, their choice, but being TOLD to destroy their creations??? No way!!!

gg12346 · 09/02/2021 17:53

Covid 19 mental after effects on the teacher .Seriously she seems silly :)

Effitall · 09/02/2021 17:56

Sounds like a right fun sponge

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/02/2021 17:57

Well that teacher sounds like a complete bellend. I would love to know the reason for that.

BoogieFeet · 09/02/2021 18:02

Weird. Maybe next time the children should build these... (love Calvin and Hobbes snowmen)
