To be shocked by such blatant breast feeding shaming

Sat here watching this morning while breast feeding my baby to watch Philip scofield and andrew neil edited by MNHQ at OP's request saying "thats taken a really dark turn", "im trying to get that image out of my head now" when a guest on the show, camilla talked about breastfeeding her children on the daily talk topics. Philip scofields face and gestures were absolutely disgusting! So much stigma around breastfeeding already.. absolutely shocked to see grown men express such breast feeding shaming live on TV.

This from the guy who lied to his wife for 27 years and robbed her of the chance to have a genuine loving marriage in that time. Vile.

@Somethingsnappy

I didn't see it, but from reading this, it sounds like he responded to the turn of phrase rather than the concept of breastfeeding....I hope so anyway. After all, when we talk about milking a cow, that is a different action completely. We wouldn't say a calf was milking the cow either...we'd just say it was feeding. I guess that's where the imagery came from. As I said though, I haven't actually seen it, so I may be defending him and live to regret it. My baby is currently breastfeeding, not milking me into a bucket Grin
I have seen the clip and A. what the hell, is this a debate? entertainment? Hmm B from reading this, it sounds like he responded to the turn of phrase rather than the concept of breastfeeding.. agreed!

I’m not Scofield’s biggest fan but I don’t see the issue. I think breast feeding is great, it should always be encouraged etc, but if someone referred to it as milking or being milked, I’d probably make a face too. It’s never referred to as that and is a phrase designed to promote a response IMO.

When I read an OP I thought it was something totally unacceptable but after seeing the video I think they simply replied to Camilla's comment for ''being milked'' by her children.

I'm proper laughing at posters who cannot see any reason at all why the subject of cows being milked might seem relevant to a breastfeeding mother.

Cloverglens · 09/02/2021 16:02

Don't think it warrents a complaint, bit of an overreaction. Move on, more important things to focus on 🙂

Except Camilla Tominey isn’t a breastfeeding mother. It had no relevance to the story whatsoever

@AnneLovesGilbert

It’s impossible to have a sensible discussion about breastfeeding as anything other than enthusiasm for it is used as evidence of attacking the concept of breastfeeding.

At the risk of engaging with a deliberately goady comment, what sort of sensible discussion would you like to have which suggests the concept of breastfeeding isn’t positive? I’m sure you’re aware it’s the biologically normal way in which a human infant is fed, therefore both positive and sensible.

It actually wasn’t meant to be goady, I breastfed my children happily for a long time and defend any women’s right to do so. I also despair at the lack of support and volume of disinformation out there about it, My intention in posting was to make the point that it’s nigh on impossible to have a nuanced debate about breastfeeding as any hint of not being positive about it and you’re accused of being anti breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding isn’t always positive and sensible for everyone. But that’s not what I’m interested I debating as I know I’ll just get pounced on and accused of making goady comments.
