Who's BU? Paying for a messed up order

We are purchasing a new build property and we sourced quotes for granite worktops in the kitchen and the utility. We decided against ordering for the utility due to cost and went ahead with just the kitchen.

I had an email from our sales rep this morning to say that the wrong quote was actioned, and granite for both the kitchen and utility has been delivered. Our original quote to add it on in the utility was for £875, and they've said as a good will gesture if we want the granite they will only ask to recoup £375 towards it.

I'm happy to pay, we did want it and just didn't want to pay out that much more for such a small room. £375 seems more reasonable for the size of our utility - might aswell?

Dh is insisting it's their error, we've ordered a specific granite that's useless to the developers and wants to fight to get it for free. I'm worried in doing so we'll sour our relationship with the developer and possibly get the granite in there at all.

Who's BU?

I'd go for the developer's offer. It's exactly the colour you wanted, matching for your kitchen & utility room. It's been delivered, and it's ready to fit. They're offering a 50% discount as a good will gesture to make up for their mistake. I would accept with the condition that they make your job a priority & get it fitted asap!

Glad you got them both, @CalaBallas!
I'd definitely prefer the matching 'set', too.

@Tmizi, BU = Being Unreasonable
Who's BU? means Who's Being Unreasonable....

Id go back with a counter offer, husband if he starts ranting at builders will just make them remove it in my opinion, yes its their mistake but if someone started saying i want it for free id just take it out, builders can always find someone who will want it, believe me i worked for a builder for over 30 years.

Clymene · 11/02/2021 10:41

The OP has already paid for it

HoneyNutLoop · 11/02/2021 15:11

Here’s a question - hubby wants the granite for free, but how much were you quoted for the original worktops? Is it the cost of the original worktops +375, or is the cost of the original worktops you’d planned on deducted and you pay 375 instead? Make sense?

Tzimi · 12/02/2021 07:32

@CalaBallas Great, glad you accepted the offer! I don't think you'll regret it.

I’m always baffled when people don’t RTFT, or at the very least, filter the thread to get the OP’s posts only.

I know. And they always get pissy when you mention it too.
NewPapaGuinea · 12/02/2021 08:19

Good decision. In good time you’ll be thinking I’m so glad we paid a relatively small one off amount, because the flip side is the constant regret you didn’t everytime you use the utility room (or I would anyway)

C0mm0nsense · 20/02/2021 20:16

I can see it from all views.

How about see if you can negotiate the price for the utility piece? I think they might call your bluff otherwise and take it away. Could maybe say something like “we’d like it but it’s still a fair bit more than we could afford. If you could do it for £200 I think we could manage that?”
