I know we’re all fed up of the current situation but a lot of posts lately don’t seem to be helping much

There’s always been those who can’t be arsed to read a thread and pile in with their opinion after 20 pages, having only read the OP and totally failing to recognised things have probably moved on

But now it’s common place for the first post on any thread about anything in the news to be ‘Source?’

No further comment - just that demand - implication being it’s bullshit

Likewise on threads where posters are having a rough time they get bombarded with people @ing them so their inbox will be full of messages

If the OP wants to read the messages, they can just return to the thread but the posters who do the @ing seem to have some need to be noticed

People also seem to get really arsey straight away too

It’s really quite depressing

Not everyone has the time to read 20 pages of a thread before "piling in" with their opinion

But if there has been 20 pages of discussion, and you have absolutely no idea what has been said as you haven’t read it, why do you think your opinion is either relevant or welcome?

@MarieIVanArkleStinks

“My partner had sex with me seventy times in a row when I said no. Was it rape?”

Aware that this post will likely be deleted and I'll also be deleted for reposting it. But I'm not letting this one pass unchallenged. Does the PP who posted this comment have even the slightest inkling as to how offensive it is?

Agree.

'Oh this tiresome person bothering me about the abuse they're suffering. When really I'm the one who's really suffering having to read their silly post'

So fucking cold.

Butterflyfluff · 07/02/2021 18:07

Why do you need to read the thread? I rarely do (haven't done here). The point of the forum is to give your opinion on whether the view expressed in the first post is reasonable.

I guess this post sums up the problem

I thought most of us were here to engage in discussion and talk about different things

Others, it would seem, are just here to inflict their views on the rest of us, and they’re not at all bothered about discussions, just so long as they’ve ‘stuck their oar in’

How depressing

Yes... and no.

Because quite often you will find that additional posts further on in the thread from the OP mean that simply replying to the first post would no longer be relevant, because since the thread started, situation X has changed to situation Y.

morninglive · 07/02/2021 18:23

Maybe start a thread asking 'why do OPs drip feed?'

Write out everything and then just reply to the replies

Because sometimes the OP asks for advice, and it isn't necessarily a drip feed. I remember one thread some time ago where the OP mentioned they hadn't heard from a friend for several days, and should they report it to the police. There were a lot of replies and about a day later the OP came back to the thread and said that the police had gone round, broken in to their home and found her friend had passed away.

Even after that, there were still people posting after having read the first post and not the sad update.

What I don’t understand Is why there isn’t an option to see all the OPs updates. You can’t expect people to read 20 pages of chat but it would help later posters be relevant.

Or does this feature exist and I haven’t found it? Grin

It absolutely exists. This screengrab is from the OP of this thread. You have been able to highlight OP’s posts for a long time but you can now jump between them or see them all on one page.

There is. The ‘see all’ option underneath the OP
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/02/2021 18:58

I thought it stated going bad when posters started to asterisk out swearing.

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2021 19:02

Nobody cares about 'etiquette'. You have to learn to not care so much.

I have the @ thing turned off and hide a lot of threads.

evouk · 07/02/2021 19:04

It doesn't help when so many threads on here are started and the main pieces of info are left out but the op is asking for opinions still

Looks like the other responders don't get sarcasm haha.
