Is it actually worth bothering selling decent quality kids clothes on ebay?

Got loads of nice stuff some barely worn. I've never been on ebay. Is it worth bothering?

In my personal experience no it isn't, I prefer to pass them on to family and friends for the very little profit on Ebay plus fees / scammers.

AllTheCakes · 07/02/2021 09:47

If you have the time and are happy to list and pick it, it’s a doddle. Good way recoup some of the money you have spent.

Oysterbabe · 07/02/2021 09:49

I can't be fucked with it and would just give them all to a charity shop but my husband is doing it and has sold a lot for pretty good prices.

CrazyOldBagLady · 07/02/2021 09:49

I think like everything it depends on the brands and how sought after they are. I've seen some items go for more than they originally retailed because they were scandi items in a discontinued print. This isn't the norm of course. If you can be bothered sorting into small lots you will get more. There are also selling groups on Facebook that people seem to do quite well with. Look for ones that are for the brands you want to sell.

shouldistop · 07/02/2021 09:52

I just pass on old kids clothes or put them as bundles for free on marketplace

farwin · 07/02/2021 09:53

Some brands sell well, high street stuff not so.
I sell DCs clothes from Boden, Frugi, White Stuff, Nike and get decent money.

Lemons1571 · 07/02/2021 09:56

I prefer free sites such as Facebook marketplace or gumtree. eBay fees can erode any small profits you make.

raskolnikova · 07/02/2021 09:56

Well I like browsing eBay for clothes for myself and my daughter, although I wouldn't bother listing any unless it was certain brands in good condition.

BikeRunSki · 07/02/2021 09:57

I’ve had much more luck recently selling stuff on FB pages - Mini Boden and Joules prelobhg

Snally82 · 07/02/2021 09:57

I just bought a small bundle containing 2 items from The Little White Company, 1 from Zara and 1 from Boden. It was about £10... barely worth it as a seller. I’ve bought individual items (same companies) for as little as £1.00

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 07/02/2021 10:02

Facebook marketplace for me now. I don't sell anything on eBay because I think they treat sellers badly. I don't buy on there because postage fees are ridiculous sometimes.
Love the convenience of FB marketplace and its free.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 07/02/2021 10:02

I have sold sone stuff on local Facebook pages. But best to sell as a bundle for say ten or fifteen pounds depends on number of items. Trying to chase people for individual items is not worth the effort. I have had people arrive on our doorstep nit picking through clothes and leaving individual bits that they didn't want... too much hassle, better get rid in one!

TattiePants · 07/02/2021 10:05

I’ve been having an ongoing clear out since November via EBay and Facebook groups and I’ve made over £1300 so far. Granted that wasn’t all children’s clothes but good quality brands such as Boden, Polarn O Pyret and Joules sell well.

Dogsarehairy · 07/02/2021 10:23

What until a £1 maximum fees selling fee date- they vary by person- usually Friday-monday- we have 1 this week

Used fixed listings with offers- not auctions. When people watch you can make them an offer- use this- works really well

I have 10,000 positive feedback. Ebay is really poor for sales and has been since about 6 months before covid

Too full of Chinese carp to see what you want- Royal mail prices have gone up a lot and selling overseas is hard- shipping to the Usa almost doubled last year

But worth a go-just be realistic on price.

BlueTimes · 07/02/2021 10:25

I think a large problem is the buyers use Facebook Marketplace or selling groups over eBay now anyway so even if you do have something decent, there are fewer people browsing.

dinosforall · 07/02/2021 10:25

IME no (particularly sizes under a year) unless you are absolutely desperate for cash or they are particularly sought-after brands.

hammeringinmyhead · 07/02/2021 10:25

Frugi, Maxomorra, Little Green Radicals, JojoMamanBebe yes - not Next or H&M, even if never worn.

Caterinaballerina · 07/02/2021 10:32

I do it in bundles, not necessarily for the money but the comfort it’s definitely getting re-used.

CycleWoman · 07/02/2021 10:42

If you are just happy to get rid of it and don’t have massive expectations about profit then it’s fine. The only thing I find that sells well is Joules, Boden etc. I’m struggling to shift brand new Next stuff with tags on.

As someone mentioned, delivery costs are quite expensive at the moment, especially if you send it tracked, so I don’t think people want to spend £3-4 on delivery for an item that costs the same!

MarshmallowsOnToast · 07/02/2021 10:50

Try Vinted.

It's really easy to use, you pay nothing to list and buyer pays the fees.

I've sold stuff & it was really problem free.

The buyer pays for the shipping label which gets sent to you, you just stick it on & drop it off. Once confirmed it's arrived the money is out in your account which you can transfer to your bank.

I've also bought quite a few baby clothes from there too. I'm not fussed about designer brands. Have had some nice Sainsburys, Asda & H&M stuff. If you price it right, you'll have interest.

RuggeryBuggery · 07/02/2021 10:57

The jojo maman Bebe specific Facebook selling group has been good for me in the past, better than eBay in general

Needsomethingtoread · 07/02/2021 11:01

I only buy party dresses or nice summer dresses on eBay. Not paying £30 for a dress that my 5 year old will spill spag Bol down in a day. Wouldn’t buy just normal tshirts as I’d just grab at Asda/Morrison’s/Sainsbury’s etc

wanderlove · 07/02/2021 11:33

I like it as a way to not be throwing stuff away if it's got life in it and making a bit of pocket money. I try and see it as anything made is a bonus and some things go for loads and surprise me whereas other people get a steal! I'm decluttering at the moment and have made about £200 in thr last month. Lots just on little bits they sell for a couple of quid. I do have a post office about 200m from my door though which makes the faff a bit easier

pronxcessxo · 07/02/2021 11:50

agree with PP about vinted
