to not want comments when buying a pregnancy test

Bought a pregnancy test today and was completely taken aback when the lady at the till asked me if it would be good or bad news and then proceeded to ask how many children I already had and how sure I was!

I made some kind of noncommital response but I was really embarrassed. I can't help to think that when you buy intimate things the cashier should know better than to comment.

How bloomin nosey! Why would you say anything to a woman (or man, dh has bought a few!)buying a pregnancy test fgs.

I have had chemist say in loud voice 'don't forget to use extra protection for sex when taking this pills as they do affect the pill' in the middle of quiet chemist full of people!

Yummers · 07/11/2007 15:33

god how insensitive of her- but yes having worked ona till myself, you do end up wondering about the things you sell to people and losing all sense of perspective on occasion

i once signed someone else's credit card reciept!!! i was only 18 but that's no excuse...

jumpyjan · 07/11/2007 15:37

Unbelievable! How nosey!

elasticwoman - surely you need to find out asap so you can stop eating/drinking potentially harmful things to the baby?

spugs · 08/11/2007 15:25

this isnt a pregnancy test story but it is someone opening there gob and saying something totally inapropriate. im a teacher and the children in my class realised i was pregnant a couple of weeks ago. one of the parents when i next saw her said "aw are you disappointed then"!!!!!!! silly cow. of course me being the proffesional i am couldnt take her head off and had to just say no of course not

Interesting view, nappy addict. Even with a positive pg test at the earliest opportunity, you will then have been pg for some time, so any changes you make will be a bit late. Speaking personally, my body wouldn't let me drink coffee or alcohol or eat chocolate in early pregnancy and as I knew that conception was a possibility before it happened, I tailored my lifestyle accordingly (ie took folic acid, but otherwise didn't change much).

But I remember that the OP wasn't expecting to be pg, she just wanted to eliminate it as a reason for throwing up.

I still think it's a bit of a waste of money. What will be will be. And even if this is not the main thrust of the thread I still don't see why I shouldn't say so.

Where does it say the test was £10? I have never paid this much for a test!

irises · 09/11/2007 12:21

My secretary was once fretting that she might be preg but didn't want to go to the chemist next to the office in case she saw someone she knew so I went and bought it for her.

I was 7 months preg at the time and massive. The assistant, to her credit, didn't bat an eyelid.

Elasticwoman · 09/11/2007 16:43

Maybe they have got cheaper since I last bought one!

bookofthedeadmum · 09/11/2007 21:17

£2.99 in Tescos or £3.88 for a pack of two .

Mind my test didn't give a result so perhaps it's not such great value after all .

nappyaddict · 11/11/2007 12:36

took at the earliest oppurtunity you would only have been pregnant for 2 weeks. if you wait until you actually start showing/having symptoms you could be 3 months or even more. wasn't saying you shouldn't mention it - just thought it was a bit impractical especially when you can get tests as cheap as a £1.
