Anyone elses family not getting out for daily walks?

That really, i see so many people out during the week, on the streets probably because its all we can do! Grin lots of photos on Facebook, but we barely get out, between home learning and my husband wfh, by the time the kids are done working they don't want to would rather game as they can talk to their friends via headset, i suppose the social aspect is more appealing than a walk with mum! i end up often its just me and the pram.
Used to enjoy the woods but reports of wierdos have put me off.
we only really get ouy for walks at weekends, anyone else like this? or is just me?
YANBU-im like this too,
or
YABU were out every day!

I love walking and spent most days out last summer, walking between 7 and 15 miles, but not at the moment, ds hates being in his buggy for any length of time and won't walk far, so the best I can do is a walk around the block... to be honest it's the dullest thing going. It's miserable and pretty dark in the evenings when dh finishes work, so we don't go then.

zingally · 05/02/2021 14:51

In lockdown 1 we went for a walk every day. My 2's nursery was closed to start with, so we had to get out really (the garden is only so good). This time though, the children have been in nursery 4 days a week throughout, DH works out the home full time and I'm a pharmacist 3 days a week.
Apart from the kids extra-curriculars being closed, and not being able to see friends and family so readily, this lockdown has been less of an event. We have been on maybe 3 walks!

jgb129 · 05/02/2021 14:53

We try and get out for a little walk every day which is easy as we have a dog that needs walking but long family certainly do not happen every day. By the time everything is done it’s usually tea time then it’s dark. It was easier last year with the better weather.

LadyMayoGoodway · 05/02/2021 14:53

No, i think a lot are still furloughed though we both wk, toddlers in childcare so only go out on a weekend, and only then if the weather’s ok. Some people seem to think the daily walk is a government decree though 😂.

I run it’s what I do, think I’m pretty resilient but Jesus last weekend here it was unbearable had to turn back it was so cold, took your breath away, yet there were still people out struggling on. Why?!?

bloodyhairy · 05/02/2021 14:54

Me and my girls hardly go out at all Blush The homeschooling/work/chores all take so long, and we're lazy homebodies and not outdoorsy anyway.
Don't get me wrong though, I do feel guilt, and think that we should be out doing more.

PolarnOPirate · 05/02/2021 14:55

I try but DS1 has to be dragged out kicking and screaming - he’s so lethargic and sad. DS2 is 3 and a bit more biddable but he’s a huge homebody. Me and DH get out most days.

bathorshower · 05/02/2021 15:07

We're out every day, whatever the weather - DD's behaviour is much better for it, and she's more likely to sleep.

We will bin off the homeschooling (or reschedule it) to get out - it's not live lessons anyway. Stopping (primary aged) DD's mental health declining any more is way more important right now than being able to describe all the features of a river....

peboh · 05/02/2021 15:09

We don't go out everyday. It's only me and two year old during the week as dh is at work, and I didn't take her out daily before lockdown so I'm not starting now.
She enjoys being at home and playing with her toys, she likes walking so I try to get out a couple of times a week, but especially during winter we've probably stayed home more than we've gone out because the weather has just been awful.

GreenSlide · 05/02/2021 15:09

We've hardly been out in weeks, it either seems to be raining or snowing all day every day at the minute.

Norwayreally · 05/02/2021 15:10

I try to get out every day, it doesn’t always happen. We luckily have large fields, a playground and basketball courts behind our house so we utilise those. The DC never seem to get bored but I definitely do Grin.

MedusasBadHairDay · 05/02/2021 15:12

DH gets home too late to take the kids on walks, and I'm not able to walk for more than a few minutes without pain. So, nope, no daily walks here.

CoodleMoodle · 05/02/2021 15:13

Nope. DS(2) goes to preschool two mornings and one afternoon a week, and I usually insist DD(6) comes to either drop off or pick up once per day. Other than that, we're in most of the time. We do the bare minimum of homeschooling (no live lessons offered) and then they do whatever they want.

We lucky enough to have a garden and if it's nice I chuck them out there for a bit! None of us enjoy the cold, the wet, or the mud. In the late Spring/Summer last year we were out every day, either walking or in the garden, or both. We also used to go out at the weekend for a walk with DH, otherwise he'd never get out.

Mudmudingloriousmud · 05/02/2021 15:13

goodness no!! even weekends are a push

speaksofty · 05/02/2021 15:14

If I ever have do a ‘walk’ again it will be too soon. I can almost feel hives break out at the mere mention of a bloody walk. It’s literally a banned word here. Aimless wondering around in mud with the rain lashing down is not my idea of fun!
Not now, not ever.

MintyMabel · 05/02/2021 15:15

We try to walk at least every morning before we start but have been hampered by the weather of late. If we can we do an evening walk too. It's usually about 15 minutes for each walk so easy to work in to a day.

We all notice if we've skipped too many days.

Wankerchief · 05/02/2021 15:15

Yr5 son is expected on 3 teams calls aday and online 9-3 and i leave got work at 4 do it leaves very little time in the week.
I did email the school about it as the at school kids get outdoors time but i was met with a rant about how theve gone to the trouble of creating a schedule snd people like mr were trying to derail it

CharlotteRose90 · 05/02/2021 15:17

Thank god I’ve got a dog. We go out with him 2 or 3 times a day with my family. It’s the only thing getting me out of lockdown. I shielded for most of it and now I’m making the most of it.

ShinyGreenElephant · 05/02/2021 15:20

I take the 2yo out every day but DD11 doesn't come if its raining and I think that's fair enough. If the weather is grim we just do 10-15 mins but it makes us all feel much better. If its sunny we go the park, beach or woods for at least an hour and drag DD11 out too - she misses live lessons but they mostly consist of other kids unmuting themselves and shouting THIS IS SHIT and the teacher explaining the same point over and over until there's no time left to actually complete the work. So the minute the sun comes out were all out the house like a shot

mootymoo · 05/02/2021 15:33

Only at weekends at the moment, dd rarely goes out at all, she's an adult and decided to be nocturnal Smile

Would you normally be going for walks in midwinter? I wouldn't so I don't. I nip to the shops midweek for bread etc that's all

Mol1628 · 05/02/2021 15:35

Mine are 8 and 6 and we go out pretty much every day. If not every day then it’s every other day. They are like dogs and need a run out every day. Some days it’s just 10-15 minutes round the block and others we can be out for 2/3 hours. Their behaviour, sleep pattern and just their general moods are so so much better when they get out.

MintyMabel · 05/02/2021 15:42

If I ever have do a ‘walk’ again it will be too soon

Reminded me of this.

MintyMabel · 05/02/2021 15:43

Would you normally be going for walks in midwinter?

I would walk 15 minutes twice a day as part of my commute, in all weathers so I try to do the same even through I'm WFH

Comefromaway · 05/02/2021 15:45

It's dark by the time I get home from work and by the time dd and dh finish college (one teaching, one learning). Dd now has one wellbeing afternoon a week off so she will sometimes go for a walk then. Ds had a disaster on his last walk last week. He was facetiming his girlfriend and dropped his phone inti the stream!

staydazzling · 05/02/2021 16:59

you're not alone @bloodyhairy! theyd much rather game and with a newborn to contend with, im can be bothered even less!!

Ruddyfedup · 05/02/2021 17:06

Nope, by the time weve worked around breakfast, getting dressed, naps, school work, lunch etc theres no point, takes me 20 plus minutes to get to the point of actually getting them and myself out the door, itd be getting dark and time to come back
