To throw away the chicken every week?

I know IABU but I need to be shamed so I start doing something about it!
Family of 4, we have a roast chicken every week, we eat the breast meat and then I throw away the rest every week, I hate doing it but I'm too lazy and unimaginative to think of what to do with the rest of it!
Please shame me and tell me what you do with yours, I'd love to make it stretch to another meal!

That sounds smashing. If it doesn't jelly it ain't proper😁 I have fear of pressure cookers so I am on a slowcooker. Throw in some lamb bones sometimes (like broken leg bone). Amazing

The new pressure cookers are amazing.

There is a whole generation out there that are terrified of the old ones that used to go mental in the kitchen whistling 🤣😳.

My husband used to be terrified and I was fairly nervous myself 🤣

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 11:53

Ohhh yes mine gets delightfully jellied. I cook it down for at least 3 hours on a good boil, then simmer gently for at least another hour, usually 2.

You should be embarrassed and ashamed!!! There's so many people in the UK going hungry!!!! Let alone around the world Hmm

Furries · 11/02/2021 12:09

@grey12 - I think that a week after posting, the OP has already picked up this sentiment and is going to amend her ways!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/02/2021 12:13

@billy1966 ours exploded when I was very young so whole family doesn't trust them 😂😂
I am fine with my slow ways. I like when house smells like soup for 2 days. It's always different as well because it's different scraps going into it and different herbs😁 Broth is life.
Also good for digestive system and yes, they found that chicken soup does indeed help with colds! Liquid magic

grey12 · 11/02/2021 13:26

@Furries someone who admits to throwing away half a chicken several times needs to be reminded of how selfish their behaviour is maybe several times as well!!

😱how terrifying.

The Chinese call broth penicillin, great for protecting your lungs, full of goodness.

I often freeze a carcass and then do a couple together if I don't have time.
Very handy if you don't have time to deal with it there and then.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/02/2021 14:41

I do the same @billy1966 and keep a bag in a freezer for peels and ends of veg. Except things like cabbage or broccoli. Too strong flavour, but baisc veggies and various bones go in and voilà. Tasty broth😁 I freeze the broth in portions as well, usually make about 7-8

billy1966 · 11/02/2021 14:49

Great idea to freeze the veg peelings👏

Apparently a curried veg soup with lots of turmeric is the best one to have if you feel unwell.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/02/2021 11:22

ate all the gorgeous crispy skin to myself

The only bit I want . . .

Fair enough!

Terrible pic I know!
After a roast I stripped all the meat off and todays meal was chicken curry using all the meat.
It made way too much but as I'd already heated it up twice I didn't want to do it again so we had very large portions! Next time I'll save some and it'll do a couple of us for another meal or a lunch 😁

My mind is blown at family of 4, or indeed 2 teens sharing one chicken breast. Wow. My teen boys wolf a chicken breast and at least a thigh (with copious amounts of veg and spuds and pudding) if given the chance and then have a huge bowl of granola an hour later - Grin.

Fyi, I regularly roast two chickens and then strip. We are not huge meat eaters so i will halve what I strip and would throw it in the freezer. So handy to quickly defrost and throw in a fast curry sauce or a Chinese sauce. So handy.

OK, I haven't attached pics before so bear with me.

I told Dh and the dc that you all thought that I was starving them so they suggested that next time we had a magic chicken I post pics, so here goes.

Sundays roast, Tuesdays stir fry and last nights curry with homemade nan bread as served to dh. Granted my presentation is crap. I can only post 3 pics so left out the fajitas from Monday.
