No I won’t be, but no doubt I’ll see all of the local virtue signallers who have clapped, because if it’s anything like last year they’ll upload videos of themselves and their family doing so onto our local community Facebook page just to make sure everyone knows they did it - cringe!

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 15:32

Nobody will give a shiny shit if you don't.

Bullshit. Plenty of people are judgmental about this, it's just part of the 'holier than thou' act to pretend they're not.

These threads make me laugh how the call people who clap "virtue signallers" but fail to see that they seeming to think they're being edgy and "sticking it to the man" by saying "well I'm not" is just as

Some want to 'stick it to Boris' but in general most of those who don't clap just see it for the facade it is. If you want to clap, go ahead. Its a completely meaningless event under the pretence of 'togetherness' though. Thoughts, prays and be kind. Much empty rhetoric, but whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

RaininSummer · 03/02/2021 15:34

No.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 03/02/2021 15:35

No, because it's absolute nonsense.

Twinkie01 · 03/02/2021 15:36

VickyEadieofThigh I was replying to a reply further up.

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 15:37

Op of the thread you are referring to doesn't give a shit about captain Tom's death

That's a rather melodramatic way to put it. The man did a nice thing, but again it's regressing into Diana syndrome. It seems the only correct reaction is to be devastated and heartbroken, or shut up. It's quite true that this government is trying to make gains from it, as they were at the time he walked around his patio. More than fair if you want to ignore that bit but most people know what Johnson is up to here - I'd put a good bet on he's been watching Blair's 'People's Princess' speech for inspiration for his announcement later....

x2boys · 03/02/2021 15:39

If you are going to quote me at least use the entire quote @BrumBoo don't just pick bits out to suit your own narrative 🙄

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 15:40

I'm not sure where you got that from@BrumBoo,but these incessant threads about not clapping are even more irritating than the actual clapping ,and let's face the Op of the thread you are referring to doesn't give a shit about captain Tom's death ,they just want to use to have a go at Boris and Co ,pretty immature .

What do you feel I took out of context on my previous post, @x2boys?

LouLou789 · 03/02/2021 15:40

Big respect to Captain Tom, but I’m sick of clapping and anyway I have a 6pm client.

Blacktothepink · 03/02/2021 15:41

Non

DynamoKev · 03/02/2021 15:44

Boris can fuck off.

Captain Tom seemed like a decent chap though.

SnowyPetals · 03/02/2021 15:45

No I won't be clapping. I just want normality, then I might manage a clap!

Borogroves · 03/02/2021 15:46

@forinborin

I will be but only because a neighbour was quite unpleasant to me for not clapping for NHS during the spring lockdown.
@forinborin All the more reason not to. Don't let yourself be browbeaten into doing something you don't want to do.
Thislittlefinger123 · 03/02/2021 15:47

Erm, nope. It's sad he's died of course, but I don't see the need to clap for him. That would be a little odd.

jetadore · 03/02/2021 15:49

@LadyFlumpalot

No, I won't. I refuse to contribute to a thought pattern that makes it ok and expected that 99 year old men have to fund raise for the NHS when the government should be the ones funding it properly.
Spot on. Shouldn't need fundraising from any of us.
JADS · 03/02/2021 15:51

Capt Tom did not raise money for the NHS, he raised it for NHS charities. Each hospital has a charity associated with it. The money raised at our hospital goes towards funding research and improving patient experience so tarting up waiting rooms, toys and books for kids in hospital etc.

The NHS have unsurprising rolled out the vaccine program just fine. Track and Trace is run by a private company hence it is shite.

Remember how G4 couldn't run the Olympics, so the armed forces stepped in?

I won't be clapping Capt Tom just because Bozo tells me to. I respect Capt Tom's achievement and he seemed like a lovely man but the cynic in me knows he is only famous because of his daughter and her PR moves. Plenty of others have done things that are similar (I have a friend whose disabled child did a similar thing) with the glossy PR thing.

RIP Capt Tom.

HOkieCOkie · 03/02/2021 15:52

No as I’ll be at work and it’s dinner time.

PhatPhanny · 03/02/2021 15:52

Theres so many happy people on this post, I cant handle it 😉

ShemShem · 03/02/2021 15:53

Nope

I'm not going to join the virtue signal crowd and never will

TwirpingBird · 03/02/2021 15:55

I clapped for the nhs for a while, until it became a way of neighbours judging how virtuous you are, or not. I grew to despise it. Now I dont care if my neighbours judge me. No way am I clapping awkwardly to thin air.

I will light a candle for his family, and all the others who lost people today, many before their time.

Moonbabyskalimba · 03/02/2021 15:55

No. He was a lovely man who did a wonderful thing, but he is one of more than 100000 who have died. Are we clapping for them all?

Impatiens · 03/02/2021 15:56

Apparently his family requested this NOT to be done?

I really admire Tom, he set a great example of optimism and making the most of life but, no, I'm not going to be part of Johnson trying to piggy-back on someone else's achievements in a shameless attempt to boost his ratings.

forinborin · 03/02/2021 15:57

@Borogroves

Well, these people are also parents from the school my children attend, and we are the only foreign family on the street... I'd much better not stick my head out. I was asked whether I am able to read or comprehend news in English during the first lockdown (if so, why am I not out there clapping?), I don't want to hear anything like that ever again.

Porcupineintherough · 03/02/2021 15:58

I will be lighting a candle for him, and another for my friend's mum who died this morning.

Borogroves · 03/02/2021 16:02

@forinborin I'm sorry, your neighbours sound like horrible bulliesSad
