Justmuddlingalong · 03/02/2021 14:49

No. Much to my "we'll clap for anything" neighbours disgust, I won't be joining in.

Schoolchoicesucks · 03/02/2021 14:50

Nope. I am sure he was a very honourable man throughout his lifetime and his charitable efforts are to be appreciated and admired.

However I feel as if I must be from a different species to some, with the outpouring of grief over the death of a 100 year old man.

The clapping on doorsteps was bad enough when it wasn't a Johnson-mandated thing and was directed at showing support to all those keeping the healthcare system going.

Boris telling me to clap in appreciation of Captain Sir Tom? No chance.

Janaih · 03/02/2021 14:51

I know Bozo is incapable of reading the room but youd think someone would have told him that scheduled clapping is no longer a thing. So lockdown 1.

augustusglupe · 03/02/2021 15:03

I won't be clapping.
He was 100 years old and spent December in Barbados!! That's in no way a criticism and good for him. I hope I reach 100, if I'm still relatively fit and manage a holiday abroad with family before I go.
He was clearly a determined old man and I was a little sad last night to hear he had died.
That's it really, to build him up into a saint for walking up and down his patio, I really don't get it.

augustusglupe · 03/02/2021 15:08

Granted it was a bloody massive patio complete with swimming pool...as DH keeps pointing out...not that he's bitter or anything Grin

JaimeLeeCurtains · 03/02/2021 15:09

"Boris" can feck off.

x2boys · 03/02/2021 15:09

Do we really need yet another thread about this can't you just post on the other threads about this?

Mrsjayy · 03/02/2021 15:10

No, its mawkish and all smoke and mirrors. But each to their own.

Lunde · 03/02/2021 15:12

I don't like the fact that politicians have hijacked this

JillsFlapjacks · 03/02/2021 15:15

No, my neighbourhood doesn't do the group clapping thing. I wouldn't be out if they did anyway.

RIP Sir Tom.

forinborin · 03/02/2021 15:16

I will be but only because a neighbour was quite unpleasant to me for not clapping for NHS during the spring lockdown.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 03/02/2021 15:18

I understood that his family had asked people not to clap?

x2boys · 03/02/2021 15:21

Have they @ArosAdraDrosDolig? I heard something on the radio ( I was only half listening) that his entire village is awash with flowers in his memory .

ItsNotAlrightButItsOkay · 03/02/2021 15:22

I will be paying my respects in the comfort of my own home. ❤

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 15:22

@x2boys

Do we really need yet another thread about this can't you just post on the other threads about this?
One of the other threads where posters like yourself have already taken over to tell us that our views are not wanted, and if we're not clapping/agreeing with the circus show then we have no option?

This one is far less of a bun fight, thanks all the same.

BrumBoo · 03/02/2021 15:22

That's should be opinion not option

notalwaysalondoner · 03/02/2021 15:23

A very old man who did a wonderful thing has died. I’m pleased he gave the nation something positive to focus on but thousands of unsung heroes die every day. I won’t be clapping.

Treaclepie19 · 03/02/2021 15:23

@Sheleg

All this bloody clapping. Are we a nation of seals? What happened to a respectful silence for contemplation.
This made me laugh and the sleeping baby stir🙈 Agreed.
littlepattilou · 03/02/2021 15:24

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 🥱

BooBahBoo · 03/02/2021 15:26

No. Didn’t do any of the clapping. It’s so false. Very much “look neighbours look how great I am”. No thanks.

You can reflect and show respect in private without virtue signalling.

Quaagars · 03/02/2021 15:28

So just don't then
Nobody will give a shiny shit if you don't.
If they do, don;t give them the headspace.
These threads make me laugh how the call people who clap "virtue signallers" but fail to see that they seeming to think they're being edgy and "sticking it to the man" by saying "well I'm not" is just as Hmm
Grin
Clap or don't.

BeakyWinder · 03/02/2021 15:30

No.

x2boys · 03/02/2021 15:30

I'm not sure where you got that from @BrumBoo ,but these incessant threads about not clapping are even more irritating than the actual clapping ,and let's face the Op of the thread you are referring to doesn't give a shit about captain Tom's death ,they just want to use to have a go at Boris and Co ,pretty immature .

UnsureJan21 · 03/02/2021 15:30

No, I think they are using his death and milking it as press to divert attention from themselves.

It’s an embarrassment that the NHS needs people to fundraise - this governments embarrassment.

It’s an embarrassment that they’ve got the cheek to use the man death as propaganda given he died in a hospital, yes from pneumonia, but with the added complications of this virus which he caught in a hospital!

This government had failed us all, Captain Tom included, 100 or not.

Beggars belief how low these charlatans will sink it truly does!

Crunchymum · 03/02/2021 15:32

Is it clapping or silence?

Is it tonight or tomorrow?

Such important questions.
