Can I pick ur brains re medical issue

I’ve had ever increasingly painful chest, and abdominal pain for 5-6 days. No pain in pelvis, but do have pain in both shoulders. Currently in hospital since Monday am and am under surgical team. So far they can find absolutely no cause for the pain. They have so far done the following tests and everything fine. ECG, chest X-ray, bloods, ct scan, internal scan of ovaries as slight possibility of swollen Fallopian tube and ovary indicated on ct scan yesterday but that was ruled out by internal ultrasound this morning. So now I’m back under surgical team again.
What on earth could possibly be causing pain? What is likely to be their next move if they can’t find a source of pain? Hard to get talking to surgical as they are inconveniently in surgery all day. Had an awful night of pain last night until they eventually gave me 2 paracetamol and 2 dihydrocodeine at 5 or 6 and again at 12 which has brought pain down to about a 3 out of 10. Will they send me home with pain relief if can’t find cause?
Better yet, anyone want to play at Dr. House and diagnose me?

Did they check your liver and gallbladder? For gallstones?

bellropes · 02/02/2021 13:58

How is your digestion?

I'm assuming they've checked for pancreatitis via the bloods they've done. You can also have bile duct pain without any gallstones being present in the gallbladder.

DayBath · 02/02/2021 14:02

Abdominal migraine? I remember last time I was in hospital the lady in the next bed had all sorts of tests with similar symptoms and that was her eventual diagnosis, it can be a process of elimination.

DayBath · 02/02/2021 14:03

If you've already had gallbladder removed it could be Sphincter of Oddi syndrome. Often triggered by opioids and painkillers and not often known about by doctors.

DayBath · 02/02/2021 14:07

Another random idea but perhaps the chest pain is something mechanical like precordial catch syndrome and the abdominal pain is either referred or stress from it? Just a wild stab in the dark.

I'm fairly sure most Drs will know about this. I'm a vet and I've heard about it
DayBath · 02/02/2021 14:25

Yes you would think they should know @BadEyeBri, but my experience is very much 50/50, both with GPs and hospital consultants. A relative has it and has been repeatedly prescribed the medication that triggers it for unrelated reasons only for doctors to scratch their head and look bewildered as to why she was suddenly writhing around screaming. When being pro-active and asking for alternative meds we are often met with confused stares as they don't get why it would be a problem. Hmm

Asthesayinggoes · 02/02/2021 14:30

Sorry doc came in there now. Ruled out anything gynae, pancreas or liver related. Ct scan showed nothing of interest. Lungs ruled out. Infection ruled out. Heart ruled out. So.. they’re going to do an abdominal ultrasound to look at gallbladder now as ct scan not best for looking at it apparently. I’ve had more tests than a lab rat 👨‍⚕️🏥🚑👩‍⚕️😣🤔

Gallbladder still present

Well at least you're getting a full MOT while you're in there! Fingers crossed they can work it out x

That would be a nasty diagnosis in my view as it’s what they diagnose when they can’t find a problem!

Don't let them fob you off if they don't find stones. It can still be gallbladder related. They should be able to tell if they examine you properly.

Asthesayinggoes · 02/02/2021 16:42

Well the verdict is in. Gallstones

Progress

73kittycat73 · 02/02/2021 17:21

Hiatus Hernia? My mum has one (Is being operated on Tomorrow.) and it hurt her chest and stomach.
Good luck, I hope you get it sorted soon! Flowers

Lancrelady80 · 02/02/2021 17:49

Gallstones ☹ You have my sympathy. Worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Needed morphine just to take the edge off it.

Hope they're going to sort you out sharpish and not mess you around.

tropicalwaterdiver · 02/02/2021 17:50

Glad you had it diagnosed.

Nearlythere1 · 02/02/2021 17:57

Chest pain could be something called Costochondritis. It's inflammation of cartilage between ribs. When it happened to me I thought I was having a heart attack or my liver was failing, the pain could be all over, right in the centre, round by back, at the sides, deep or sharp. Turns out I was overstretching when doing front crawl regularly.

BonnieDundee · 02/02/2021 17:57

Glad you have a diagnosis. Sorry its gallstones. Sounds painful Flowers

Nearlythere1 · 02/02/2021 18:02

Oh no, sorry, I missed the diagnosis - hope you're ok!

Iooselipssinkships · 02/02/2021 18:07

No wonder you're in pain OP. When I had gallbladder stones it was horrific, I was clawing at the floor in my bathroom. At one point I was given ketamine because morphine wasn't touching it, then had to have emergency surgery because they couldn't keep the pain under control. Glad they've found the source now though for you and hope they give you some stronger pain relief.

@BadEyeBri it's rare and difficult to diagnose, I have type 1, there are three types
MissSmiley · 02/02/2021 18:44

@Asthesayinggoes hope you feel better soon, sympathy to you, gall bladder pain is horrible

Pinkdelight3 · 02/02/2021 19:12

Crazy how long it takes to diagnose that. I had attacks for nearly two years, classic symptoms, classic type (fat/female/fair/forties/fertile) and still took umpteen encounters with medics to figure it out.

Glad it's been identified at least and highly recommend removal even if you have to pay for it. It only gets worse and the lists can be long.

Mostlylurkingiam · 04/02/2021 05:37

You think a few randoms on mumsnet can diagnose you when a medical team and many tests can't?!
