To think using a supermarket trolley to take your shopping a mile home is not ok

Friend of mine lives in a house which is about a mile away from the nearest big supermarket, although there is a Tesco Express about 10 minutes away. She drives but doesnt own a car. Found out recently that when she does a big shop she pushes it the mile home in a supermarket trolley and then leaves the trolley in the street. Apparently, the trolley always disappears after a few days. Something about this has really lowered my opinion of her. She's not broke and could easily afford an Uber a couple of times a month. Just after some other opinions in case I'm being too judgemental.

I couldn't give a flying fuck about this. Wierd that you do tbh.

AStudyinPink · 30/01/2021 11:19

Skanky. Flytipping and stealing and expecting others to do your dirty work. She wouldn’t be my friend anymore.

You find it weird that a poster is bothered by someone stealing shopping trolleys and dumping them in the street?
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/01/2021 11:20

Leaving the trolley in the street is not on. Borrowing it instead of driving is better for the environment and if she took it back after it would be fine.

Figgygal · 30/01/2021 11:20

She leaves it in the street? How scuzzy
I couldn’t be friends with someone who thinks that’s ok

She’s a thieving skank.

Akire · 30/01/2021 11:30

I live in block of flats near a supermarket we are constantly finding trolleys on landings blocking hallways and doors and the lift. It drives me mad. It’s one thing to push shopping home though I would never but being to idle to take it back and it’s theft!

Nighthawker · 30/01/2021 11:32

I'm amazed she can manage to push a full trolley a mile across uneven pavements, I have enough trouble steering it across the supermarket car park when its full of heavy shopping.

Sexnotgender · 30/01/2021 11:34

If she took it back again I wouldn’t care. Scummy as fuck to just dump it.

boredinthouse · 30/01/2021 11:36

If someone in our village pushed their shopping home in a trolley and then let the trolley in the street it would be all over the Facebook village page and everyone would know. It's very strange behaviour.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 30/01/2021 11:37

If she can push a trolley and is too lazy to carry a bag and/or rucksack, she can push her own bag/basket on wheel.

So some people actually LIKE living in deprived looking areas with dumped trolleys and rubbish? The mind boggles.

cultkid · 30/01/2021 11:38

She should bring it back
That would upset me too
It's disrespectful on a variety of levels incl expecting someone who works at the shop to collect it and bring it back

The fact that trolleys roll into cars and damage them

The fact that they can cause accidents with people falling over them etc or blocking things

I would tell the shop you know who steals their trolleys next time you're in

She's selfish

It really isn’t weird to care about this, discarded shopping trolleys in the street is not a good look.
LionLily · 30/01/2021 11:40

If she took it back, or kept it in the garden/shed until the next shop, that wouldn't be so bad.
Tbh, I'd find it less embarrassing to be walking down the street with a good old fashioned tartan-pattern Sholley, rather than a Tescos's trolley.
(And if it was a Sholley with one of those flip down seats - all the better for a little sit down half way along. Might even take a little flask with me. Am I getting old?)

CakeRequired · 30/01/2021 11:40

She's lazy and rude. I wouldn't be friends with her either. She should be taking it back each time.

Weird that someone thinks this is OK to do and you should ignore it.

Ilovemaisie · 30/01/2021 11:41

She is essentially stealing supermarket property and then fly tipping it. The supermarket will have to pay for trolleys to be replaced and for maybe an extra member of staff to go wandering the streets rounding them up. All costs which will be added to her supermarket shop.
If the council picks up fly tipping then that also costs - more on the council tax to pay then?
Point this out to her.

bloodyhairy · 30/01/2021 11:41

I don't drive, and would be much too mortified to do this.
YANBU.

SparklePiggy · 30/01/2021 11:41

Yeah, I would think less of her too. It shows she lacks in community spirit or concern for anything other than herself.

raffle · 30/01/2021 11:42

Our big supermarket has some kind of technology on the trolleys...the wheels lock if it goes beyond the boundaries of the car park. Guess they got fed up of CFs like OPs friend.

BertieBotts · 30/01/2021 11:42

This happens a lot in student areas apparently, the supermarkets employ people to round up the trolleys and push them back.

Maybe you could buy her a shopping bag on wheels for her birthday.

RaspberryCoulis · 30/01/2021 11:43

It's clearly not OK. It's littering and makes the streets look uncared for. Is your friend the sort who thinks it's OK to leave old sofas outside the house too, or flytipping?

Urgh.

I quite agree She must be very thrifty and extremely strong

Not on! Those trolleys aren't free, we pay for them through our shopping. If she returned it the same day fair enough but dumping it in the street is very wrong
