To think using a supermarket trolley to take your shopping a mile home is not ok

Friend of mine lives in a house which is about a mile away from the nearest big supermarket, although there is a Tesco Express about 10 minutes away. She drives but doesnt own a car. Found out recently that when she does a big shop she pushes it the mile home in a supermarket trolley and then leaves the trolley in the street. Apparently, the trolley always disappears after a few days. Something about this has really lowered my opinion of her. She's not broke and could easily afford an Uber a couple of times a month. Just after some other opinions in case I'm being too judgemental.

OP I agree with you and with the comment about not taking it back being the real issue.

@DonLewis

I couldn't give a flying fuck about this. Wierd that you do tbh.
I really hate this attitude. If we live as part of a society the things each of us do affect each other. I don't have to care if I see someone stealing my neighbour's car or vandalising a toddler's play area (mine are too old to use it so who cares?) but I do because I'm not selfish.

If we all stole trollies and abandoned them there will be consequences for all of us. For a start it's wasteful and bad for the enviornment and in any case it'll cost the supermarket money which will be recouped from the rest of us (either by requiring a larger deposit for trollies or by simply increasing prices).

She needs a wheelie shopping trolley. I wouldn’t dump a trolley a mile away but some people feel so entitled it’s shocking

SeasTheDay · 30/01/2021 13:10

@Sexnotgender

If she took it back again I wouldn’t care. Scummy as fuck to just dump it.
This 100%

Why do people perpetuate this idea that stealing from large businesses is ok?????

Mad, isn’t it?

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 30/01/2021 13:46

Yeh why can't she buy one of those trolley bags on wheels? She's stealing and then leaving it on the street for it to roll into cars. Hopefully the supermarket will notice she keeps doing it and challenge her.

Lol

Sbowiegirl · 30/01/2021 15:28

Em... I did this once. Went to pick up my shopping at the supermarket and pulled a muscle in my shoulder. Was about to collect my son from school and walk a mile uphill hime with 4 heavy bags and just couldn’t manage with the sore shoulder. So, I took the trolley with me uphill. My husband returned it later that day

megletthesecond · 30/01/2021 15:35

As long as she takes it back again straight away it's fine.
Flytipping it in the street is gross.

I have skanky neighbours who leave trollies everywhere and the kids run riot with them. Sainsburys and Morrisons have never once come out to get them so muggins here has to walk them back. I get petty revenge by reporting my neighbours every incident of flytipping clutter round the side of their house.

KeyWorker · 30/01/2021 15:44

If she returned her trolley to Tesco then I wouldn’t see a problem. The fact she leaves it in the street is a big deal, does she think the car park trolley attending is collecting it or is she aware that it’ll be taken by kids and dumped in the river?

tttigress · 30/01/2021 15:48

Would be ok if she pushed back after unloading

DFAMA · 30/01/2021 15:49

One of my neighbours does this, he accumulates loads on his driveway and then they all disappear after a few weeks. No idea if he takes them all back or dumps them somewhere
