To be annoyed by the Duchess of Cambridge's claim that home schooling is 'exhausting'

I accept that lockdown has had an impact on everyone to some extent, however privileged. But I can't help being irritated by this. Even if we accept that she is doing the home schooling herself without any help, I don't think there is any comparison between her situation and that of many other people. I am not saying lockdown isn't difficult for her.....but it is a million times harder if you are say a single parent, struggling with home schooling and a minimum wage job which you may lose any time, worried sick about your and DC future if this happens. And doing it in a poky flat instead of a vast country estate.

And I know she may be trying to show empathy with the rest of us. But TBH I would have much more respect for the royals if they would just acknowledge their privilege rather than claim common ground which just isn't there.

What cost to local councils?

Smncandles · 02/02/2021 22:07

In any case , I hope this thread has been enlightening for readers and food for thought .

The limited ( to be polite) arguments put forward by the royal sycophants have done more to undermine the whole monarchist charade than I could ever hope to

Smncandles · 02/02/2021 22:08

Local councils pay for costs incurred when graced by royal visitors .

Didn't you know that ??

VinylDetective · 02/02/2021 22:09

They didn’t when I worked in local government.
combatbarbie · 02/02/2021 22:12

I'm confused, it's widely known that Catherine does most of the normal child related stuff, night waking, school run, making meals etc (obviously not when they on duty away from the home). So I'd be very surprised if there is a tutor.... The nanny is prob there granted. It doesn't mean that she's not struggling with home schooling.... Just because she's "privileged" doesn't make her a robot. Ffs look at the MH issues Diana had..... She may be having "an easier" time than some of us but at least she's trying to relate in these crap times.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/02/2021 22:13

Yup,the royal sychopahants have slurped and undertaken some mental linguistic leaps to try convince posters That Will & Kate are simply just
touchy feely parents

Reports of knowing Them followed by proclamation & exclamation of how ordinary, spiffing and Hands on they are

Financial chicanery to prove their so cost effective they practically pay for themselves

And finally The utter fingers in ear post of disputing that Andrew didn’t know about Epstein

Smncandles · 02/02/2021 22:16

You mustn't have been paying attention

There was a petition last year to change the rules and make the royals pay .

You also have failed to address the other costs - security , travel , that royal train ?

Didkdt · 02/02/2021 22:16

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Whilst effusing what jolly sorts the RF the poster had some tangential thinking and stumbled into saying duke of York didn’t know what Epstein was up to
Ah ok, gosh well that’s quite the detour
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/02/2021 22:18

Yes quite the detour

Can we have a look at this petition, then? I assume you have a link since you’re so much more knowledgeable than I am.
Smncandles · 02/02/2021 22:29

Oh that was the petition re the millions to spent on Buckingham palace

Much more than the council one - I will look for that

VinylDetective · 02/02/2021 22:30
Vinyl ,

you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/make-royals-pay-for-palace-renovation
What’s that got to do with money from local authorities? It’s about the cost of renovating Buckingham Palace.

Smncandles · 02/02/2021 22:42

This is not the petition but it details costs of a short royal visit to Cambridge . You seemed to unaware that royals don't meet those costs themselves

merrygoround88 · 02/02/2021 22:43

I can’t understand why she didn’t say ‘even with all my many privileges, I am finding these changes tough, can’t imagine how those with less help cope’

It wouldn’t have jarred as much. I don’t why people get so het up about the RF , I think they have their uses

VinylDetective · 02/02/2021 22:50

No petition then. Just a breakdown of £5k paid by Cambridge City Council. And still no response to the question about apparently unpaid taxes from @MixMatch.

sammylady37 · 02/02/2021 22:50

It’s widely portrayed that she does certainly, but not widely known. They gave very good and very prolific PR.

She was asked for one word, that’s why.
sammylady37 · 02/02/2021 22:51

*have, not gave

Smncandles · 02/02/2021 23:05

Vinyl , you said that councils didn’t pay at all.
I agree 5000pounds is a tiny amount when discussing the cost of the royals.
I note you didn’t mention the petition re the cost of Buckingham palace renovations . 350 million if I remember correctly.

Smncandles · 02/02/2021 23:08

We also need a figure for royal security, they don’t pay for that themselves . It is not included in the 85 million which vinyl quoted - that is just the grant. Security , travel , visits must all be added

merrygoround88 · 02/02/2021 23:33

Well then @VinylDetective her word should have been ‘grateful’
I do get that she wants to be normal mumsy but she’s really not

MagentaDoesNotExist · 03/02/2021 03:38

Can't we all just feel a bit sorry for her? Yes she has lots of money but her life must be miserable. She can never go for a walk or drive alone, never go to the beach alone and swim and lie on the sand. Ever. She has given up any prospect of freedom, ever, for some money. Yes it must be easier in many ways than many people's lives (including mine!) but it must also be suffocating to know that you'll never be free even for a day, always be following and "accompanied" everywhere and scrutinised. Horrendous. We all have our issues to deal with. Personally I think the Royal family should be abolished but that doesn't stop me from feeling sorry for her as a human who is probably struggling with her own issues like everybody else is.

MagentaDoesNotExist · 03/02/2021 03:43

Especially having made the choice to do that when still quite young and not having really thought that through. The realisation later of what it means, it must be devastating. No money can buy her way out of it, ever. It's a one way street that nobody in their right mind would go down if they really understood what it would mean for their life.

Yes, many of us have much more difficult issues to content with, objectively. But the experience of life is subjective so let's try to all support each other. I think in a very inept way, that's what she meant to try to do here.

Jesus I never thought I'd find myself defending the Royal family. 🤣🤣

KeflavikAirport · 03/02/2021 06:52

So If instead of one word she said something like “in awe of teachers”, I really don’t think she would’ve been in trouble for saying more than one word do you?
