Using kitchen scissors to separate a string of raw sausages, then using the scissors (without washing them) to open a packet of frozen fruit, to be eaten raw with yoghurt.

YABU - no biggie

YANBU - that's fuckin' rank

Taylrse · 28/01/2021 22:43

I've done worse. Much worse Blush

TheTeenageYears · 28/01/2021 22:45

I was really really sick for a week after raw pork contamination years ago so am pretty cautious. I haven't watched a cooking show in years but chefs used to wipe wooden chopping boards that had had raw chicken breast on them with a tea towel and then wipe hands on it - made my skin crawl

OppsUpsSide · 28/01/2021 22:46

Grim

Imiss2019 · 28/01/2021 22:46

I wouldn’t do it but I’ve had food poisoning before and campylobacter and crapping blood is not fun!

thenightsky · 28/01/2021 22:47

I immediately thought of the Jilly Cooper character (can't remember which) who cut her fringe with the unwashed bacon scissors Grin

newmumwithquestions · 28/01/2021 22:48

My cleanliness standards are pretty low but I think that’s rank. Really surprised by the answers!

YewandOak · 28/01/2021 22:49

Thats rank.

But then when we're not in lovkdown my job is in catering so cross contamination has been drummed into me for years.

bellie710 · 28/01/2021 22:52

That is a major environmental health no no! Raw food and ready to eat food mixing, the chances of the fruit touching where the packet was cut is relatively low but still yuck!

Wendyhause · 28/01/2021 22:54

The scissor thing. I have done similar without thinking and then on realising have said oops to myself but not shrieked in horror or dialled 111 or anything. I always use scissors to cut meat and unless I am distracted I immediately put those scissors in the kitchen sink.

I ate something I dropped on my kitchen floor today. A small piece of cooked food. I hate waste. Had it been on someone else's kitchen floor I would not have eaten it but I know my tiles are clean enough not to be bothered about it.

AStudyinPink · 28/01/2021 22:54

That is a major environmental health no no!

Oh, MN. Grin

TonkinLenkicks · 28/01/2021 22:54

@AStudyinPink

I thought this was going to be actually gross, rather than mildly gastronomically risky.
What a sentence!
Frlrlrubert · 28/01/2021 22:55

It's not ideal, but I'm a slattern with an iron constitution so pre DD I wouldn't have blinked, at most I might have wiped them on my jeans in between.

Post DD I'm a bit more careful because small people have underdeveloped immune systems until about age 8 (iirc).

AStudyinPink · 28/01/2021 22:55

What a sentence!

Wink
ktp100 · 28/01/2021 22:56

That is fucking disgusting AND could give everyone food poisoning!!

Grim.

tatutata · 28/01/2021 22:59

I'm utterly paranoid about that stuff so I'd definitely be a bit worried about it. Doesn't gross me out, it's just not a risk I like taking.

MrsEricBana · 28/01/2021 23:03

I mean I wouldn't cut actual raw fruit with sausage scissors then eat it, but snipping the bag open is not crime of the century. And relax.

Wendyhause · 28/01/2021 23:07

When I said I ate something off my kitchen floor today I meant I got down like a dog and slurped it up.

JOKING !!!!!!!

riotlady · 28/01/2021 23:14

Not ideal but not a major incident imo

bellie710 · 28/01/2021 23:17

@AStudyinPink

That is a major environmental health no no!

Oh, MN. Grin

When you work in catering you life is ruled by this shit and you can be shut down, not worth the hassle!
Quit4me · 28/01/2021 23:20

The only think gross is why are you eating frozen fruit with yoghurt? 🤢

Squeakybeagle · 28/01/2021 23:22

Grim, but after working in a supermarket where food prep happened I’m not surprised by the responses on here. They sound like some of the people I worked with, including managers who should have known better. Coming from a health background it was shocking.
I’m far from a clean freak, but food is something I try not to take risks with.

PickAChew · 28/01/2021 23:29

Ugh, no, raw meat scissors immediately go in the sink (washed last) or dishwasher, here. Not a risk I'm happy to take, particularly pork or poultry.

Viviennemary · 28/01/2021 23:41

I suppose it would be better to wipe the scissors. But I couldn't lose any sleep over this.

halloween88 · 28/01/2021 23:42

Gross and risk of tummy upset

JRUIN · 28/01/2021 23:44

It's not ideal I suppose. Not 'fuckin' rank enough to be arsed to start a thread about though.
