To think fat makes you look younger?

...which is why many like to inject it in their faces (mainly thinking of celebs).

Also wondering why society has you wanting to look as skinny as possible and, on the other hand, as young as possible? Simply add some weight but nope, there's more to inject.

I've noticed many people who were 'fat' and then lost weight usually look (sometimes much) older than did before. Then compensate with botox and fillers (Also thinking of celebs).

Fwiw I'm not fat nor skinny- I'm average but I don't think fat is the work of the devil either unless it affects health. Have been skinny and fat - I like average.

I'm also not saying young/old = good or bad. I like being older actually. Just something I've noticed.

I couldn't disagree more. Fat is ageing in my opinion.

dinosforall · 28/01/2021 09:36

Because while having a fat face generally makes you look younger, having a fat body generally makes you look older. Hence the phrase about choosing between your face and your figure.

CoolKitkat · 28/01/2021 09:37

I think when you're younger, it ages you; as you get older, it helps iron out the wrinkles.

MsTSwift · 28/01/2021 09:39

IA group of us talking about Botox as one of us a medic starting her own business in it and my lovely friend who is larger said she wouldn’t need it and she’s right her skin is better than the rest of us smoother fewer wrinkles. My old friends who are all very slim at 46 do look older than my larger friends.

praepondero · 28/01/2021 09:39

It all depends where the fat deposits sit, doesn't it? Boobs - good, abdomen - bad.
Ankles - very bad, arse - good to some, bad to others.
Looking like a hamster with fatty cheeks - bad, looking like a fucking goldfish with injected lips - according to certain societal stratum, good (boak-inducing to the rest of us).

Etc.

FatNFabulous · 28/01/2021 09:40

I think a fat face makes one look like a baby (Baby face/baby fat) so I'm not sure it ages you.

OP posts:
FatNFabulous · 28/01/2021 09:41

Yes it does depend on where the fat is actually.

keeping a fuller face makes you look younger - not including a double chin (and maybe more fat on bum too) fat anywhere else on the body is aging

pigsDOfly · 28/01/2021 09:45

Being very thin can make some people's faces look gaunt and show up the lines, and fat in the face can often give a smooth appearance to the face.

However, generally, I think being fat tends to make a person look older.

Bluntness100 · 28/01/2021 09:47

No I think being too heavy or too thin is ageing, a healthy weight is the optimum.

bonjourem · 28/01/2021 09:49

I agree a fatter face does make a person look younger. But i would much rather be healthier and look better in clothes than be overweight.

Bluntness100 · 28/01/2021 09:49

I’d also agree, no one looks at your face in isolation. Excess weight in the body is ageing.

Emeraldshamrock · 28/01/2021 09:49

I'm not sure. My Dsis's have rounded faces their face is smoother than mine but my body looks much younger as it is slim my face isn't gaunt I've a big forehead to balance it out. Grin
Even if I piled on weight it wouldn't go on my face unless it was a few stone then I wouldn't be as mobile as I am carrying a few stone defeating the purpose of being healthy.

thecatneuterer · 28/01/2021 09:51

Yes to qualify my comment - very thin is also of course ageing. But being slim (eg like Tess Daley) makes people seem more youthful than if they were dumpy/fat.

OhioOhioOhio · 28/01/2021 09:52

I'm fat and my choice of clothes is decidedly more aging than what I'll wear when I get fit. I've cut back totally on alcohol lately. That's made a massive difference to my skin and I'm sure that's the same for everyone, fat or thin.

zigaziga · 28/01/2021 09:53

Yes to a small extent but I think people looking older after they’ve lost significant amounts of weight is more due to excess skin- if they’d never been overweight they would probably look a bit different.

KihoBebiluPute · 28/01/2021 09:53

I think you have a point. I have lost a lot of weight over the past year and although I generally look a lot healthier, there are certainly some areas around my face and neck which used to be padded out with pudge and now are a teensy bit saggy and wrinkly. I don't think I miss the pudge though.

Chimeraforce · 28/01/2021 09:55

Not for me. Being fat makes my boobs look matronly and I look mumsy.
Double chin isn't youthful either.

Lemonlemon88 · 28/01/2021 09:58

I don't think either does. I think it's a mixture of how attractive you are, how you've looked after yourself and how you dress.

BiBabbles · 28/01/2021 09:59

It depends on the person and how their fat lays and how much the weight has changed. Professionals (should) be very selective where they're putting fat grafts and I don't think we can use the extreme lives of some celebrities of a model for normality.

My spouse, who has been overweight as long as I've known him, routinely gets thought to be well over a decade older than me, has since we were teens, even though he's not even 18 months older. Part of that may be him having had a 'dad bod' as a teenager, but even though I can see the round baby face (now under a beard), we can see in photos that he's definitely aged faster than I have, only having had weight fluctuations of a few stone up, mostly in the healthy range.

The weight loss aging can be noticeable, but it can also be attributed to a fact that neither obesity or major weight change is gentle on the body. People of the same weight who've never been significant under- or over- weight are less likely to have that same aging effect, much like if you have someone quit smoking, they're still likely to have more visible aging compared to someone who never smoked or body builders who does major bulks and cuts tend to have more aged skin without 'assistance'.

Meruem · 28/01/2021 10:02

I was a size 10 for many years. I rarely got compliments and instead was also told I was “too skinny” and “gaunt”. I had no breasts, my arms were like sticks. Now I’m a 14 and everyone has said it suits me much better. I do agree. My face is rounder, I have normal size arms now and breasts! My weight gain was due to medication but I’m not going to be trying to lose the weight. Slim didn’t suit me when I was young and being in my 50s now it would be worse.

Chalkcheese · 28/01/2021 10:06

The worst thing weight wise is yo yo dieting because your skin gets stretched and shrunk again over time and each time you get more damage and more loose skin. The Diet Coke/coffee and cigarettes diet is also awful and ages people, and that's how a lot of skinny people stay skinny. I think there just comes a time you can't hide your sins anymore and wear them on your face.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 28/01/2021 10:09

I think for women being very lean can age you a little as you almost lose a little stretch to your skin. However being overweight is also aging. There's a lot to be said for being around a size 10-12, especially during 30s & 40s. I personally find that losing too much weight ages my skin and makes my hair thinner.

Thingsthatgo · 28/01/2021 10:09

It depends on what age you are I think. I’m mid 40s, and i definitely look younger when I’m a 10-12 than when I’m a size 8. My cheeks look hollow when I have low body fat. When I was younger I could get away with being a size 6-8 without looking gaunt.

SmileyClare · 28/01/2021 10:10

Yeah it's that tired old argument of choosing your face or figure as you age.

I'd rather have a slightly gaunt face and a small figure. Being fit, being able to bounce around gives an air of youth doesn't it?

That said, I've been cursed with chubby cheeks and a round face despite being thin. I'd love to have a thin face and cheekbones! I might look a bit younger with my chubby cheeks but I don't think they're particularly attractive or beautiful.

I hate it when a woman loses a lot of weight and people start whispering about her looking "gaunt" or haggard. It strikes me as sour grapes!
