To think fat makes you look younger?

...which is why many like to inject it in their faces (mainly thinking of celebs).

Also wondering why society has you wanting to look as skinny as possible and, on the other hand, as young as possible? Simply add some weight but nope, there's more to inject.

I've noticed many people who were 'fat' and then lost weight usually look (sometimes much) older than did before. Then compensate with botox and fillers (Also thinking of celebs).

Fwiw I'm not fat nor skinny- I'm average but I don't think fat is the work of the devil either unless it affects health. Have been skinny and fat - I like average.

I'm also not saying young/old = good or bad. I like being older actually. Just something I've noticed.

I'm filling up my skin, if I loose wait I look like the saggy baggy elephant

Beans13 · 28/01/2021 10:16

OP I agree to an extent.

I've just lost a fair chunk of weight the past year, always thought I had a naturally fat face which is why I looked so young for my age.

However since losing it my face has really aged!! It's much more gaunt, and I definitely look older in the face. However my body looks much younger in clothes now I've lost the weight! You can't win Grin

Its funny actually, before I had barbaric surgery I was told that people who had the surgery were considered to look aged by the weightless, but were considered more attractive.

Since my weightloss I've had people comment that I look more like a young woman than a "mum" I take that to maybe mean I look younger?!

I think personally it depends on the person. Some people look fabulous with extra weight, and not great at a smaller weight, others look like they've lost 20 years with weightloss

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/01/2021 10:20

I'm losing at the moment, 53lb down with about 30 left to go. I always thought that the fat face made me look younger but looking back at photos I'm not convinced anymore.

I am concerned about loose skin, particularly neck/chin and then across my body but overall it will be better when I don't have the fat, so I'll just need to take that as it comes. I'm taking collagen supplements and drinking lots of water in the hopes that that will help.

There is about 40lbs between these 2 pictures and 6 years

No wrinkles on a balloon.

MorrisZapp · 28/01/2021 10:26

Obviously it's face v. body. I lost a good bit of weight a couple of years ago and I look loads younger from the back or from a distance but close up my face looks older.

Having said that, no power on this earth would have me put that weight back on and if looking like a meth addict is the price to pay then so be it. At least I can put make up on, and I'm getting my teeth straightened too. No going back now.

FatNFabulous · 28/01/2021 10:28

Lol @ looking like a meth addict

Halfshrunk You look fabulous in your "after" photo! You must feel so much better, energy and health wise too.

HitchFlix · 28/01/2021 10:29

I thought this too but I've recently lost the weight I put on after having my second child 3 years ago and now that my face is thinner I look younger? Looking at photos being fat definitely ages me. But I'm mid-thirties with no real wrinkles yet so maybe in a decade or so it will be the reverse.

ZaraW · 28/01/2021 10:34

A double chin isn't exactly youthful.

CounsellorTroi · 28/01/2021 10:34

I lost nearly 2st seven years ago. My neck looked scrawnier and my hands looked more veiny.

Ikora · 28/01/2021 10:36

There is a line where being very slim isn’t good. I was very unwell about six years ago. I’m a size 8 and slim but I went down to a size 4. I know I was ill so not exactly at my best but looked terrible as my face had become gaunt. My friend was classed as clinically obese and she did a great job losing almost 7 stone. But her skin suffered.

Imapotato · 28/01/2021 10:38

Past 40 I think you look older if you are very skinny. I’m not saying people should aspire to be fat, but a little bit of podge to fill out the wrinkles is no bad thing.

I’m mid 30s now and quite baby faces. I would never aim to be skinny now as I think it would age me. Slim yes, skinny no.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2021 10:38

Double chins and jowls ages me. I look younger slimmer. On there threads “slim” always turns into the perjorative “skinny”.

OhioOhioOhio · 28/01/2021 10:38

Those before and after photos are amazing.

FatNFabulous · 28/01/2021 10:44

I agree it does depend on age as well.

And yes, there's a tendency to go
Slim= skinny
Fat= morbidly obese.

There's a middle ground spectrum.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 28/01/2021 10:47

It definitely depends on age I think.

I can't think of any overweight, over 40s I know who don't have jowls. I don't think being overweight makes them look any older, but it doesn't make them look younger either.

Under 30s/40s tend to be still relatively fresh faced anyway no matter what their weight.

notalwaysalondoner · 28/01/2021 10:58

It's a very fine line and depends on (a) how much fat and (b) the person's age. If someone is size 18+ it won't really make them look younger in my opinion, and is likely to have health effects that are ageing, but I do agree that over the age of about 45-50 being a skinny size 8 doesn't really look good on anyone, people tend to look a bit withered, aged and saggy compared to a rounder size 10-16.

praepondero · 28/01/2021 10:59

It all comes down to facial bone structure. Someone who has cheekbones to sing about and forehead to rival that of Aristotele can get away with being really thin at any age, whilst cheekboneless, low-browed individual would look deflated indeed.

Grin
FatNFabulous · 28/01/2021 11:02

I also agree some people look better with some weight on while others look better with less.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 28/01/2021 11:58

For me I don’t look good if I’m overweight. I personally think my face looks more youthful at a healthy weight, as there is cheekbones and no double chin, no puffiness. But being overweight for me is not a good look.

However neither would be being too thin. A healthy weight and toned with it, is the overall most youthful thing. In both men and women.

NameChange84 · 28/01/2021 12:05

I’ve put on a lot of weight in the lockdown and it’s aged me a lot.

When I’m thin I have big clear eyes, a defined jaw and cheek bones, a slimmer nose etc.

Nothing is more aging that a double chin IMO. My eyes look smaller. Clothes don’t sit right on me - I have a “matronly bosom”.

Maybe if you are older (I’m 36) there’s a point when you have wrinkles and older skin and a very slender figure can mean that the wrinkles don’t fill out but I think for women below 60, fat is ageing.

I’m often shocked when I see very overweight girls on The Voice etc saying they are 17 etc and they often look much much older. Mainly based on weight and how they have to dress as a result.

I think a slimmer figure is linked to youth.
