Driving 3 miles to beach and fined £200

nancybotwinbloom · 27/01/2021 20:01

A friend of a friend drove three miles to her nearest beach and took her newborn for a walk in the pram.

She was surrounded by police and fined £200.

This was today.

I think it must of been scary to be surrounded by police with the pram and the newborn. Surely only one of them needed to speak to her. Not mob handed. Or are they all unreasonable?

Is it unreasonable to drive three miles for a walk? I'm at a point now I can't work out what's local and what's not. I don't think she was in the wrong in all honesty.

Or is it that she drove there that it's not local enough.

I walk nearly three miles to the park with the dog and walk through the park and walk back most days and I don't think I am unreasonable?

What is local classed as these days?

Boris going to Scotland today is going to make any " guidance" hard to enforce.

yearinyearout · 28/01/2021 07:58

You're not supposed to drive anywhere for exercise. It's supposed to start and finish at home.

In England, that is simply not true.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 28/01/2021 08:02

Was she in Wales? You can be fined for driving to exercise here.

Is he going for exercise or work? If it's work It's not got anything to do with people driving to go for a walk

But could it be reasonably done remotely/from home? If so, it should be. That is what everyone else is being told to do

Backbee · 28/01/2021 08:36

If Boris didn't visit Scotland during this, people would moan and say oh see he doesn't care about the union, just England, how London centric blah blah. Plenty of people travel for work, which is permitted. Nicola said: But Ms Sturgeon said she was "not ecstatic" about the plan, saying leaders should abide by the same rules as they ask of the general public- probably because it doesn't strengthen her see they don't care about us Scotland, we aren't ever included narrative. It's not like he is going to be getting 30 busses to get there, or take no precautions.

Not unless Liverpool has moved.

He is still asking other people to abide by rules that he is not abiding by himself. Now where have I heard that before? Oh yes, Durham/Barnard Castle Grin

Backbee · 28/01/2021 08:44

I don't know why people don't understand that travel for work is permitted, it's quite a simple concept.

Backbee · 28/01/2021 08:44

Do you honestly think Boris is desperate to go to Scotland for personal reasons? I really fucking doubt it.

abonae · 28/01/2021 09:29

I would decline to pay the FPN and take it to court.

Looneytune253 · 28/01/2021 09:33

Wow there's gotta be more to this story!! I live about 3 miles from the beach and I would defo say it's local enough for me to travel to. Did she cross a border into another local authority? It can't be as simple as travelling 3 miles to walk. I'm always suspicious of scaremongering stories like this lol

BonnieDundee · 28/01/2021 09:34

I dont know why.peole dont understand that you can only.travel for work if it is essential and cant be done from home. It's quite a simple concept

Because it's not correct.

People are disputing that that particular work couldn’t be done remotely.

It’s so obviously a politically motivated trip.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2021 09:41

Did she cross a border into another local authority?

That’s irrelevant.

Ifailed · 28/01/2021 09:47

one of the many reasons why someone can leave their home( in England):

for the purposes of work or to provide voluntary or charitable services, where it is not reasonably possible for P to work, or to provide those services, from home;

Flowers for you, think you've been given an unnecessarily hard time on this thread. It could well be true and has sparked discussion, no need for posters to attack you as much as some have x

Because you are wrong :) but also he is the prime minister of the UK, travelling to one of the countries within that, that's quite important to be honest. Each to their own, what do people think the armed forces do every weekend out of interest in terms of travelling?

Stressful, though, isn't it?

Re Formby Beach - if you google 'Formby Beach Police' you'll see some lockdown stories. I think the police do keep an eye out and respond to calls after a number of incidents.

If the police are overstepping, then they should be reined in by the Home Secretary, with clear announcements for the public that is easy to understand about what the law actually is.

To date, I still think there is a lack of clarity.

Chiccie · 28/01/2021 11:32

You can travel for exercise. It’s on the govt website. Read it

Chiccie · 28/01/2021 11:34

Exercising
You should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.

You can exercise in a public outdoor place:

by yourself
with the people you live with
with your support bubble (if you are legally permitted to form one)
in a childcare bubble where providing childcare
or, when on your own, with 1 person from another household
This includes but is not limited to running, cycling, walking, and swimming. Personal training can continue if participants are from the same household or support bubble. It can also continue if it is one-on-one, although this should only take place in a public outdoor place, and not in someone’s private home or garden.

Public outdoor places include:

parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, forests

Chiccie · 28/01/2021 11:35

3 miles to a beach (which is a permitted place) is local. You can’t get much more local. If they expected people to only walk to get exercise then they would state that.

JiminyLeeCricket · 28/01/2021 11:37

@Chiccie

It's starting to look like the police should read it.
