According to DP "most people" have eaten dinner by 6pm.

Referring to adults, not children.

He's obsessed with eating at a time I consider pretty early.

I'm giving him the side eye Hmm

We usually have dinner once DC in bed- so 7.30-7.45pm. Today randomly we've eaten at 6.15- which to be honest I much prefer as a time to eat, but usually it isn't an option due to mine and DH's working hours.

Animum2 · 28/01/2021 18:45

Yeah we don't have dinner till about 8, but then I take a late lunch at around 230

AliceMadHatter · 28/01/2021 18:46

@Familyshopper

If I ate my dinner before 7pm I’d be starving later plus who these days has time to get the dinner on the table before 6
Me.

I finish at 4.30pm and the office is 4 minutes from where I live. DH is up early and gets in no later than 5.30pm. I don't eat much in the day so ready for then.

No chance, we rarely eat before 7pm at the absolute earliest

(We’re northern though so its tea for us)

SunscreenCentral · 28/01/2021 18:52

Now that the dc are older (young adult/teen) we eat at more grown-up times - usually around 7.30.

Breakfast isn’t the sacred ritual it used to be anymore either.

I much prefer things this way.

saffy2 · 28/01/2021 18:54

Oh and I don’t eat again in the evening. Up 6/6.30, breakfast at 7 again the whole family, lunch 12.30 ish, and dinner 5.30. I go to bed around 10 and once the kids are in bed there’s not a lot of time, I don’t get hungry!

Shell4429 · 28/01/2021 18:56

I don’t know many people who finish work that late. Most of the people around me in my street get back home between 3 and 6pm. I think we are more working class though, not commuter types. I like to have dinner over and everything in the dishwasher before 7pm so that I can relax.

caspersmagicaljourney · 28/01/2021 19:05

I'm usually still working at 6pm.
I'm lucky if I've had dinner by 8pm tbh.
Probably similar for many who work full time hours

FlorenceinSummer · 28/01/2021 19:10

We are English and eat around 5:30pm to 6pm 🤷‍♀️ I’m working from home that helps. Before we would be eating before 6:30. We pretty much always eat with the kids (unless we have takeaway and we don’t want to share 😂)

TurquoiseDragon · 28/01/2021 19:18

My ex wanted dinner as close to 6pm as possible. I hated eating at that time, as I'd only be home by around 5:45 and would have to get to cooking straight away, no chance of sitting down for a cuppa for 20 minutes. Ex would get home around 6pm so essentially wanted dinner on the table as soon as he got home.

Ex for this among many, many reasons, and the DC and I eat around 7-7:30 now, works better for us.

In fact, I'm just waiting for the veg to finish cooking and then we'll be eating.

blowinahoolie · 28/01/2021 19:20

Lots of folk work full time but shift their hours to free up the afternoon. DH chooses to work very early to finish early. You have more free time before sleep that way, in daylight hours. Eating dinner/tea early means you don't have food lying in your stomach before you sleep.

We ate even earlier today so DH could be back with food shopping early so he has the evening to himself. It just depends what is important to you.

Dinner/tea interchangeable tbh.

Flipping cheek. Did he not take turns in cooking?

I'd have sent him off for a bath or shower and when he came down, he could lay the table. Then food would be ready.

Anyway, he is an ex now so that is good. 7-7.30pm is civilised.

Templetree · 28/01/2021 19:26

I eat dinner never tea at 7-7.30.
I dont understand the food laying on your stomach thing at all.
Maybe stop eating so much?
I like to enjoy my dinner not rush it down at 5pm .
My mother always did that, gobbled her food and it was not relaxing or enjoyable at all.

AliceMadHatter · 28/01/2021 19:30

Why are people rushing their food and gobbling it down if they eat it earlier?

We both work full time, just finish earlier than some and we eat our dinner at a normal pace and enjoy it.

Macaroni46 · 28/01/2021 19:32

Those of you who eat dinner late, are you not starving? I get really hungry if I haven't eaten by 7.30.
But then I work in a school where lunch is at 12.

Mid afternoon snack😁
Max14165 · 28/01/2021 19:36

I do 16/8 so all meals have so be finished by 8pm - we tend to eat about 7pm ..

ComeONBridget · 28/01/2021 19:40

Still haven't had dinner yet

Middersweekly · 28/01/2021 19:41

We eat between 8-9pm every night. But...we live in Spain so it’s pretty standard to eat late. Most people here eat at 9-10pm with their main meal being lunch at 3-4pm.

Frequency · 28/01/2021 19:42

We don't really have a routine atm but when I was working in the office it'd be close to 7pm by the time I got home. Dinner was normally between 8-30 - 9pm.

Now I'm working from home I usually start dinner at around 5:15 and dinner is ready by six but this is only because I'm rushing off to my second job or I have uni work I want to do and prefer to sit down and get on with it without having to worry about cooking. If I'm feeling lazy and taking a day off uni work dinner is often after 7.

In other words I cook therefore dinner is ready when I decide it is.

Celestine70 · 28/01/2021 19:43

We eat around 7/8.

randomsabreuse · 28/01/2021 19:44

Try for 6-6.30 as we eat with a 2 yo and a 5 yo. Looking forward to them being old enough to eat a bit later as naturally I prefer to eat around 7 or 7.30 and I prefer family meals so I don't have to faff with cooking twice (and if I've cooked something nice I want it fresh).

In-laws must be on the table by 6 but to be fair MIL is diabetic and FIL has Crohn's.

Templetree · 28/01/2021 19:44

Why are people rushing their food and gobbling it down if they eat it earlier?
My mother did, thats what I was referring to.
She had it on the table at 5, finished by 5.15😂

Lilymossflower · 28/01/2021 19:45

I eat dinner with my child at about 6.

Put him to bed then later on I have a snack/extra dinner before bed
