Not to go to job Interview?

louisekel · 26/01/2021 11:32

I have two job interviews via zoom tomorrow.
One at 12 pm and the other at 5.30pm
My brain honestly feels like it's going to explode
I'm trying to remember things about both companies but it's all getting jumbled up.
Would you cancel one ? And just focus on one?
Rather than two ?
Both customer service roles but one is for motor insurance and the other for communications.
I wouldn't mind either job if I'm honest
What would you do ?

Go to both. Write notes for each one, and have them in front of you to refer to, so you don’t get mixed up.

If you want a job, it really is a numbers game, so the more interviews you get, the more likely you are to be successful.

louisekel · 26/01/2021 11:37

@MaverickDanger yeah I've wrote so many notes.
I wouldn't be as nervous if they couldn't see me and I could read the notes.

Can you stick them to your laptop screen so you do t look like you’re glancing down all the time?

I’ve done two interviews in one day & it is really stressful so do feel for you!

louisekel · 26/01/2021 11:46

@MaverickDanger that's a good idea,I'm using the same examples for both jobs
I just hope I don't get the names wrong..

Go to both. Only think about the first one until that it over and done with and then prep for the second. You may have some lessons from the first that you can incorporate in to the second as well.

MasterBeth · 26/01/2021 11:51

Don’t try to “read” the notes, just scan them - make five or six bullet points, one or two words each, about each role to prompt you for the most important thing to say.

LagneyandCasey · 26/01/2021 11:52

Best of luck to you, op!

Sonders · 26/01/2021 11:53

I think you should go for both interviews.

Remember that the people in the 'room' are human too, and if they're not colossal dickheads would be totally empathetic and understanding if you trip on your words a little - most of us do it out of nerves anyway.

It's also totally ok to take notes! I'd just point out at the beginning that you have some notes with you, so if you look down a lot it's just because you want to make sure you've covered everything thoroughly :)

peak2021 · 26/01/2021 11:54

If they are both by Zoom, you can have notes placed behind the camera, and no-one will know.

Dixiechickonhols · 26/01/2021 11:55

Go to both. Practice for first one. Once that’s done do second. Good luck.

Scarby9 · 26/01/2021 11:55

Having done all that preparation, from now just focus on the first interview as if it was the only interview you were having.
Then when that one is over, shift your thinking to the second.
You can do this! ! !

Nopreservatives · 26/01/2021 11:56

Do both and don't be embarrassed about using notes. It's a good thing, it shows you prepared thoroughly.

louisekel · 26/01/2021 12:00

Thankyou I will do that.
Focus on the first one today.
Then I will have 4 hours to focus on the second one tomorrow.
At least I have the notes to refresh my memory

RunnerDuck2020 · 26/01/2021 12:00

I like it when people turn up to interviews with notes - it shows you care enough about the job to have prepared. I think a lot of the time just having the notes in front of you can be reassuring and you often end up not needing to refer to them anyway.

Go for both and treat yourself to a glass of wine / cake or whatever is your preferred treat tonight when you’ve got both out of the way. Good luck! X

louisekel · 26/01/2021 12:05

Does anyone else tell themselves they can't do something?
Like your brain tricks you into thinking your useless and can't do it?
How do I fake being confident ?

OP posts:
SlipperTripper · 26/01/2021 12:05

I had this a couple of weeks ago - was petrified about it. One at 12.30, one at 3.30

As it happens, it helped me get into the groove and although I spent the entire day and night before flapping and panicking, on the actual day I was so concentrated on getting through them, they flew by! Before the first one I went through the notes and cv, and didn't even look at the second one - didn't want to muddle myself. Had a cup of tea and lunch in between, gave myself a shake and went through my notes for that one thoroughly.

Being in the zone must have worked, as got offered both :-) and I'm CRAP at interviews! So Skype must work for me!

Poppins2016 · 26/01/2021 12:06

There's nothing wrong with your notes being obvious. Make notes beforehand, take notes during (e.g. things of note, questions you might want to ask at the end) and refer to them!

Another top tip is not to be afraid of interviewing the interviewer... ask questions and check that the role fits your needs. This also signals to the interviewer that you're serious about the role.

SlipperTripper · 26/01/2021 12:07

Pressed go too soon! Keep calm, prep as much as you can and be confident- best of luck, you'll be great!

Chilver · 26/01/2021 12:08

How to fake being confident? Smile!! And speak clearly and slowly (not too slow, but take your time to answer if you need it).

Chilver · 26/01/2021 12:09

And agree with pp: this is also about you interviewing the company to see if you WANT to work with them. So don't be shy to ask questions.

LemonSwan · 26/01/2021 12:12

12 - 5.30 is a long time!

Do your plan of focus only on the first, then the second tomorrow and you will be great.

You sound like a good person. Thats 99% of what they will be looking for. You can teach anyone to do a job who's willing to learn. You cant teach personality. Be honest. If you cant do something just say so and say you would be very excited to develop that skill.

fizzandchips · 26/01/2021 12:12

I like this phrase in times like this; “you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”!
Deep breaths. They can’t give you the job if they don’t interview you. You’ve done so well to get this far and after both interviews you’ll hopefully have a job which will be amazing. Best of luck.

Dozer · 26/01/2021 12:13

Go to both and do equal prep for both.

Madre1972 · 26/01/2021 12:14

I do a lot of interviews, it’s great when a candidate has notes, it shows me they have taken the time to prepare. I also expect a candidate to be nervous in some level, some will clearly be and some won’t. It’s part of my role as an interviewer to extract the information I need no matter how nervous the candidate and the best way to do that is to be a human being and understand how they may be feeling. Smile, check your notes, pause to think if you need to, ask for a moment if you need it and good luck with both interviews :)

Sethy38 · 26/01/2021 12:16

It doesn’t bode well for your employment OP if you feel your brain is going to explode and you’re having trouble balancing the information
