Ah-Cass or YOU-Cass? (UCAS)

DH and I disagree with the pronunciation of UCAS.

He says its AhCass, and I say its YOUCass, - his reference is from 30 odd years ago.

YABU - Ahcass
YANBU - YOUCass

ACAS = ay-cass
UCAS = you-cass
UCCA = ucca

MarshaBradyo · 25/01/2021 19:24

Outrageous it’s anything other than U ;

Glad voting agrees

I worked on the Acas Helpline years ago when people had to phone directory enquiries to get the phone number they needed. We used to get so many calls in August from people who thought they were phoning Ucas. All stopped once people started googling for a phone number instead of using directory enquiries. Grin

I left school in 1994 so I remember both UCCA (UCK-AH) and UCAS (you-cass). I think he's wrong.

You cass to me. as it is the University and College Application System? and it's Youniversity, not uhniversity, if that makes sense?

WeatherwaxOn · 25/01/2021 19:41

I used to work at a University about 30 years ago. My colleague and I used to call it 'uckers' but that was mainly to annoy our boss who was a stickler for precision.

Rockbird · 25/01/2021 19:42

Bloody hell. UCCA and PCAS merged 29 years ago? I'm so bloody old.

tassisssss · 25/01/2021 19:43

Whichever way I say my kids say the other. So I know they think I'm wrong. So I try to say it their way. But I can now now remember which way they think is correct.

It's definitely pronounced You-Cass. OP did you mean he says Uh-Cass, with the Uh being pronounced the same way as the letter U is in the word 'much'?

2pinkginsplease · 25/01/2021 19:58

It’s definitely you-cass. The U stands for University which is Pronounced YOU!

Dd is dealing with UCAS this year in preparation for leaving school in the summer. Teachers and teenagers all refer to it as YOU-CASS.

I always thought it was pronounced 'Yukkas' - like the spiky thing that died in my conservatory. Sad

He says its AhCass

He's mixing up UCAS with Bisto. Easy done.

Coughsyrupsucks · 25/01/2021 20:18

UH CAS but i’m old Grin

davidsSchitt · 25/01/2021 20:19

It's you-cass but he's saying u-cass. As in the u sound in up. Not uh, which is more ugh?
