To epilate just one leg

haiiiryyyleggs · 25/01/2021 10:28

Just used my epilator for the first time after it sitting in the box for years.

Wow.

I've done one leg and don't think I can face the other Grin

Is it worth sticking it out? How long do legs stay smooth?

I thought about my bikini line but balls to that!!

Go for it!!!

I bought an epilator in 1996. Used it for about a year or so. My legs have been hair free ever since. 😁

0blio · 25/01/2021 13:31

I've been using an epilator for years (legs still hairy) and it gets much easier with time. I even do my underarms with it too and it gives great results.

contrmary · 25/01/2021 13:36

Go for it. Some people have better results than others, but you really want it to be balanced on both legs.

Nopreservatives · 25/01/2021 13:36

When I first got mine (c. 30 years ago Shock ) I had to do small patches each day, but it does get much easier over time.

Now I can do both legs in about 15min and it's just a bit prickly. Worth persevering with, for the money I must have saved on waxing.

Okbye · 25/01/2021 13:41

Persist with it! It gets less painful the more you do it. I wouldn't be without mine, I've been epilating for about 15 years and only shave when I absolutely have to.

Keep on with it - they're a godsend and so convinient and less messy than waxing. Plus you can use it on your whole body (and face) worth every penny IMO!

Amberleaf12 · 25/01/2021 13:45

I have two sisters who used epilators.

One was consistent the other wasn’t.

The former has really wispy barely there hair on her legs now. The latter has thick hairy legs.

I say stick with it!

PuppyMonkey · 25/01/2021 13:49

Agree about it getting better and less painful the more you do it on your legs. And you’ll find you have to do it less and less over time. However I wouldn’t go anywhere near the bikini line, ouch.Shock

BoyTree · 25/01/2021 23:30

You do get used to it, but beware of ingrowing hairs. I loved epilating, but it left my skin in an awful state (it's quite sensitive anyway, tbh, hence trying to find an alternative to shaving).

Is it any worse than waxing though? I do get some spots from epliating, but I do from waxing or shaving too.
frazzledasarock · 25/01/2021 23:43

I epilate and the hairs are more sparse. With current lockdown I got fed up with not being able to get a bikini wax and bought an IPL hair remover. Just started using it so not sure if it will be any good.

But epilating does get easier I just can’t be faffed and want something more permanent.

WaltzesWithSnobs · 25/01/2021 23:59

I have an IPL @frazzledasarock and I'm very happy with it.

MenaiMna · 26/01/2021 00:00

If you do try the other leg take your very favourite and strongest pain relief one hour before. Once you're even you can quit. When I got mine (14yrs ago) and tried it the first time my screams were such that DH asked how did a dying walrus get into our bathroom?

DramaAlpaca · 26/01/2021 00:02

OP, take some paracetamol before you do the other leg. Maybe have a glass of wine too Wink

I've been epilating for years and most of my hair has given up trying to grow now. It gets less painful as you get used to it.

SheilaWilcox · 26/01/2021 00:06

It gets better, but don't try to do it on long hair the first time. Shave, wait for a little growth, then start doing it. After that, if you do it every few days it will be pretty painless.

LegoAndLolDolls · 26/01/2021 00:08

I'm.gping to go against the grain and say dont do it. There is only so much pain for one day. Maybe do your knees but leave the rest for tomorrow.

They are good but personally I have work my way up the pain scale. The more you use it, the less it hurts. I normally just do one knee at a time and sing profanities as I do it

Nonameslob · 26/01/2021 04:49

I've been epilating for years and I barely feel a thing now. You must use it on fairly short hair though. I used to use it on my bikini line too but can't seem to cope with that anymore.

haiiiryyyleggs · 26/01/2021 10:31

Wow so many replies thanks!

I suffered it and did both legs, they felt very sore and red and bumpy yesterday but appear to be fine today.

If they stay smooth for a decent amount of time I will try and keep it up!

I tried my bikini line but i just don't think I can cope with that Grin

You can buy emla cream which numbs the skin - think theres a beauty version called scream cream. Theres also a time during your cycle that your skins way more sensitive. Def run a flannel/stubby ball thing over legs while in the shower then moisturise to stop ingrown hairs

CigarsofthePharoahs · 26/01/2021 11:10

I've been somewhat inconsistently epilating my legs for several years. The front and outside of my shins is permanently hair free now. The inner and back still have hair, but it's slower and sparser.
If only the hairs on my chin would get the message.

ATowelAndAPotato · 26/01/2021 18:01

Large glass of wine always helped me, and something interesting on the tv to take my mind off it!

ClaudiaWankleman · 26/01/2021 18:04

You could always just do the one leg, but you will only be able to wear Angelina Jolie 2012 Oscars dresses.

TheVolturi · 26/01/2021 18:15

What sort of pain is it? Trying to work out if I need an epilator!

TheVolturi · 26/01/2021 18:16

Just realised that sounds like I like pain🤣 I don't!

quickkimchi · 26/01/2021 18:31

SheilaWilcox is spot on, don't do it if you're completely au naturel, shave and epilate a couple of times a week thereafter, it will be virtually painless and after a month or so you won't need to do it so often. Also paracetamol beforehand (I do this for my first go in the spring if I've been a bit lax over winter).

LegoAndLolDolls · 26/01/2021 18:45

Oh God dont wait for it to grow back. Do it weekly if you want to carry on. I did mine sporadically until one day I couldn't hack it any more.

@TheVolturi it's like red hot needles. Lots of them. It only hurts while you do however. But the more you do it, the more you get desensitized to it.
