Does anyone feel prettier in their glasses, and how do you feel about that?

I think I do, but don't want to feel ugly when I'm not wearing them!

Pretty is just not my style. I associate it with being young and girly and flowery dresses, and find I get treated like that (or did when I was younger).

With my thick rimmed glasses on I got more respect from senior men people at work. I knew I liked them when my dad disapproved because I didn’t look pretty!

I’d like to think I look sophisticated, or strong maybe, or at least more fun, but maybe I’m kidding myself. They suit my personality I think.

Splodgetastic · 24/01/2021 21:19

I always used to buy into the thing that boys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses but started wearing them more than my contacts when I had an accident for reasons that are too complicated to explain and realised that my face is really quite boring without them!

Livpool · 24/01/2021 21:33

Definitely- I have worn them since I was 8 - so 32 years. I think I look weird without them now.

Gingaaarghpussy · 24/01/2021 21:41

I only wear my glasses when I'm out because the world is too fuzzy if I don't and it annoys me. I have to take them off to read aswell.
I kinda use them like I would shades, I hide behind them. Not logical but I am different when I wear them.

Thefeep · 24/01/2021 22:35

I hate them. I think they make me look old .

FolkyFoxFace · 24/01/2021 23:05

I've always worn glasses. I like how they look, but I also like myself without them too. My eyes are big so it's nice to not have anything covering them - I wore lenses for my wedding day because of this, and absolutely hated the feeling of them. I looked how I wanted but prefer the comfort of glasses.

I wear nice eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara so my glasses don't "hide" my eyes too much. I also have several pairs of glasses so that I don't get bored of frames - daytime ones, going out ones, a pair I don't mind getting messy/bent with exercise or something, and a "professional" work pair. 😂

OkOkWhatsNext · 24/01/2021 23:08

I look better in my glasses I think. Without them my eyes look small and too close together. I can make them look okay with a lot of black eyeliner, but rarely do that these days. I have started wearing my contact lenses more recently when I go to shops as glasses get steamed up with a mask on, and find it a right pain as I feel I need to put a load of eye makeup on just to look alive.

laudete · 24/01/2021 23:41

I feel prettier in contact lens but that's entirely subjective. It probably makes a difference what age you start wearing spectacles; it's hard to change what you expect to see in the mirror, which feeds into whether you feel you look like "you" and, hence, subjectively "prettier" with or without glasses.

littlepattilou · 24/01/2021 23:43

I look OK with them on, but better without. I look 5 years older with them on than I do without them on. I only wear them for reading though, and don't need them any other time. Thankfully.

whoamongstus · 25/01/2021 00:02

I liked the way I looked with my glasses on. But when I went back for another eye test six (oops) years later, they told me the original prescription was either wrong or my eyes had corrected themselves and I didn't need them any more 🙃🙃🙃

It was only a very small prescription anyway but getting them stopped so many headaches, so I was pretty confused when I didn't need them any more and I miss them... I was tempted to buy the same frames again with clear lenses ha!

TheBlueStocking · 25/01/2021 00:06

Yeah. I luckily got some NHS glasses that I always get compliments on. And then I've got a pretty glasses chain for them, that's just from Amazon.

I highly recommend a glasses chain.

LoungeLizardLhama · 25/01/2021 00:37

I look way more attractive in glasses, I think I really suit them probably because they hide my eye bags. I can’t have any though because my eyesight isn’t bad enough yet. I realise this should be considered a good thing at my age (47) but I Want Glasses! 😭

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/01/2021 01:31

I'm very shortsighted and have worn contacts in my younger years, now I embrace my glasses and have an expensive eyewear habit...

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/01/2021 03:30

No. Hate glasses they are too thick and heavy and make my eyes look like they aren’t even open. They’re not an option for me anymore due to my eyes being too different anyway. I have to wear custom contacts. I might get implants one day though....

knitnerd90 · 25/01/2021 06:59

I switch depending on practicality. Glasses have become vastly more stylish and now I think that I look equally good but different depending on whether I am wearing glasses or contacts.

If we were talking the ones I had as a teenager then heck no Grin

Mypathtriedtokillme · 25/01/2021 07:05

I wear my glasses all the time.
I wore contacts constantly during my early teens till 30’s.
Now I prefer my glasses as I find contacts irritating

If I’m not wearing lenses of some kind I’m just a blurry blob to myself so that could attractive if your really into impressionist art?
Or I actually look like my preschools picture of me.

Blram · 25/01/2021 07:06

I've worn glasses since I was 9 years old, in my late 20s/early 30s, yes it took that long Grin I finally found a style that actually suits me and I think makes me look good, but even before that I hated seeing myself without glasses, my eyes always seem sunken in without them.

Oblomov20 · 25/01/2021 07:15

No. I never wear my glasses for a photo or a night out.

paintedpanda · 25/01/2021 07:54

I've worn glasses for about 17 years now. I hate my face without them (although I hate my face with them too, but that's just because I'm ugly in general). I think I use them almost like a shield, like I hide behind them and feel vulnerable and exposed without them.
DS has just been prescribed glasses and he looks strange in them, but I guess that will just take some getting used to.
