Does anyone feel prettier in their glasses, and how do you feel about that?

I think I do, but don't want to feel ugly when I'm not wearing them!

A friend had laser eye treatment.
Without specs he looks like a photo-fit of a serial killer. Truly horrific.

Without my specs I look like a photo-fit of Shergar.

Shaniac · 24/01/2021 19:33

Photo-fit of shergar Grin ffs

Seventytwo · 24/01/2021 19:37

IRL: definitely more attractive without (even my DC say so)
On Zoom calls etc: 100% better with glasses. For some reason my (probably more accurate) screen image means I look like a gnarly old foot without them.

Sheleg · 24/01/2021 19:39

Without my glasses, my eyes look like piss-holes in the snow!

SpudsandGravy · 24/01/2021 19:41

Not prettier, but maybe a little less boring :)

Wiredforsound · 24/01/2021 19:44

My DP looks super hot in his glasses, like a sexy superbrainiac.

pensivepigeon · 24/01/2021 19:47

Yes. Can't see wrinkles, shadows under eyes or baggy eyes. However, I realised I had, over the years, tuned my makeup to wearing glasses, with less eyeliner, I don't look so bad without them.

CausingChaos2 · 24/01/2021 19:50

Think I look better without them but hate the feeling of everything distant being blurred. My OHs mum recently had an eye test and was declared to no longer need glasses - I had no idea this could happen and live in hope I won’t need mine one day either!

nothingnessandeverything · 24/01/2021 19:50

I don't wear or need glasses but reading this thread is seriously making me consider getting a pair. I'm up for looking prettier.

MindyStClaire · 24/01/2021 19:53

Yes I much prefer how I look with mine, and wore them on my wedding day.

This happened to my dm! She got glasses in her 30s then by her late 40s she didnt need them anymore. Now in her late 50s she has them to wear to watch tv and read and thats it. So bizarre.

Buttercupcup · 24/01/2021 20:05

I’m a total glasses wearer, I have several pairs depending on outfits/occasions! I feel better wearing my glasses just feel a bit plain without them. I recently had a contact lens trial to try and combat glasses/mask fog at work and my son told me I look weird without glasses 😂

bridgetreilly · 24/01/2021 20:08

I don't think I feel prettier/less pretty with them, but I definitely don't look like me when I take them off. I've been wearing glasses for 40 years and wearing them all the time for 35. Me without glasses looks like a stranger.

RuthW · 24/01/2021 20:09

I just look so old without them. People with glasses definitely look younger. I love mine.

CounsellorTroi · 24/01/2021 20:13

Yes they are a part of me. Also frame my eyes which are a nice greeny blue.

This gives me hope! I hate wearing glasses and think wearing them makes me look way older. I also hate it when they fog up when going inside from outside, and at any point when I’m wearing a face mask.

I usually wear contacts but worry about getting water in my eyes. Not ideal as this is a rainy island and I like water sports.

I’d love to wake up one day and just be able to see. Laser eye surgery is not for me so I’m stuck with either contacts or glasses Sad

I agree they can cover up a multitude of sins around the eyes. Also if I got contacts I'd know how old I actually look which is not necessarily a good thing.
TroysMammy · 24/01/2021 20:18

No. I made a bad choice with the frames and I look like my Nanna. When I take them off then I do look prettier, blurry but prettier Grin

ToffeePennie · 24/01/2021 20:25

I can’t wear contacts.
I have worn glasses for nearly 30 years now so I don’t care about them.
They are a part of me, without them I wouldn’t be who I am today and therefore I don’t think they’re ugly or pretty, just another part of my face.

RowanAlong · 24/01/2021 20:51

Hmm this has changed for me. Teens and twenties only wore glasses when I ran out of contact lenses. Now having had kids, and getting pale and tired looking (plus sagging eyelids), I think glasses actually distract from ageing face and make me look a bit more polished! Maybe.

ComDummings · 24/01/2021 20:54

Past the age of about 40 people look younger in glasses. It’s weird, I’ve worn a combination of contacts and glasses since I was about 10, I’m in my 30s now and feel I’m starting to look older in my contacts and it’s depressing. As others have said I think in the 30s & 40s glasses hide the fine lines around the eyes. Glasses are adorable.

updownroundandround · 24/01/2021 21:09

I don't wear glasses, but when I started dating my DH, he wore contact lenses and I was a little ''meh'' about his looks (but I loved his personality). When we'd been seeing each other for about a month he arrived for a date wearing glasses, and I was instantly more attracted to him !

It was a bit strange, because I'd never dated anyone who wore glasses before, so I didn't usually 'fancy' guys in glasses.............but with him.............I loved how he looked in them Grin

MotherForker · 24/01/2021 21:09

I find it hard to wear my glasses in zoom calls because of the reflection

JorisBonson · 24/01/2021 21:11

I hate wearing my specs and will only do so at home. Never leave the house without contacts in.

Want2beme · 24/01/2021 21:17

I can't stand having to wear glasses, but lenses aren't an option for me. I look ugly in my specs.
