Dirty toilet water splashed in my eye

WilsonMilson · 22/01/2021 13:43

Don’t laugh, but I was cleaning the toilet after my lovely ds had left a gigantic skid mark (sorry) in the bowl, was clearly too vigorous with the loo brush and plunged it into the by now rather murky water, splashing what I can only describe as fecal matter infused water on to my cheek and right eye.

Washed my face and rinsed my eye with cold water for a while and I’ve used a sterile blephaclean wipe. I really don’t want to have to bother the gp for eye drops right now. What do you think, have I now entirely lost the plot panicking about non events, or will I get an infection? Have I done enough to wash it off. Aargh!!

Fucking EWW!!!

BrumBoo · 22/01/2021 13:47

You've rinsed it, it should be fine. Its definitely nothing to bother the GP about at the moment, unless your eye gets sore/weepy or showing signs of conjunctivitis. You could ask a pharmacist if you're really worried, they may suggest eye drops. I highly doubt your eye will turn green and fall out, but I'm not medical expert so please don't sue me if it does Wink.

Lockheart · 22/01/2021 13:51

@CrotchBurn

Fucking EWW!!!
Helpful.

You'll be fine OP. Nothing to bother the GP about unless you actually start to experience any symptoms but I doubt you'd get any. Buy some over the counter eye drops from a pharmacy if you're worried.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 22/01/2021 13:54

You'll be fine OP. Just keep tabs on your eye (the worst result of this would be conjunctivitis I would have thought).

CrotchBurn · 22/01/2021 13:56

@Lockheart

Considering your reply is basically a carbon copy of a PP, are you really one to talk? 🧐

majesticallyawkward · 22/01/2021 13:57

Gross but it's not the end of the world. You might get a touch of pink eye, but if you washed straight away (and who wouldn't?!) it'll most likely be fine. I wouldn't bother a gp with it, a pharmacist can give eye drops if you need them though.

The dangers of having kids eh? The amount of icky stuff that ends up on you 🤢

KeyWorker · 22/01/2021 13:57

You’ve done the right thing by rinsing your eye. Try not to worry, easier said than done through! I’d only think GP or pharmacist if you experience soreness/itching ect.

Beamur · 22/01/2021 13:57

Get some eyedrops just in case.

GreenPlum · 22/01/2021 13:58

DD's boyfriend is in our bubble and he came over a couple of months ago with a minging water bottle

WilsonMilson · 22/01/2021 13:59

I’m so jumpy about everything at the moment, bloody covid is making me fear even the smallest illness in case I have to bother the NHS.

God I really hope I don’t get an eye infection - imagine having to tell my gp how I came to get shit in my eye.

It should be fine, but if it were me I'd pop out and pick up an eye bath from Boots.

GreenPlum · 22/01/2021 14:01

Sorry - posted too soon.

Anyway, cleaned out the water bottle with a bottle brush and got a splash in my eye. Rinsed my eye. Thought no more of it. Had a terrible infection a couple of days later.
Went to pharmacy and got ointment that cleared it up fast.

Hope you're ok.

Lochroy · 22/01/2021 14:12

I think you'll be fine. I'm sure it's no worse than rubbing your eye after touching door handles and so on like people used to do pre-Covid!

Brefugee · 22/01/2021 14:13

How old is DS? Big enough to leave a skid-mark = big enough to help clean it up (if small) or clean it up themselves (if older) with a reminder to fucking well do it automatically and not leave for someone else to find.

If you've washed it all out it should be fine, OP.

BashfulClam · 22/01/2021 14:23

If you try an eye infection you can see the pharmacist first. You just need to mention it was water while cleaning the loo and not go into detail. Although it’s happened to me before and I never got an eye infection.

ladymuck111 · 22/01/2021 14:29

You'll be fine. I once worked in a care home and was caring for someone end of life who tried to grab my eye. Got home looked in the mirror and there was something quite gross on the side of my face near my eye. Not one colleague told me!!

I did the same as you and all was ok.

I usually keep a bottle of Optrex lotion, and a plastic eyebath in my cabinet for anything eye related, it cleans and refreshes your eyes, like if you get anything in your eye whatever. I had a little tiny insect fly into my eye last summer,I managed to get it out, then used the Optrex lotion to bathe the eye after..

This product has Witch hazel in it, and you can buy bottles of this in chemists, and its cheaper, and works much the same a Optrex.

lljkk · 22/01/2021 14:38

I have done this, not rinsed, done nothing tbh other than wipe my eye, no signs of infection followed.

WilsonMilson · 22/01/2021 14:58

Thanks, you’re all making me feel better, still feeling rather queasy when I think about it but hoping my eye washing has done enough.
Honestly, I thought my days of dealing with my ds’s excrement were long gone!

He thinks it’s wildly hilarious of course.

This is TMI but I was once wiping my nieces bum you know bum in the air and i wont go into detail but she had a poorly belly and some bodily fluid went in my face and eye. Rinsed it out (considered bathing in bleach) and was fine no infection.

Traumatised and considering being the childless auntie who gets drunk at Christmas in the corner but my eye was fine!

Oh he'll make someone a great husband one day! Sounds delightful Hmm
itsme189 · 22/01/2021 15:22

@Veterinari Christ that's dramatic, children have always found poo funny. He didn't throw his poo at his Mum it was an accident!

pelosi · 22/01/2021 15:36

It’ll be fine OP. B&M don’t safety goggles for £2.
