Dirty toilet water splashed in my eye

Don’t laugh, but I was cleaning the toilet after my lovely ds had left a gigantic skid mark (sorry) in the bowl, was clearly too vigorous with the loo brush and plunged it into the by now rather murky water, splashing what I can only describe as fecal matter infused water on to my cheek and right eye.

Washed my face and rinsed my eye with cold water for a while and I’ve used a sterile blephaclean wipe. I really don’t want to have to bother the gp for eye drops right now. What do you think, have I now entirely lost the plot panicking about non events, or will I get an infection? Have I done enough to wash it off. Aargh!!

@itsme189 as much as I’m sorry for your trauma - and omg how awful for you both, reading that has made me feel much better!

@pelosi actually made a mental note to wear my sunglasses next time. Grin

I’ve done this (more than once Blush) and it’s always been fine - just rinse well and try not to think about it!

Don't worry OP.

My ds sprayed shit into my eyes and mouth when he was 4 months old.
I was horrified. Jumped in the shower. Scrubbed my face, washed my eyes out and gargled mouth wash etc..

I was absolutely fine if slightly traumatised ...

Good news everyone, I’m sure you’ve all been on tenterhooks wondering the outcome Grin . So far so good, no pink eye or looming conjunctival crisis.

@romany4 the mere thought of that is both absolutely horrifying and completely comical.

Yay!
I didn't want to worry you but the worst eye infection I have had in recent years was from a splash of liquid from a manure pile going in my eye.

@WilsonMilson

I’m so jumpy about everything at the moment, bloody covid is making me fear even the smallest illness in case I have to bother the NHS.

God I really hope I don’t get an eye infection - imagine having to tell my gp how I came to get shit in my eye.

I'm almost certain you'll be fine. Don't worry about it :). If your eye starts getting sore, phone the GP. You might not even have to explain how it came to be infected (lots of people get eye infections from not cleaning make-up brushes, poking with mascara wands etc), but even if you do, they will have heard it - and worse - many times before.

You don't have to go into detail anyway. Just say you were cleaning the loo and water splashed into your eye :).

still wondering why your DS didn't clean it up himself though. Is he in the habit of leaving skid marks for someone else to clean?

romany4 · 23/01/2021 16:11

@WilsonMilson

I still shudder at the memory and he's 23 now! Grin

Flush it out with saline for a few days just in case. Most chemists & Boots sell it for contact lense disinfecting . A&E use it to flush out dirt & bacteria from wounds, before treating them.
