I think he is going to be a very positive influence on the racial divide in America. He's proudly from an Irish immigrant family/heritage.

Love the shots of the marines on the boat.

Roussette · 20/01/2021 17:09

What a great speech from a thoroughly decent man not speaking out of his arse.

RedToothBrush · 20/01/2021 17:09

@DGRossetti

It's all a bit Kennedy and Camelot, isn't it ?
It maybe. But Kennedy was popular. Perhaps more so retrospectively...
AcrossthePond55 · 20/01/2021 17:10

Just 'followed' @POTUS and @VP.

Just unfollowed 'UnfollowTrump'.

Hatstrategicallydipped · 20/01/2021 17:10

Camelot?

chomalungma · 20/01/2021 17:10

It's a shame we are stuck with our leaders in the UK and their divisiveness.

BruceAndNosh · 20/01/2021 17:11

For I moment I misheard and thought Biden said "asian virus" but it was Raging Virus. Phew

gwenneh · 20/01/2021 17:11

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted.

...but Biden has this facial expression that is EXACTLY like Billy Bob Thornton as the US President in Love, Actually. And I CANNOT unsee.

Agree.

America had to go through 4 years of Trump to get to this point. We will get there!!
ListeningQuietly · 20/01/2021 17:12

One of his best bits of oratory in a long while.

Onwards and upwards

minou123 · 20/01/2021 17:12

It is a fantastic and inspiring speech.

But he could wiggle his hips and sing the hokey cokey - it still would be better than Trumps speech.

And I would join in

thecatfromjapan · 20/01/2021 17:13

I love this speech. It really addresses the feeling many have that we've been through something appalling.

I like the way it draws on Democratic history - it seems more relevant and meaningful to do that. I like the way it addresses C21 issues head on. I love the call to unity.

I just love the unflinching, unembarrassed call to decency.

Definitely meeting the moment.

Roussette · 20/01/2021 17:13

Someone posted two pics, one of Jill Biden and one of Melania in similar colours on inauguration day, saying 'Jill Biden will never be Melania no matter how hard she tries'

I posted 'thank goodness for that'.

My whole self would be in.

You are more optimistic than me. Its going to be a long wait yet...

It's not so straightforward as a new Prime Minister to undo the division that Brexit has caused this country.

thecatfromjapan · 20/01/2021 17:14

democratic, not Democratic.

Hatstrategicallydipped · 20/01/2021 17:14

Adam Boulton on Sky News was saying earlier that he irritates his speech writers frequently by being very specific about what he wants to say or something.

Oh great - Amazing Grace. Great taste in music Mr. President!

DGRossetti · 20/01/2021 17:14

It's a shame we are stuck with our leaders in the UK and their divisiveness.
It only takes a moderately competent POTUS to make our shower look like they'd lose a counting competition with their shoes and socks off.

Given that Biden seems more than competent, and he has a more than competent VP, I can't see Boris and the Gang staying top of the charts now.

BruceAndNosh · 20/01/2021 17:15

Garth Brooks obviously left his horse outside.
I mean the bandy legs not the hat

HunkyPunk · 20/01/2021 17:15

Congratulations, USA, you came good!! Smile

But you're not. If we've learnt anything here we've learnt that we can make a change.

I'm not 100 percent sure how the UK decides when major elections are held, but your turn will come. And we'll be there cheering you on.

Quite.

We are going to have to get used to some real hardship before things turn around. If they ever do...

Roominmyhouse · 20/01/2021 17:15

Wonderful speech. Made me feel very emotional. I genuinely feel like some hope has been restored in the world.
