Anybody else sick of going for walks?

There’s only so much walking around a housing estate you can do. There’s muddy fields behind me and a walk around an old fort. And it’s raining. We do have a treadmill but that’s even less inspiring.

Yes, I would much rather spend hours on the tube.

ichundich · 19/01/2021 23:38

I'm very bored too. We try alternating walks with playgrounds, bike rides and roller skating, but it's still an unpleasant activity (for me, not the kids) most days. I have stopped washing clothes after every outing because it's pointless and not great for my washing machine. Can't wait for spring and life to be normal!

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 19/01/2021 23:54

It’s pretty dull. We can choose between a very muddy river bank where you might see a duck or a new housing estate. Both options are a bit overdone now. Ooh but if you walk past the little Sainsbury’s you can stop off and get a Costa from the machine.

I seem to end up going out at the same time each day which is sad because you see the same people and the same dogs every time.

@DeepfriedPizza

There’s a woman on YouTube that does walking videos. There’s a bit more too it than just walking on the spot but not as energetic as running. I tried it once when it was too icy to run outside and it was quite good.
Leslie Sansone. Definitely a good workout as you walk! Grin

Yep, we live in a very small town with a very small park that everyone seems to be walking through, nowhere else to walk, most of the streets are cul-de-sac's so can't even take a different route there & back & the pavements are narrow so keeping away from people is so much harder, alot of people around here don't seem to like walking single file when passing someone 🙄
I've got the dentist tomorrow, I've never ever looked forward to it.... until now, a change of scenery Hmm

Oooohbehave · 20/01/2021 10:32

Yes. I only really want to walk to get somewhere, trudging round in the mud is not enjoyable for me, unless there's a nice pub at the end of it.

ReallySpicyCurry · 20/01/2021 10:42

Yes and I LOVE walking. But we're at that awkward stage where the really good walks aren't toddler friendly, so we're on the same few routes and I'm totally over them

ParlezVousWronglais · 20/01/2021 10:46

No I love walking but some of the quieter spots I like are now full of people and everything is getting very muddy and waterlogged.

I really need to get a pair of wellies.

randomsabreuse · 20/01/2021 10:52

I'm not sick of walks in general. I am heartily sick of the only walk close enough to my house that it can be done when DH is on call and as he's on call I have to go with him and the DC on it so I get no peace and quiet. The DC only enjoy it if we stop at the play park or accidentally meet other kids. There are so many nice walks around that are too far from home or too long for kids in soaking weather or just not ideal with 2 kids messing around (too many road crossings or too close to river / part frozen canal) so it's frustrating to be limited to 1 crappy walk.

BettyAndVeronica · 20/01/2021 11:01

My DC(6) is with you. Really doesn't want to go on walks. It's hard because I understand it's boring and repetitive but also need to get fresh air / get off the sofa

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 20/01/2021 11:04

Yep, there was at least some interest in the summer because we were exploring local walks that we hadn't been on before and using google maps to find green spaces we didn't know existed, now we've been to all of them a dozen times each and it's just mud, mud, mud.

Fed up!

notacooldad · 20/01/2021 11:08

I was living it until the rain came!
We had two fabulous walks over the weekend and I had planned two nice walks by my self for Monday and Tuesday after work at 12 but the rain was so heavy.
I don't subscribe to the bullshit phrase of 'There's no such thing as bad weather.............'
Of course there bloody well is!

KnobblyWand · 20/01/2021 11:33

We've started park hunting. The parks here are still open, and the other day we ventured onto a housing estate we'd never been on before, and found a cool one with a net swing. Result.

MisterT373 · 20/01/2021 11:49

I try and do a couple of circuits of a local park (1200 steps on the Fitbit per circuit). Sometimes if I feel particularly adventurous at the end of a circuit I go back the way I came.

At that point I've never felt so alive.

BlusteryLake · 20/01/2021 11:54

Things I will permanently expunge from my life once all this is over :

Walks
Loungewear
Zoom conversations after 5pm
Any form of online children's class

EstuaryBird · 20/01/2021 11:56

I’m a long term Rambler/Hiker and I don’t mind puddles and mud at all. I get out most days and I enjoy it, whether it’s with a friend or on my own.

BUT....I’m sick to the teeth of cleaning my boots. I’m fed up of not being able to stop for a drink. I want to have lunch with friends in a pub. I’m really missing walking in a group with Ramblers.

Hiking is ‘normally’ social and fun but now I find myself talking to trees 🙁

tofuschnitzel · 20/01/2021 12:04

@Sparrowfeeder So sorry to hear that @Summerdayshaze*, obviously nothing I can say is able to make it better but that really sucks flowers

I will think of you the next time I feel grumpy about walking and remember how lucky I am that I can. I had chronic fatigue a couple of years ago so I know something of being immobile (on a much lesser scale ofc).*

I assure you that disabled people do not want to be used in this way. Do not look at us and use our disability as a way to remind yourself how lucky you are to not be disabled. We're not here on this earth to inspire able-bodied people.

I think you took this in entirely a different way to what was intended. My mum who lives with me is disabled, I have had a (temp) disability myself and expect to have it again and worse as I age. I am not intending to patronise but I wanted to acknowledge and empathise with someone’s suffering in a thread where it was passed by. Please don’t project something else onto me. Sorry that you are also suffering btw. Flowers

Yep, I'm mightily sick of a walk being touted as a fun activity! It's raining all day long, my youngest is too young to walk very far. It's boring! I used to like a walk as a means to get somewhere, like walking to a pub for a roast. Walking about in the rain for no reason is just shite for me.

I've just recovered from Covid and could really use something fun to look forward to. So I've decided to look forward to warmer weather. Hopefully that will happen regardless of the Covid situation.
