Is this actually allowed?

I'm planning our wedding next year and I've just had a venue invite us to look around today or tomorrow. AIBU to be surprised at this?

I assumed that this wasn't allowed during lockdown, but they've just said to wear masks.

I mean, it's probably less risky than it will be straight after lockdown because there'll be no-one using the restaurant, less guests etc, but still, I didn't think this would be allowed.

Can’t see a problem. As long as masks are worn and social distancing is applied. Presumably it’s a large space you’ll be looking at and not for too long.
But don’t go if you are worried or you feel it’s not essential at the moment.

Aprilx · 18/01/2021 09:57

It’s a business, most are allowed to open I thought.

Jubaju · 18/01/2021 09:58

It doesn’t seem to come under any of the reasons you are allowed to leave the house

lemonsandlimes123 · 18/01/2021 09:58

No of course it’s not ‘allowed’. It’s not essential and doesn’t fall into any of the categories that you are allowed to leave your home for. Use your common sense.

Butterybiscuit · 18/01/2021 10:01

I think because it’s a business it might be allowed

VapeVamp12 · 18/01/2021 10:01

Can’t see a problem.

Wow.

It's not essential. We're in lockdown.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 18/01/2021 10:03

Yes, it's perfectly fine. My organisation has a wedding venue and we're showing couples around.

nancy75 · 18/01/2021 10:04

Estate agents can do viewings, can’t see why this would be much different

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2021 10:05

Never had a wow before. 😂

That’s pretty much what I thought. But we are in a lockdown you know!

Although I am off to work shortly. ☹️

If you can socially distance eg 3m+ is recommended and it's within 5 miles or so of your house then it isn't doing any harm but no I'm not sure it's technically allowed unless it's a church and you are going for private prayer (we can't show people around even)

BellCurve · 18/01/2021 10:23

So it isn't that clear cut then...

I assumed that staff can go in, but that as clients we wouldn't be able to, but clearly the answers varying mean it's not obvious.

I honestly don't know if it's actually 'allowed' TBF. I was probably coming at it from the wrong angle. I think a lot of key workers would look at a job involving showing two people around a deserted wedding venue as a fairly low risk one.

But if the police pulled you over and you said 'we are going to look at a wedding venue' that would probably be problematical WRT lockdown rules.

You could muddy the water further by walking there and claiming it as exercise.

@Sparklingbrook it's got to be low risk, but I don't want to do it if it's not allowed. I never even considered we could until I got the email.

OP posts:
BellCurve · 18/01/2021 10:32

@lemonsandlimes123 as I said, I never considered it would be possible, so it's surprised me and that's why I'm looking in to it. Is there really any need to be so rude to people? I was looking for information rather than abuse, but thanks anyway...

It's much lower risk than queuing for a takeaway coffee which is very much allowed but I know that's not the point here.
You could email them and express surprise then put it off.

I assumed it was me being referred to as a simpleton @BellCurve. I think you are in the clear here. Grin

lemonsandlimes123 · 18/01/2021 10:36

Certainly wasn’t aimed specifically at you Sparkling! You are far from the only one

Godimabitch · 18/01/2021 10:36

It's a business, they're allowed to be open unless they've been instructed to close. Its not just "essential" businesses allowed to stay open.

But you CAN move house during lockdown though you can't get married (at least not a "normal" wedding).
BellCurve · 18/01/2021 10:36

@Sparklingbrook their first reply was rude too, following it up with a second one prompted my response to it. It's just not necessary!

I mean if it is genuinely allowed, I don't want the venue to think I'm messing them about by not visiting. Seems you can't win really.

What bit of " a reasonable excuse to leave your home" are people still not getting?
Looking at a wedding venue is NOT a reasonable excuse to leave your home and I can't believe anyone thinks it could possibly be so.

Thanks-so I am just one of the simpletons. Lovely. Hmm
