To ask what winds you up even though you know it’s irrational

Lighthearted (I think!)

A few things popped into my head today which irrationally annoy me and I figured I can’t be the only one who gets irrationally angry about stuff like this

Those I can think of now are

 • People who say ‘I don’t drive’ when they actually can’t drive - you wouldn’t say you ‘don’t perform brain surgery’ if you can’t so why is it different with driving
 • People with double barrelled / hyphenated first names, eg, Peggy Sue - I’ve never heard one that doesn’t sound twee and they just make me think of weird American cults
 • people who still have their Christmas trees up

I realise none of these things actually affect me - they just annoy me! 😂

What winds you up?

The woman on R4 whose answer to a question was. “So ,yeah, no, so definitely 100%.”

FrankButchersDickieBow · 17/01/2021 19:14

Impressionists. Not the artists, but the twats off the television.

I have to switch over/change radio station if one comes on.

I don't get it. If you want to hear, for example, David Beckham speak, just listen to David Beckham. Why listen to someone doing a usually very poor, impersonation of him speaking.

Grrrr

SpnBaby1967 · 17/01/2021 19:16

Anyone who uses the phrase "making memories" usually with their "little family".....makes me want to put my fist through their skull Grin

Also suggestions to go for a walk, as if it's some kind of fix all for all of lifes woes. No, I dont want another fucking walk around my dreary housing estate!!

cptartapp · 17/01/2021 19:17

Grandparents, particularly grandmothers pushing the pram whilst the parents trot along behind.

God yes - just like ‘making traditions’ at Christmas! You don’t ‘make’ a tradition, some things just become traditional

People who sing along to the radio when it's on at work. I never know where to look. Particularly if they're really going for it.

People who work in a school and say they're teachers. They're not. And that's ok!

Rambling!

Saying something not funny and then laughing about it.

People unaware of their surroundings/oblivious as to what's going on around them. I.e walking into people around them, standing blocking the aisle in Tesco.

Veryverycalmnow · 17/01/2021 19:31

At the moment, I get fed up with hearing, "in these trying times..." and similar phrases.
I'm someone who says, "I don't drive!" I've never realised it's annoying. I always thought it would sound like I've tried many times and failed or wasn't allowed or something if I said, "I can't drive!" I haven't ever wanted or needed to drive a car and I don't generally accept lifts when offered as I get a bit queasy in cars. But might change it to, "I can't drive!" to avoid upsetting anyone...
I get irrationally annoyed by too many things to list, but some have been mentioned.

supercee · 17/01/2021 19:42

@MattWanksock God yes, singing at work. My office is the worst! When I first started I couldn't believe my ears, have never worked in an office where folk sang along, my toes curled. A year later and I'm still not used to it. STFU!

MattWanksock · 17/01/2021 19:50

@supercee why do they do it? Last time I was in the office was just before Christmas and I was sat opposite someone. I couldn't look up in case I made eye contact. Then the person next to them chimed in. Most awkward moment of 2020.

GarlicMonkey · 17/01/2021 19:50

The bloke who does the weather on our regional tea time news program (Look North). I can't stand the sight of him.

Catty1720 · 17/01/2021 19:55

When your watching tv normally a celeb quiz and Someone whose a comedian is on who has to try and be funny alllllllll the way through the programme to the point it’s awkward

Naticus · 17/01/2021 19:55

The baby needs changed.
The dog needs walked.

I've only seen it in the last few years, but shouldn't it be;

The baby needs to be fed / feeding etc...

Ooh and ect instead of etc...

Mcmole · 17/01/2021 19:59

People who stop at the bottom or top of escalators instead of getting out of the way.

People who park next to you in an empty carpark, sit next to you on the bus or train when there are totally empty pairs of seats, or who choose a table next to you in an empty cafe or restaurant.

Maybe just people in general Grin

Viviennemary · 17/01/2021 19:59

People who park outside my house. How very dare they. And people who park on the road even if they've got driveways for four or five cars. Really annoying.

Catty1720 · 17/01/2021 20:01

@Mcmole nail on the head there just people Grin

Grits · 17/01/2021 20:05

'RANT OVER!!!!!'

So annoying Grin

ChikiTIKI · 17/01/2021 20:06

People who use the wrong tools for cooking and eating.

A butter knife to cut cheese
A soup spoon to eat cereal
A spatula thing (for flipping eggs etc), using it to stir food while it's cooking

LawnFever · 17/01/2021 20:09

People calling the little stretch of shops near me ‘the village’ when we live in an area of a massive city and it’s the furthest from a village I’ve ever seen in my life

LawnFever · 17/01/2021 20:11

Oh, and people who scrape unnecessarily and loudly at yoghurt pots - it’s all gone, stop it!!

Serg · 17/01/2021 20:13

When people write MacDonald’s instead of McDonald’s, they are different words.

Butterflyfluff · 17/01/2021 20:13

Uurgh, the scraping thing made me think of people who stir their cups for ages and clink the sides

OP posts:
Butterflyfluff · 17/01/2021 20:15

@Serg

Blimey - and I thought I got het up over little things - when do you ever see how people write the name of a fast food chain! 😂
OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2021 20:17

People who talk about blowing off steam (usually involving drinking heavily or a spa day)
Give your head a wobble
And yes, starting every sentence with soooooooo

Jessi1972 · 17/01/2021 20:19

People not using coasters.
My pillows not being in the right order.
People that use the sugar spoon from the sugar caddy to stir their tea/coffee and then put it back in the sugar.
As above, but with the coffee spoon.
A complete spoon swap/stir will make me leave the room and get DP to deal with it.
Spiders!!!
My books/dvds being borrowed and not put back in alphabetical/size order (I have approx 2000 books and 200 dvds).
DD/DP always asking me 'who's that?' when the phone/doorbell rings.
My DP following me whenever I pick up a hammer/screwdriver/drill to do a diy task that's been sat there for weeks after him saying 'I'll do that '
Toilet roll put on the holder the wrong way.
My teabag being squeezed when making me a cup of tea.

Sorry, but you did ask Grin

BakedTattie · 17/01/2021 20:21

Pretty much everything just now.

But especially the sound of my husband breathing. I don’t understand how it’s possible to breathe so loud. I’ve never noticed it before we started wfh.

Also, my children not just understanding words/letters/numbers. Homeschooling is not going well.
