Are your letters getting through? Is the Post office working?

I've just been told by one of my Mum's friends that she is not going to send a card because nothing is getting through, especially to London .... Any thoughts?

Are you finding the post is working for you? Just a little bit slower? Or things getting lost??

We definitely found about 20% of our Christmas stuff seemed not to arrive

No, we’re not getting parcels!

Lovethewater · 17/01/2021 23:09

No apparent delays here (Cheshire). Alos sent a parcel by Royal Mail just before the post office closed on Tuesday evening and it was delivered first thing Wednesday morning.

FenEel · 17/01/2021 23:11

We haven’t had any post for more than a week. DS has a weekly comic subscription and we have missed two issues.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 17/01/2021 23:22

Just remembered something. We ordered our Xmas Radio Times to come through the post for Christmas in November thinking it'd be a good idea. It was meant to come 5 days either side of the 8th December.

It arrived 29th December.

evenBetter · 17/01/2021 23:55

The post office and Royal Mail are two separate companies.

thereisonlyoneofme · 18/01/2021 13:19

Wonder if the vaccination letters are going to get through in time for appointments ?

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 18/01/2021 14:38

My postie BiL says they don’t have space for parcels so they are being delivered pretty quickly but letters are definitely a bit behind

StrawberriCream · 18/01/2021 14:41

I'm a postie and as of today we are prioritising NHS letters and tracked items - over 50% of my large sorting / delivery office is isolating, we are trying our hardest, working 16 hour days 6/7 days a week and still got a massive backlog along with people basically saying we've stolen their parcel?! Trust me I don't want your parcel / letter / whatever

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 18/01/2021 14:42

NE London here. We've had delays since before Christmas. Deliveries are only once every 2 or 3 days in my area. We've been told that the Royal Mail, locally at least, are down to 49% of staff in the sorting offices due to Covid. I had a batch of post after Christmas that was post-marked three weeks before.

Hadalifeonce · 18/01/2021 14:58

Huge delays in getting things to addresses in Croydon. Even 'signed for' sent 10days ago not yet arrived. It's a real pain as there is no other way to get important documents for signing to the recipients. No way of even finding out what's going on, as the website just says 'we've got it' !

listsandbudgets · 18/01/2021 15:07

Varied.

DD sent two letters last Monday - one to my mum about 200 miles away and one to a friend about 15 minutes away.

My mum's arrived the next day. Her friends has still not shown up.

In this area we get 1-2 deliveries a week and you never know what will turn up when. DS has a weekly subscription to a comic and last week after a long gap we got 4 at once.

Worse... I'm waiting for a cheque from HMRC - they posted it on 4th January apparently but no sign of it yet :(

safariboot · 18/01/2021 15:11

Birmingham, and expected mail has not arrived. Not one of the list of known problem areas but maybe it's the same issue. It had been worrying me because it's bank and credit card statements - stuff a fraudster would steal.

Swingometer · 18/01/2021 15:15

Problems with Royal Mail seem to be very localised. We tend to receive nothing for a week or two and then get a big bundle of letters/parcels arrive at once which have clearly been sat in a sorting office somewhere. Friend in a village about a mile away has continued to receive post on a usual daily basis throughout all the lockdowns.

Parcels are safer sent via Hermes IMO

HeronLanyon · 18/01/2021 15:16

Friend got the Christmas and new year TV guide 2 days ago. North london. Plus lots of other stuff from second week of December.
Seems a crouch end mussel hill Hornsey backlog is being cleared.
Central london here. Receiving fine. Nothing obvious seems late (although who knows I guess). Things I’m
Sending are getting places normally - to other parts london, The south west. Yorkshire.

HeronLanyon · 18/01/2021 15:17

Mussel hill Grin Muswell.

Anniissa · 18/01/2021 15:22

Very patchy here (SE London). I think we’ve had about 4 postal deliveries since early December. Royal Mail parcel delivery is getting through seemingly pretty regularly but letters etc almost nothing. I understand we’re in an area particularly affected by postal delays due to Covid and so many being ill or self isolating.

mouse70 · 18/01/2021 15:24

I have been extremely impressed and grateful for the way the Royal Mail service has been provided in my area. Hampshire. Post people have remained cheerful and reliable. Yes there may have been a few delays but compared to what they have delivered can only say a big thank you

MasterBeth · 18/01/2021 15:26

Postman Pat = Royal Mail.
Mrs Goggins = Post Office.

HTH

bookworm14 · 18/01/2021 15:27

We are in NW London and have had no post other than parcels since before Christmas. It’s totally unacceptable and covid is no longer a sufficient excuse. People will be missing bills, medical letters, penalty charge notices and god knows what else.
