I've just been told by one of my Mum's friends that she is not going to send a card because nothing is getting through, especially to London .... Any thoughts?

Are you finding the post is working for you? Just a little bit slower? Or things getting lost??

We definitely found about 20% of our Christmas stuff seemed not to arrive

Almost a week to send a first class birthday card within London. Several Christmas cards arrived a week late too.

Gizlotsmum · 17/01/2021 16:50

We are getting post but it is slow. Sent three letters the same day to the same county, one arrived the next day the other 2 still not delivered

farwin · 17/01/2021 16:51

I'm in London and after very little post for the past 3-4 weeks got lots last week, including Christmas cards and presents. Parcels from Royal Mail are also taking 1-3 weeks.

TheFlis12345 · 17/01/2021 16:53

My mum posted a card near Oxford last Wednesday afternoon and it arrived with us in London on Thursday morning!

xTinkerhellx · 17/01/2021 16:53

Huge delays here. But I'm in one of the London postcodes published by Royal Mail saying there were issues.

I seem to get post one day a week (Sunday!) and today received 8 letters and 4 parcels. Had nothing since last Sunday (also received about 6 letters then).

Some of the stuff I got today was dated December. But one was something I know was posted on Thursday, so I think due to staff shortages they are just hitting some areas once a week and stockpiling it all for that day.

TroysMammy · 17/01/2021 16:54

I posted a birthday card to my cousin in SE London 2nd class and he got it the next day.

I posted 2 get well cards from Swansea to a friend, one from my niece and one from me, both 2nd class posted at the same time to an address in Swansea, she's still waiting for mine 15 days later. She's recovered from covid now.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/01/2021 16:55

live in zone 1, admittedly close to a large sorting office, but deliveries are fine, including on Saturdays.
I did read that some localities are affected by high sickness and thus reduced deliveries - Lewisham was one area I think.

goldierocks · 17/01/2021 16:56

I'm just outside London. Our local delivery office was hugely impacted by Covid absences from early December. We got no post at all for 3 and a half weeks.

Post started arriving in drips and drabs last week. I'm getting nothing like the level of post I usually do. Interesting the stuff I am getting was all posted recently (January). No sign yet of post from December, including items bought as presents and posted before 16th December. I'm beginning to think that the 'missing' post will never be delivered in my area.

It's worth keeping a check on the Royal Mail website.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 17/01/2021 16:59

Fine here but did receive a Christmas card last week that was sent on 18 December Grin

XenoBitch · 17/01/2021 17:13

I am not trusting it at all at the moment. I order bits online and about 1 in 3 items never make it to me. Really pissed off as the last item to vanish was a 2nd hand one that is hard to find.

ShiteheadRevisited · 17/01/2021 17:20

Yesterday we (Northamptonshire) received a Christmas card from Devon - posted mid-Dec and also had money in it! Relative has been very worried about where it had gone, but is now relieved (albeit shocked) that we have received it.

Cosyjimjamsforautumn · 17/01/2021 17:28

Our postie told us they had over 40 staff off sick or shielding just in their depot and posties are being asked to do longer shifts to try and cover and keep things moving. If that scenario is replicated across the UK no wonder post has slowed down - theyre probably still digging their way through the annual Xmas post mountain!

TempsPerdu · 17/01/2021 17:30

I’m in London, in one of the areas listed on the Royal Mail website. We’ve had no post at all for the past week - before that was broadly ok, with about another week or so’s gap just before Christmas. Definitely wouldn’t rely on it for anything important at the moment.

namechangetogamechange · 17/01/2021 17:33

@WorraLiberty

My post is ok (London borough) but other people in my local FB group are saying they've got long delays with theirs.

I think if you look at the Royal Mail website, there's area specific info on there.

Just checked and we're on the list. Have been waiting ages for stuff
Lancrelady80 · 17/01/2021 17:44

We're fine here but they were really struggling just before Christmas in the "local" big sorting office (an hour and a half away.)

Management were trying to strong arm posties finishing at 3pm on a Friday to go to the big office to start another shift 8pm - 2am to clear the backlog. Oh, and they were expected to be at work for 7am the next day as usual.

Needless to say, they did not get a positive response.

peak2021 · 17/01/2021 18:07

I am in London and post is getting through, including bills. There are parts of London with issues which can be found on the Royal Mail website.

Persephoned · 17/01/2021 18:46

I’m in north London and had no mail problems here - received a first class card the day after it was sent last week and everything else also arrived as scheduled. Had some issues with things I posted being delayed in December though...and have just been notified that staff off sick with Covid means one of our bins won’t be collected though! Guess we just need to suck it up at the moment!

loveyouradvice · 17/01/2021 19:50

Totally agree re sucking it up ... and having patience for all of them working in such tough circumstances

Was just trying to decide whether to post stuff or not!!

OP posts:
middleager · 17/01/2021 19:55

It was my friend's birthday and she's waiting on several cards still, including mine, which was posted first class 2 weeks ago.

PlanBea · 17/01/2021 21:02

I'm North East and my post has been terrible recently. My MatB1 form for example, has been posted twice and I've still not received it, and it needs to be handed in to work this week! It's been going on for months though because my 12 week scan appointment letter went missing which would have been mid October. I had a follow up letter from the scan at end of October arrive in January - who knows what Christmas post has gone missing! Confused

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 17/01/2021 21:04

We have had 4 pieces of post since the post started again last Monday.

We usually get at least one thing daily - it's very strange! I assume they're finally starting to get to the bottom of the piles and it's all taking a bit more time?

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 17/01/2021 21:05

Meant to say in Lincolshire if it helps.

SpaceRaiders · 17/01/2021 21:15

Postage round here in the lead up to Christmas was pretty appalling. It seemed we’d only get it once a week if that.

I had Christmas presents shipped on the 14th October from my family in Quebec. It arrived in the Uk on the 27th November, should have been delivered by RM. Then nothing, no further updates, no card left, no notification of where it was or how to collect it. January 4th, tracking information says it’s being sent back because it was unclaimed. Hmm Pissed off is an understatement. I just hope my family receives it back in one piece. Otherwise that would be £700 worth of stuff gone!

VestaTilley · 17/01/2021 21:16

Working brilliantly here. I posted Christmas thank you cards second class on Monday - they’d all arrived around the country on Tuesday morning! I was staggered.

We’re in zone 2 south east London.

midgebabe · 17/01/2021 21:17

There are big delays in some areas, it depends on how many staff have covid or need to isolate
