He bought chicken burgers

Lighthearted. Yesterday dh went to do food shop. Two lists - one for supermarket, the other for our local butcher. The butcher list had two items on it: chicken and burgers. I wanted a whole chicken and some beef burgers. He bought chicken burgers - items were listed on separate lines as were the supermarket items but somehow he claims it read chicken burgers. Aibu to despair?😫

Why would you saddle yourself with someone incapable of reading a shopping list?

Do you never make a mistake? Everytime then yes I would agree. But once if you dont normally do it with the rest of the list obtained. I'd be laughing

Yippeeforme · 16/01/2021 11:18

Man, now I really want a chicken burger for lunch.

CoalCraft · 16/01/2021 11:18

Honestly I could see myself making this kind of mistake... Blush

alienspiderbee · 16/01/2021 11:18

Once I told my DP to "put the sheets in the washing machine" - he put them in, shut the door and that was that. Didnt bother to actually wash them

I'm not sure this is that ridiculous. I often ask my OH to stick something in the machine, because I still have other stuff I want to add to the load. If i want him to put the machine on I'd say so.

Arobase · 16/01/2021 11:18

@Hazelnutlatteplease

GrinGrinGrin easy mistake if you dont regularly fo the shopping!
Nonsense. It's not a case of being used to shopping, it's basic literacy.
Minky37 · 16/01/2021 11:19

My DH rang to to ask what ‘one hundred rolls’ were. It was loo rolls.

SoupDragon · 16/01/2021 11:20

@Regularsizedrudy

Ah another thread of hilarious feigned incompetence
Why would you saddle yourself with someone incapable of reading a shopping list?

The list said chicken burgers. He bought chicken burgers. He offered to go back and buy chicken and burgers.

I hope you never ever make a simple mistake.

OwlinaTree · 16/01/2021 11:21

I gave my 6 year-old the list to hold to try to keep him entertained and a pen to cross things off. He announced 'we need 100 rolls' Grin

ColdemortReturns · 16/01/2021 11:23

I made a list which included Sauce P.
Went to supermarket, utterly confused as to what Sauce P was. And I'd written the list myself. Came home without Sauce P.

Readers, it was a Saucepan

@UghNotThisAgain36

I don't find this funny at all though I know its meant to be light-hearted. Why do people put up with such 'selective helplessness'? Why would you saddle yourself with someone incapable of reading a shopping list? Just smacks of infantilising men. Yuck.
there's always one
MrsGrindah · 16/01/2021 11:25

@Wellysock

My DH ignored the first item on a shopping list because he thought it was a header.....
That’s brilliant! I can just imagine your face when he told you that!

chicken. burgers.

Seriously, get over yourself Hmm

MrsGrindah · 16/01/2021 11:27

@Regularsizedrudy Not in the mood to play today eh?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 16/01/2021 11:29

Dear God, we really can't laugh at anything on MN anymore, it's always got to be selective this, feigned that, incompetent whatever.
Sometimes it's just brain fart/human error, a mistake that's amusing to tell and read about.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/01/2021 11:30

Did you not specify types? I would normally say 'whole chicken' or 'chicken breasts' for instance.

But yes, his fault. Send him back out.

Jessbow · 16/01/2021 11:30

Gave up, oh doesn't shop very often, nor cook.
Minced beef? Yes he bought minced beef- a tin of....... Yuck!

SimonJT · 16/01/2021 11:30

On ours recently my partner had written ‘orange 50’ I resisted the urge to buy 50 oranges so I bought 5 oranges. He meant the 50% less sugar orange juice that tropicana make.

Hope you're getting a lot of vitamin C from that lemon you're sucking on Smile

I didn't know this existed until DH was telling me about the bolognaise his mum used to make when he was a kid, which was a tin of mince and a tin of tomato soup combined. That was it, 2 ingredients.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/01/2021 11:36

I think (if I was sending somebody else out with my list) I would have quickly added 'whole' in front of the chicken. I just write 'chicken' meaning breasts. or legs, or a whole chicken because I know what I want but I wouldn't expect him to.

I would expect a phone call to clarify what type of chicken, but chicken burgers would definitely be a surprise!

golddustwomen · 16/01/2021 11:39

You're telling me your DH doesn't phone you 50 times whilst he's doing the super market shop ?! I love my oh so much but fucking hell I could strangle him when he's food shopping on his own.

bluecheesefan · 16/01/2021 11:39

When we first moved into this house, I sent DH out to order and pay for a new bed. He came home with a television. Grin

AttackOfTheFloppyKnob · 16/01/2021 11:39

@UghNotThisAgain36 good God I bet you're fun at parties. Hmm

Op he's done you a favour. Chicken burgers are much tastier than beef burgers 😂😂😂

dodobookends · 16/01/2021 11:42

Mine has a habit of texting me, when I'm at work and he is in the supermarket, with questions such as "Do we need milk?".

MrsSugar · 16/01/2021 11:45

Ahh rooky mistake on ur part there !

I’ve learned from mine as an very specific in list writing now. If I really think it might cause any confusion I also google a pic of what I want and send them. Most times now I get the right things brought home lol Grin
