Is it worth it? I’m using a discount code from a friend.

I love it. Sounds a bit over the top but it completely over hauled our cooking. I liked every recipe apart from one. We had it for 3 months then stopped and now we use the recipes weekly as they give you the recipe cards.

Gotobloodysleep · 13/01/2021 22:08

We've been using it for about 18 months now. It has changed the way we eat. We have such a varied diet. We absolutely love it.

Givemeabreak88 · 13/01/2021 22:09

How much does it cost

BruceAndNosh · 13/01/2021 22:11

Same as both thr above posters. Totally changed how we eat.
Use their recipes for 90% of our meals, just buying the ingredients ourselves

bonfireheart · 13/01/2021 22:12

I tried in a couple of years ago and cancelled cos we used to eat out, go aww friends for dinner etc and didn't always get a chance to cook at home. However, I started again in lockdown and love it. I paused it for two weeks and regretted it lol so nice to have something different everyday in lockdown instead of getting bored rotating my usual dishes. And I priced my recipes this week against my supermarket shop and worked out same price (just under £4 per dish) and I hate hate buying a huge pack of something to only use one teaspoon of it, which Gousto doesn't do.
If you have a discount code then really worth testing how it is for esp in lockdown.

MyNameForToday1980 · 13/01/2021 22:12

We use it from time to time, especially in busy periods with work and childcare.

And we reuse the recipe cards at other times.

Our favourites (not sure if they're always available) are: comforting cottage pie, fish tacos and coconut dhal with aubergine pickle.

Whatthebloodyell · 13/01/2021 22:13

Yes with the discount! I used it for a bit and thought all the recipes were great. Now I often google what I have in the fridge plus ‘gousto’ for a bit of recipe inspiration.

I will definitely go back to using it when I go back to full time work.

ComDummings · 13/01/2021 22:13

I got a trial a few months ago and didn’t cancel after, I love it. Especially in the lockdown, I have such varied dinners and things we would never think of trying. I’m a huge fan!

Honeyroar · 13/01/2021 22:14

Do people get rewarded for introducing friends? I know one girl who is forever posting Gousto links on Facebook or talking about it. I’ve always wondered.

ComDummings · 13/01/2021 22:14

I love that there’s no waste as well.

ComDummings · 13/01/2021 22:15

Yes if you refer someone they get a good discount off their first few boxes and you get a £15 credit on your account.
ItsLoisSangersFault · 13/01/2021 22:20

I like it a lot. We get either 2 or 3 meals per week from them.

Its so good not having to think about food those evenings. It also means that I feel less bad when I serve up the same old dinners the rest of the week. There's just some variety now built into our diets.

Whats especially helpful fyor me is their vegetarian/vegan stuff. Ds is a veggie and its good to have a range of easy, tasty, no-thinking-required veggie meals that everyone likes.

BlowDryRat · 13/01/2021 22:21

I go through periods of having it for a few months - mostly in the colder months when we all want hot food but I don't want to think about meal planning, shopping or cooking. I really like it. We get the boxes for 2 but the portions are huge so it does me, DH and 2 DC (10 & 8).

All I'd say is that they seem to have struggled in the past couple of weeks. All sorts was missing from last week's box: ingredients, recipe cards, market items. This week's box was sent out a day late and also has ingredients and recipe cards missing. They're good at communicating when problems come up though.

Graffitiqueen · 13/01/2021 22:25

Love it. Some of the recipes have become firm favourites. Ii keep the cards and just buy the ingredients myself.

passthemustard · 13/01/2021 22:29

Yep I love gousto too. Totally worth it with the discount. The recipes are really easy to follow too. I get my DC to cook a meal each once a week and they always use a gousto recipe card. We have loads now.

Do you still get the spoon with your first box? I love that spoon.

weaselish · 13/01/2021 22:29

It's honestly great. Changed our approach to cooking in lockdown; use them for lunch some days too. You can use my discount code if you like!

Hi Gousto advertising thread! I hope Mumsnet is getting a decent cut of the profit.

afinethingindeed · 13/01/2021 22:31

We've used it on and off for about two years. I've tried and loved so many new things that I wouldn't have tried otherwise. I'm trying to reduce my meat consumption which I find easier with Gousto so that's a bonus too. I keep all the recipe cards that I like and have reused some of them many times!

bonfireheart · 13/01/2021 22:33

@afinethingindeed their vegetarian recipes are great.

cafedesreves · 13/01/2021 22:37

I love Gousto so much. Started off getting HelloFresh but it's a bit more stodgy we found. We eat so well now. Agree with PP they seem to have had a few issues recently. Our box was late and missing stuff. But they refunded us our full box which we appreciated. There are so many fun choices. I have just selected a vegan "haggis" not rut roast with turnip mash which is under 500 cals and 4/5 a day!

TeddyUrsa · 13/01/2021 22:38

Unused it turns few years until I actually really considered the cost

It's £34.99 for 4 meals for 2 people. So that used to cover 2 adults here from Monday to Thursday

I liked the recipes and steadily stacked up nearly 100 cards! And then I did the maths. It's £8:50 ish per meal. Obviously that's for 2.

So on the nights that we had, for example, a pasta bake I was paying £8.50 for 2 portions of pasta. I can - and now do! - make the exact same dish for £2. And so that led to me adding up more costs and I just had to stop it. I was only using it out of laziness

I appreciate there is no waste but it's not hard to build up a stock cupboard over time and have a steady supply of pasta/onions/cheese etc to hand

So yeah it's great. But do actually do the sums

TeddyUrsa · 13/01/2021 22:39

*I used it for ..

TeddyUrsa · 13/01/2021 22:43

And - as in on a roll here! - I also added up the cost of my last week with them before I stopped it. We had ..

Veg packed pasta bake

Sausage and rocket pizza

Beef and broccoli stir fry

Bang Bang prawns

Cost £34.99

Cost for me to buy myself? Hard to get this exact of course but it was around £20... and that's with prawns, beef and sausages. So a saving of £15 (and more really, as I already had loads of pasta, onions, potatoes, dried noodles etc)

paddler78 · 13/01/2021 22:46

I've tried most meal boxes and Gousto by far best for choice and variety also easy to filter each weeks recipes by things like main meat, cooking time and healthy options. I have kept all the recipe cards which helpfully have all the weights and measures detailed (Hello Fresh only list ingredients) and I mix and match now some weeks if I know we are busy I order for convenience others if I have more time I just choose recipes from the folder and buy ingredients myself.

Gousto customer service also excellent.

ItsLoisSangersFault · 13/01/2021 22:49

Its obvs lots cheaper to buy the ingredients yourself. You're paying for the simplicity, having one less thing to think about yet still enjoying having a bit of variety in your food.

I don't think anyone signs up to gousto thinking it represents value.
