Hi everyone just interested in opinions would you buy for yourself or friend a candle or those diffuser sticks (if each were equally beautiful, scented). Thanks

Candles in winter months, diffusers in the summer.

Mylittlesandwich · 12/01/2021 08:40

No diffusers if they have pets that could come into contact with them.

omg35 · 12/01/2021 08:43

Candles. I hate diffusers

Justcashnosweets · 12/01/2021 08:44

Candles. The diffusers are nice but not great of you have pets, especially wandering felines..

PricklesAndSpikes · 12/01/2021 08:49

Candles, simply because I have never found a diffuser that you can actually smell for longer than about 10 minutes. They are such a disappointment! I have a tiny ensuite and would love to have a nice smell in there. Have tried loads of diffusers and can never smell them. Maybe it's because it's so cold in there...

evilharpy · 12/01/2021 08:50

Candles. I'd prefer an electric diffuser or an oil burner with some oil, but really don't like the diffuser sticks.

WilsonMilson · 12/01/2021 09:03

I love a candle, but they tend to make your walls ‘smokey’ (for want of a better description) if you burn lots of them. Diffusers are ok, but the liquid will take the surface off some tables if you spill them, and most of them don’t smell much after a while.
Tbh I use plug in air fresheners mostly.

MaskingForIt · 12/01/2021 09:22

Neither. I’d clean my house to stop it smelling rather than using artificial scents to cover it up.

Ok.
AnnaMagnani · 12/01/2021 09:28

Neither for a friend unless specifically asked. They are divisive and you don't know if anyone in their house has asthma.

I've thanked many people profusely for them and then quietly taken them straight to the charity shop.

HugeAckmansWife · 12/01/2021 09:40

Most candles are a waste of money and don't scent the home - the only ones I have found that actually do are the White Compnay ones but they are £££. I like diffusers but again, only certain ones actually work.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 12/01/2021 09:45

I’ve never seen seen a thread ike this where someone hasn’t popped up saying just clean/open the windows.

I mean, why?

Why do you feel the need?

If you don’t like scents, just skip and go onto another thread, why feel the need to announce to all and sundry you don’t like scents?

So odd....

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 12/01/2021 09:46

Anyway, to answer the question, archipelago botanics do lovely diffusers, but they are £££s
The lavande one is lush.

Grin there’s always one!

Personally I dislike diffusers, they irritate my nose (or at least the ones my mum gets do). I’d get a candle. Even if someone is asthmatic it doesn’t have to be lit.

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock73 · 12/01/2021 09:55

Essential oil difffuser (electric) i love them! I blend all kinds of essential oils and love the different smells. Plus more health benefits

Pinkdelight3 · 12/01/2021 10:05

YABU. There is a Chat section for exactly this kinda thing.

SlopesOff · 12/01/2021 10:05

Candles (not the Yankee crap though), a good quality candle that last ages.

Reed diffusers are toxic to pets, and not great for the environment. They give me a headache almost immediately I am in the vicinity.

Essential oils and a burner set?

Floris scent the home and don't need leaving alight for ages. Expensive but last a long time.

GrinGrin! I love MN!! It would be a candle for me. Don't like diffusers and have never found one strong enough.

I've just been having a sort out and came across some refill bottles I'd completely forgotten about. They are by wax lyrical.

Put one in the spare room and the scent has wafted all through upstairs and down into the hall. It's bloody lovely. I'm sure it's because it's so cold upstairs.(we don't use central heating)

It's a rose scented one.

@PricklesAndSpikes I hate diffusers, purely for this reason! Waste of money Grin

I've found simply some wax melts (not burning) on their own are a good way to get some smell Smile

RumJerrySailorRum · 12/01/2021 10:33

Oh, and candles would be my preferred choice but a diffuser is ok.

Lavanderrose · 12/01/2021 10:39

Depends what it’s for. I’d use a diffuser in my toilet or bathroom. Candles to create a relaxed atmosphere in my living room. I’m not a fan of scented candles or even diffusers until I started buying the white company stuff, now I’m hooked and have two diffusers arriving soon. Their winter candle at Christmas changed the game.

KarmaStar · 12/01/2021 10:43

Many diffusers have ingredients that are toxic to dogs so check before you buy, there's a long list.
Candles are more acceptable as a gift I think.

jackstini · 12/01/2021 11:08

I use a diffuser in the hallway - Temple Spa - lasts ages
Candles elsewhere and in winter the woodwork ones that crackle
Agree need to check no asthmatics though as they can irritate

PP - I also clean my house but not very keen on it stinking of cleaning products! Grin
