Sainsbury's and Morrisons

I feel sorry for the staff enforcing it, will probably get lots of aggravation, but great news that Sainsburys and Morrisons are banning entry to shoppers without masks unless they are medically exempt - and Sainsburys getting tougher on shopping in groups.

Great news, will be switching where I shop unless the others follow suit.

Thinking about it our reception may be a bit more assertive than the youngsters they put on the doors at Tesco’s. They also follow patients around disinfecting anything they touch. It’s probably a real wake up for them when the staff do a full clean of the toilet after it is used, including mopping the floor.
I think a member of staff in full PPE including an FFP3 mask wiping your trolley handle at the entrance may just reinforce the seriousness of the pandemic.

I have one of the full hoods with attached fan and filters maybe I’ll use that when I do the weekly shop this week. If I wear a plastic gown and gloves do you think they’ll let me in?

I think they'll snap you up as poster girl for "this is how you do it" at the main entrance!

@Haffiana

I think there should be an hour set aside for those who are mask exempt to shop.

This would solve the problem entirely.

Bet the shop staff would be falling over themselves for that shift.....
Rosebel · 14/01/2021 11:27

Yes was thinking that having that hour doesn't help the staff.
I'd probably pay my manager not to put on that shift

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

What about those with disabilities that can't shop alone have you or these supermarkets given any thought to that. Too many bosses
I can't shop at all (not mask-related) due to my disability.

I have a family member who shops for me; if I didn't I would be relying on online shops or phone local shops or voluntary organisations about deliveries- I would have no other option.

People who have disabilities that prevent them from shopping wearing a mask should be given priority access to online supermarket shops or should 'Click and collect' unless able to make alternative arrangements.

Becca19962014 · 17/01/2021 14:17

We have no online deliveries here, including now for meds, or click and collect. Too rural.

The council are no longer helping people on their own to shield - we're expected to make their own arrangements this time as those volunteers who are still available (many aren't) are over stretched with those who have covid. Businesses that helped last time aren't this time, they've closed.

Some of us have zero other options, other than to get our own food and meds and yes, I'm very aware when my condition gets to the point of being impossible I won't be able to have either unless I can afford to pay privately for someone to do it.

I guess it's a case of people exhausting other options before shopping without a mask?

If all other options are not possible then shopping without is the only possibility but it really should be a minority of people with serious conditions doing it.

They need to do what our local supermarket chain did. At "busy"times, they have a bouncer on the door, all their work dried up with pubs closing so they do the supermarket instead.
Added bonus, they keep an eye on the dogs left outside so they don't get nicked.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/01/2021 09:55

I asked mum yesterday about how it works where she is in EU. Apparently entry to the shop is refused unless you can produce medical exempt paper. I said they refused to give it here and she said she isn't surprised because there was an article on all our exemptions, compared to the country she is in, and doctors would be overwhelmed... She was shopping and said in 99% there is no one without a mask in the supermarket. It's quite mind boggling.

TheWernethWife · 18/01/2021 14:43

Ran out of cat food (stupid of me) and just popped down to my local Morrisons. Yes, I'm pleased that they have signs about masks, no mask no entry.

Saw at least four shoppers wearing masks under their noses, so these signs are useless, if shoppers are adjusting masks as soon as they enter the store.

I think this is the main problem:

Why do so many more people in the UK than in some other countries think that they are mask exempt?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/01/2021 16:15

@Lovely1a2b3c I know. It is mind boggling when you compare it. Is UK the most ill country in Europe? It appears so. It's just odd when you look at other countries.
