I follow a pretty avid anti-vax and anti-masker on Instagram for shits and giggles. But her latest post is more obscure than most. She claims she hasn't paid utilities in nine years! She claims she'll upload a video explaining it but I've not seen it yet. I assume since she rents her landlord pays?

I love the cosmetics video - she wants no chemicals, no alcohol and no aluminium in her face and body products. Fair enough, but she has eyelash extensions with toxic glue, acrylic nails which are full of toxins and box dyed hair??

To me it seems like a kind of mental disorder. Like a kind of OC D where they obsessed with living "pure", no medication no alcohol no vaccines etc and it is like they afraid of modern life.

I have met some who won't wear deodorant and believe hair dye high heels and perfumes are made by fallen angels that will send them to help or something crazy. Doesn't make sense to me.

I have come across people who have somehow been getting away with not paying utilities for years. Mainly down to inept landlords/ council/ housing companies not noticing I think. I doubt it happens often but it does happen. However I'm not sure why this woman is shouting about it.

Makes me angry as I know mine would be shut off very quickly if I stopped paying!

I know who you're referring to. She's deluded and dangerous.

My guess is she either has an all inclusive rent or parents help out. There's no way in gods green earth she'd be in any property, rented or otherwise, and use utilities freely without paying for them.

My brother didn't pay for 8 years as an error in billing.

The subsequent bill was a bit eye watering once they got it sorted!

I think the lady concerned is being rather unrealistic. But it's interesting that she mentions that it's illegal to be self-sufficient in utilities. Is that true?

Until not so very long ago, inhabited homes still existed that were not connected to any utilities. They used wood-burning for heating, candles for lighting and had their own well or spring for water. Does anyone remember Hannah Hauxwell?

Would it be possible nowadays still to live off grid legally? Maybe one could generate ones own electricity, from a windmill or solar panels, for example. But what about water? Is it actually illegal nowadays to use well water or collect water from a spring?

I saw that video, apparently they've cured cancer but there's no money in it so they ignore it.

Ah yes, the cancer cure conspiracy - they cured it years ago but are sitting on the cure because big pharma wants more money for research and it'll dry up if they confess. I used to work in cancer research and let me tell you, even if money was the motivation (and not, yknow, wanting to benefit humanity) the absolute scale of money you would make if your scientists/pharma co cured cancer would be astronomical. Every single country on the planet would buy it. It would utterly dwarf any of the grants you received for ongoing research.

Not to mention the acclaim you'd receive as being the curers of cancer, which would be even more lucrative in terms of reputation and future investors and lead to even more cash. Nobody is giving that up so they can carry on banking money for 'research'. And even Big Pharma people have relatives, so I assume they're just happily letting their loved ones die of cancer too.

I don't know who you are talking about specifically but I've had a bit of a instagram search of anti vaxxers recently. And wow! There's also a massive link with people selling alternative medicines, mlms and what appear to be pyramid schemes! So yes they're nuts and seemingly massive scammers!

Yeah it's bollocks and possibly linked to the freeman of the land thing, like your woman in that video last week saying to the copper "I am a woman on the land".

There are blips around but it's not like you can go searching for them. Eg when we were students our meter had been fiddled years previously and we just recycled the same bunch of old 10 pence pieces through it periodically. Landlord showed us how to do it so clearly didn't give a fuck. No idea what happened after eg if he ever sold it etc, stupid really on his part.

Yes, it is possible to live off-grid in terms of energy. Not sure about water. Some people actually generate enough energy, that they can sell electricity back to the grid.

There are always people who do things like this, I can't get worked up about it.
I think as long as you know you are doing the right thing, that's all that matters.
I've had a lifetime of discrimination from people who think my race is like that, all of us, actually.

The point is, by not paying for the electricity but still using it...she's stealing. Just because it's a "victimless" crime, doesn't make it right.

She's be the first to complain if I jumped in her car and used it for my shopping trip this week.

The electricity itself may not "belong" to anyone. But the generation of electricity isn't free, nor is the supply of electricity into properties.
Is she that stupid she genuinely thinks it costs 0p to provide electricity to her home?
Does she not think that the people working at these companies get paid? And that engineers are volunteers, driving round in free vans that run on magic energy that doesn't cost anything

No, it is not true that its 'illegal to supply yourself with gas/electricity etc'..

I've lived without mains gas, water or electric in the past.

Calor gas tanks bought in by me.
Water provided from a bore hole (which of course cost for the bore hole to be sunk, pump fitted, pipework etc etc).
Wind and solar electricity generation, again all that gear costs.

So yeah, not illegal at all but also, not free!
