Posting here as no reply on Coronavirus.

I have Covid, with pretty much every symptom going. I have never felt this unwell before. Things wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for this insufferable cough. It is fucking relentless, day and night. It makes me feel sick, it affects my sleep, and let's just say that Tena Lady will be doing quite well out of me Blush
Please help, as I feel like I can't take much more of this.
What can I do, what can I take?
And is peppermint tea the best thing for nausea (I can't face eating much)?
Thanks in advance.

Chewing some bread? Used to work when I was desperate.

HouseOfRunners · 10/01/2021 06:51

Sorry to hear you’re feeling so poorly.

In my experience ginger tea is better for nausea. Peppermint can make it worse because it aggravates your stomach. Perhaps some ginger, honey and lemon tea?

I sincerely hope you feel better soon.

Bmidreams · 10/01/2021 06:52

How long have you had the cough?

Frenchfancy · 10/01/2021 06:53

For nausea you could try ginger ale. For the cough have you tried honey and lemon?

MagentaDoesNotExist · 10/01/2021 06:54

That sounds awful OP. I am not sure much can help to be honest beyond the normal cough liquid/ soothing throat sweets etc. I had it near the start of the pandemic and coughed in bed for a week day and night but then it went away, I think you just have to wait it out. Sad

Frownette · 10/01/2021 06:54

Oh dear, how long have you had it for? Can you send someone to the pharmacy for OTC medicine? Not sure if 119 can give advice.

Second ginger, honey, lemon.

Hope it clears soon.

Allyo19 · 10/01/2021 06:55

I've had some relief from laying on my front.

In the day time it definitely eases when i am moving more, but I'm so fatigued that i can't keep going long.

PinkyParrot · 10/01/2021 06:56

I've had some relief from laying on my front.

That's funny. Lying prone was mentioned in an interview with a medic as part of the reason more people in intensive care are surviving.

Shieldingending · 10/01/2021 06:56

I'd ring the doctor, I'm on my 2nd lot of antibiotics for a cough caused by a chest infection. Thankfully these are now working. I gave it 3 weeks before I contacted them because I assumed a cough would just clear up (obviously had negative Covid test) but when it didn't I got medical help and they were very supportive

Frownette · 10/01/2021 06:59

There's a video 'breathing advice in case of COVID-19 infection' by a medic

That's why I tried it. I was desperate to get some sleep.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains curcumin, which has a therapeutic effect on sore throats and coughing. It increases mucus production and naturally flushes out bacteria in the respiratory tract. Curcumin is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Boil a cup of water and add one spoonful of turmeric powder. Black pepper, honey, and cinnamon sticks can make the mixture even more effective. Boil the drink for three to four minutes, and drink this mixture a couple of times each day until the symptoms ease. Warm milk with turmeric can also soothe a dry cough.

Source; Internet worth a try IMO

K1ran · 10/01/2021 07:13

It depends on if its a chesty cough or dry cough

At night try rubbing some vicks/tiger balm on your throat. Try to sleep on your side or back also.

If its not very chesty then try drinking turmeric milk before bed. Turmeric is a natural antibiotic.

If its a dry cough then quarter spoon crushed black pepper mixed with half a spoon of honey. Take every night before bed for a week. The pepper will burn so maybe drink some warm water/milk after.
Avoid anything cold to drink. Honey and lemon in warm water during the day will help.
If you wish to try otc then pholcodine linctus is probably the best. Shops own brand on though.
Hope you feel better soon

Terminallysleepdeprived · 10/01/2021 07:16

Compensation do a dry cough medicine with a cough suppressant in it. I have had whooping cough several times (despite vaccine) and it works wonders. Its sugar free and has a blue label.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 10/01/2021 07:16

Stupid autocorrect covornia

Nacreous · 10/01/2021 07:17

I have a permanent asthma cough and sometimes sleep on my front and also sometimes sleep propped up on a pile of pillows which I do find helps.

Codeine is a cough suppressant but it also suppresses breathing so you could consider it but would need to be careful given the breathing issues covid can cause.

Could you bring a flask of something (hot ribena is my preferred option) so if you're awake in the night you don't have to go and get a hot drink?

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 10/01/2021 07:19

My friend has Covid and now a chest infection . Can you check that you don't need anti biotics?

joystir59 · 10/01/2021 07:19

Lots of fluids to make sure you are always well hydrated as being dry will worsen your cough. Lots of hot herbal tea!

VickyBHF · 10/01/2021 07:20

Menthol flavoured chewing gum worked wonders for me for nausea and a cough. Chew it constantly. And as PP said, lie on your tummy.

HarryBlackberry1 · 10/01/2021 07:26

Codeine is meant to help for coughs. Not sure why. It works for me.

Whatawankbucket · 10/01/2021 07:34

Definitely try lying on your front. The prone position relieves pressure from your lungs. Hope you feel better soon!

AmoElCafe · 10/01/2021 07:36

How long have you had the cough? When I had Covid the bastard cough lasted 12 weeks, it was hideous. I was given antibiotics in the end in case of a secondary chest infection which helped.

cultkid · 10/01/2021 07:39

Codeine, Pholcodeine etc but if you're not breathing well I don't know if I would take it

Anti histamines for the nausea, piriton for kids phenergen buccastem etc

They will also help you sleep

You poor thing xx

KnobJockey · 10/01/2021 07:40

If your nausea is bad, try asking your GP for anti sickness meds. My MIL felt a lot better after those, as it meant she could keep her strength up with food a little more

tiredteacher100 · 10/01/2021 07:43

I have found Jakemans cough sweets really good for stopping that sensation if needing to cough, at least for a while. Sounds a bit too simple but they are really good!
