To feel weird in Glastonbury

Wellsbells · 09/01/2021 15:33

I moved about a half hour’s drive from Glastonbury a few years ago but have only visited the town itself once. I hated it. It just felt uncomfortable and a bit sinister, and I couldn’t wait to leave. I’ve not felt that way anywhere else, I mean there are places I like more than others of course but this was just a really strong sense of “I want to get out of here”. Would be interested to know if anyone else has felt this way? Or about anywhere else?

Have you written a book about your experiences ?

Wellsbells · 09/01/2021 15:36

@avocadoinasidecar no I haven’t actually, but I might do one day. Thanks for the suggestion Smile

Somebody already has, it was crap.

prawncocktailpringles · 09/01/2021 15:39

I am interested OP. Although haven't had that experience so looking forward to reading replies.

Wellsbells · 09/01/2021 15:40

@avocadoinasidecar someone has written a book about my experiences? I wish they’d told me

Yes Glastonbury has a very weird vibe. I really disliked it when I visited & I know others who have said the same.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 09/01/2021 15:41

I live near there too, moved to the West Country some time ago. Its a strange place, if you don't have friends there, new age tendencies or are a pagan you probably will hate it. It's a bit of a dump. I have friends and pagan beliefs so I like it but would never ever live there, it's built up, too busy and after a while the new agers drive you nuts, I'd rather live in a pretty village tbh.

DonLewis · 09/01/2021 15:41

Its a thing isn't it? I'm sure I've heard it before that Glastonbury has a weird energy that some people can't abide.

LividLoving · 09/01/2021 15:42

I’m sure there have been threads on this before.

Fwiw I’ve never been but am fascinated to know if I’d get the bad voodoo.

MrsMando · 09/01/2021 15:42

This is very common, I've heard several people say this about Glastonbury.

Something todo with some kind of energy lines?

thefemaleJoshLyman · 09/01/2021 15:42

Walsingham in Norfolk. One of the weirdest places I've ever been to. Very eerie, felt cold even on warm summer day. It is a place of pilgrimage but didn't feel the love.

OrangePlumGrape · 09/01/2021 15:43

I’ve never been to the festival or the town but have read several times on here about people disliking it and feeling strange there so I don’t think you’re alone in feeling that way op.

Wellsbells · 09/01/2021 15:44

Does anyone know if there is a non-woo explanation for this? Have these ‘energy lines’ ever been properly detected in any way?

Only because some me new-age types asked me loudly if I knew where to score drugs when I was on a day-trip with my very staid, religious Aunt to Glastonbury to sight-see, and it’s put me off the place too!

MichelleofzeResistance · 09/01/2021 15:44

It's a very marmite place. Grin

I met the most lovely woman in the carpark there once by the abbey who was waiting to use the parking metre and said to me "I've no idea why we charge for parking... it's not like we have any shops."

This being on a busy street packet with shops where you could buy crystals, cauldrons, capes and broomsticks everywhere, but had to look to find bread and milk.

Darker · 09/01/2021 15:44

I’ve been and liked it. I know someone who lives there and loves it. I knew before I visited that some people get a strange vibe there but I didn’t feel it.

The worst thing was trying to pay for the parking with the app.

MrsMando · 09/01/2021 15:45

I think they're called Ley Lines.

RockPaperScissorLizardSpock · 09/01/2021 15:46

We live not far away from there. My Mum says she felt exactly the same as you whenever we have been there.

Either the type of people who go there piss off the local so find it unwelcoming.

Or its just like the studies people say they find the "energy" strange so others belive it because humans will happily say things they know are wrong to feel included

darksideofthemooncup · 09/01/2021 15:49

I know exactly how you feel! I drove through it once and couldn't wait to get out of it, really oppressive feeling that I only shook off once I was about 5 miles away. I won't be going back in a hurry

CardoMondo · 09/01/2021 15:49

It always feels a bit sinister to me too

littlepeas · 09/01/2021 15:49

There was a similar thread about Bath a while ago. Malvern is another one that comes up. Apparently there is possibly some link to radon?

Hailtomyteeth · 09/01/2021 15:50

Exeter. Every time I've been there I've left thinking that the Devil lives there.

Mrsjayy · 09/01/2021 15:51

We stopped in Glastonbury on our way to a caravan park i really didn't like it either, I am not into woo but it just "feels" weird although there was an air of weed so maybe it was that Grin

Wellsbells · 09/01/2021 15:52

@Hailtomyteeth I lived in Exeter for years! I didn’t get the weird feeling there though
