CF Parking Thread! (with diagram of course)

The house next door to me is for sale. It appears to be over priced but that’s another thread. Saying that, it’s has had an awful lot of viewings. They come in blocks of about 6 viewings every other day or so.

Anyway, I digress. The house for sale has a large driveway which fits 3 cars easily (green area on the diagram)
I have a double drive, one behind the other, and park in the red spot. The yellow spot is empty. The black arrow where they walk across.

Every single time there are viewings, at least one car parks on my drive and then slowly saunters across the front of my house, right across the window, where they have a nosey in!

I ignored it the first time but now every single viewing slot, somebody parks there. Yesterday I was in the kitchen at the back of the house. Took the bin out, opened the gate and came face to face with two women! I asked what they were doing and she said “just looking at the neighbours house!” I noticed her car on my drive and asked her to move it. She just reversed backwards on to the road, then walked straight across my lawn.

It’s happened 4 times now. As soon as I see viewings going on I’m going to reverse my car into the second space. It’s not like they can mistake which house with is. There is a full branded EA car on the drive (leaving 2 easily accessible spaces) and a for sale board.

Sorry, no advice needed, just needed a moan! 🤣😂

I'd also park in the yellow spot.

SnoozyLou · 09/01/2021 18:42

Have a word with the neighbour and/or ring the agents.

RolandSchitt · 09/01/2021 18:50

I think that's a very good point about the garden - they may not realise it isn't part of the house for sale! Hopefully the EA corrects anything like that, but I'd be having a look at the advert, and parking my car in the yellow spot for now.

RoseMartha · 09/01/2021 18:52

I would complain to the EA

Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails · 09/01/2021 19:14

It just seems an odd mistake for so many people to make unless there’s something in the particulars giving the impression it’s part of the property for sale.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/01/2021 19:16

Is there any possibility at all that people have the impression that your front garden belongs to the house which is for sale

Surely not - unless the EA's included the whole of OP's front garden in the pics?
Anyway, how could they miss that ruddy great house-shaped thing next to it?

LaurieFairyCake · 09/01/2021 19:20

Yeah you have a front garden but next door don't?

That's weird, bet they think your lawn is both of yours

CruCru · 09/01/2021 19:28

It’s possible they think the lawn is “communal green space” if there’s no fence. Yes, put the wheelie bin there.

SuitedandBooted · 09/01/2021 19:40

They think the side area and lawn belong to the property they're viewing.

It doesn't really seem likely that person after person would be an entitled "I park where I want" knobhead.

Have a strong word with the estate agent straightaway, and check the house details. Tell the agent you're going to park your car to stop them, and block the walk around with a bin and not very welcoming notice if it continues.

If somebody buys it without due diligence, this could turn into a tricky situation for all concerned!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/01/2021 19:45

TBF something not dissimilar happened when my late, exMIL's house was sold. She had a long drive at the side but the neighbours had no parking at all - so the EAs "conveniently" included her drive in the photos

My ex didn't even realise what they'd done until he visited one day and found a car parked on it ...

Svalberg · 09/01/2021 19:46

Hosepipe, or boiling oil.

An0n0n0n · 09/01/2021 19:50

You're right.

But talk to the EA because one of the Muppets might actually buy the house and you may end up with an ongoing issue. Set the expectation now.

AndAPartridgeInABearTree · 09/01/2021 19:50

Phone the EA in the first instance. Also park on the yellow bit. And put large plant pots or similar as a psychological barrier to stop people walking that way.

From your aerial photo it genuinely looks crazy anyone would think it never mind 4. So it makes me think Rightmove is deceptive.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 09/01/2021 20:07

Thanks all, I’m going to look at the ad now and see if it makes out the whole frontage is for sale.

I never thought the EA may have told them too. My property is rented so nothing I can do and the one for sale is empty.

If I look out my front window the porch obscures the view of next doors drive so it could be that there are already cars parked on there. It is a permit only area on the road so that could also be why.

I just find it so cheeky!

AliceinBunniland · 09/01/2021 20:11

It is cheeky OP

Park near the end of your drive to drop them parking on it and say something if you need to

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 09/01/2021 20:18

Nothing on the listing screams anything untoward. My driveway isn’t in the picture and it just states access to a lawned front area.

I must admit, yesterday when the woman was on my drive, after she went inside I did get my toddler riled up and shouty 🤣

OP posts:
BewareTheBeardedDragon · 09/01/2021 20:21

I may well be very thick but I'm confused as to which house is yours, which is theirs and whose lawn is whose. Could you update you diagram OP, pretty please 🥺 Grin

sbhydrogen · 09/01/2021 20:27

Who walks across a lawn anyway? Stick to the pavement!

Park in the yellow spot, maybe put a good old fashioned cone on your drive (or a wheelie bin) and stare awkwardly at any people who cross the lawn. Also, complain to the EA. Good luck.

SnoozyLou · 09/01/2021 20:28

My property is rented so nothing I can do and the one for sale is empty.

It doesn't matter that you're a tenant. You have legal possession of the property and they are committing a trespass against you.

Godimabitch · 09/01/2021 20:29

Go tell the neighbours. It's in their best interest fo keep you sweet. No ones going to buy a house if the neighbour is shouting about boundaries, playing loud music, letting their kid run round the garden screaming etc

ElfIsAnAss · 09/01/2021 20:37

it just states access to a lawned front area.

Um....that'll be YOUR lawned area surely, seeing as there's no lawn next door??

SnoozyLou · 09/01/2021 20:42

If the property is empty, it may be a mix up (probably is), or it may be that the estate agent is being deliberately vague to get more interest.

We rent. If someone parked on our drive, it would only happen once. You pay rent for that - why should someone else benefit? I'd phone them first thing in the morning. I'm pretty sure your landlord wouldn't be happy with what they're doing either, so I wouldn't worry about that.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 09/01/2021 20:44

I'd take a leaf out of Oslo's book.

Create a barrier to walking over your frontage.

Create a barrier to sale to these cheeky feckers.

This is fucking bonkers. I just don't understand why anyone would do this let alone several people. Could ea be telling them to do it? Or do they mistakenly think it's the drive of the house theyre looking at?

ktp100 · 09/01/2021 21:04

Yeah, it sounds like they've advised viewers to park there so as to keep their driveway free so that it looks better for viewings.

I'd check details on RM, request full details from EA and then maybe put a call in specifically to ask where to park when viewing and see what they say.

It's so weird that people keep looking in your house! Would drive me potty.
